- This customer loves his GMC Canyon with diesel engine 4x4 and Denali package. He wanted to have a cargo area that had storage to keep the area tidy as well as some comforts. We were able to wire up a Goal Zero battery which powered the water pump, roof fan vent, and water pump!

ABOUT ME I grew up in a cabinet shop and was a born to be woodworker. In the past few years when work slowed in the custom cabinet industry I converted a few friends Vans and SUV's so they had more storage for adventuring, work, or just the weekend beach getaway. Before I knew it I had my own business making people's ideas come to life. I design and build all kinds of custom wood work and vehicles here at my shop in Huntington Beach, California! Please email me solidwoodworx@gmail.com for more information. - Jak na to + styl
I am the owner and have been getting a lot of use out of the truck these past couple months. I really love and Brian did an amazing job on it. A couple replies to the comments. The sink just drains out the bed behind the rear wheel. I am finding I don’t use the sink very much at all. Mainly just to fill water bottles. If I need to use it where I can’t just let it drain onto the ground I can put a bucket or basin underneath the vehicle to catch it. Totally worked out with all the sizing of things. This is a mid height Leer top on it and when I am sitting on the bed with a 3 inch camping pad on it my head use clears the ceiling and it is quite comfy. I have sat out some rainstorms sitting inside with the he tailgate close but the window open and it is very cozy. The goal zero and wiring works like a charm. My Goal Zero is always charged when I need it and the electrics hardly draw from it. I am mostly doing weekend or two to three day trips so it is plenty. No need for solar at all. While the MaxAir fan on the roof is cool I don’t use it much so would probably skip it if I did this again. Only other thing is that I can’t access the drawer from inside the truck so just need to keep that in mind. I live in Southern California so it hasn’t really been a problem. Sitting on the tailgate and prepping dinner on the drawer is very comfortable and it is a great work surface. The work Brian did was fantastic and his build ideas based on my wishlist turned out great. Very happy with it!
Thanks for the update. I have the same truck and build. If I could ask, about how much was the total build minus the max air fan? How long did it take to complete?
A mid height top. Can you pull into a standard garage with that? Thanks.
Yes, it easily clears my standard garage door. The truck is a bit long but it will also fit in lengthwise too. Before I bought the truck I did a test drive and brought it home to make sure it would fit.
Good to hear This gentleman definitely has skills. Looks very well built. Enjoy.
Bullshit. If your the owner of this truck then do a video on the setup? What gear you carry etc.
This is one of the best builds I've seen since the vehicle camping renaissance began. It's simple, sleek and full of utility. Really well done, man.
I agree. True talent! Wish he was closer to the midwest. Would have my business for sure!
AS ALWAYS, YOUR BUILDS ARE VERY WELL THOUGHT OUT AND VERY CUSTOMER SPECIFIC ! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK.
Killin it man, love the thoughtfulness of your builds. I'm working on building out my Chevy Astro and definitely taking notes from you.
Another great build!! I am always amazed with what you come up with and the quality of your work!
That's an awesome build! I dig the slide out. Perfect idea for a galley.
You do such nice work - functional, simple and well crafted. Thanks for sharing! I keep seeing ideas for my own ongoing home build.

wow. awesome job. This is the set up I want in the back of my frontier. I wish I had half your woodworking skills. Keep up the awesome vids.
I love your videos! I just got a Canyon and I cant wait to build my set up. I want to do something similar but with benches on both sides instead of the counter, and the middle piece will be for a bed and table. Itll be great to stay warm in between ski touring. Thank you for the inspiration!
Nice build... simple and good utilization of available space.
Thks for posting, great info and I love your set up. Definitely a future project along with a titanium stove for the cooler nights.
What a build bro. That is some awesome work you do.
I really like the way you have it wired to the solar generator. Finally someone has a functional way to get it charged from the vehicle. Thanks,
Thanks for sharing this build!
Totally rocks this build !
Mate, I saw your first ever video - CRAZY to see you now have over 35k subs!!! Congratulations mate and greetings from Australia!
We have an 8’ truck bed, and I really like this general design for couples truck camping. Seems simple enough to do ourselves.

Wow that’s awesome, been looking for ideas for in the bed of my 2001 Silverado!! I like this set up, I subscribed I’ll be watching more appreciate you sharing
I love this design and technique
Great work dude.
I hope that Toyota behind the truck is another customer. I turned my Toyota Matrix into a camper car for a road trip a few years ago with minimal modifications, it would be cool to see what someone would do to a compact car with actual knowledge and more solid fixtures. Anyhow, cool build as always, I really dig the complex work you do while it aesthetically looking so simple.
Love it👍thanks for sharing
Another nicely done build. :)
Nice setup great work
Nice work!
Very clean work
this is great work ! amazing job !
Nice work!!
Tidy build. Big ups!
Very sweet! I drive a colorado with the same bed length and do a not so nice somewhat version of this. One thing after using mine for a few years that id like to change is the windows on the topper from the slider like that to the wing windows that lift and also slide, then you can access your stuff from outside fairly easy and also totally open up the window on a nice day and have it totally opened up by the sink and table area. I don't have the sink, but i carry a 5 gallon jerry can with the faucet. This one definitely hits real close to home and I've said it before, man if you weren't 2000 miles away id definitely hit ya up to finish mine out!
Do you have the five foot bed or the six foot bed? I want to set up my bed for camping but I only got a 5 ft
@@samuelyates4922 Im running a 6ft bed, I figured Id never need a crew cab 4 door, since id never be camping with a "crew" anyway. Extended cab is perfectly fine for my needs with it's behind the seat storage on the mini seats, it at least lets me have the 6ft bed.
heck yeah! looks great man
Great work bro
Now that’s dope AF
This is awesome, super inspired
Chris pontias killin it
Nice storage r excellent!
super clean
Dam solid work got me thinking.
Great one.
nice and minimalistic. well done. I would have asked for the secondary platform to be on hinges, in sections. Remove the bedding, flip the "Nightstand" platform over, done. Same with the lower portion. It would give them a place to be stored, and ease of use. I sold my Canyon, but had I kept it, I would have considered such a design.
Or you just slide it in and store it on the floor. Put a couple of low profile finger holds or metal loops on the longer section and then it can be raised up while you are positioned on the upper section. It seems like it would be pretty easy to do, after a little trial and error practicing. Small section is a piece of cake.
Such a solid work, love your videos. What a pity that you are not in Europe ;) I am planning to prepare hilux for overlanding and would love to work with you on that!
Excellent job...
That is so cool!
GREAT WORK! And I'm glad you're in Cali 😂 I WILL be emailing you after Thanksgiving!
Whats your number i want something like this done for my Toyota tacoma trd pro
Need this for my long bed Tacoma. Take my money!
Friggin nice dude!!
Great build. Minimalist, just like I like it
Great build, simple design, and clean. If this were my build, I would have added a backboard to the bed (along the truck bed) for a bench back. Thanks for the video.
Wanted to but he wanted it removable
@@SolidWoodWorx Understand completely. Great videos by the way!
@@danstankiewicz8222 I find that the back isn't a problem and I just have a pillow there.
Would love to do this with my Ranger!
Solid worx!
Incredibly clean build!!
Very nice only thing I would change is have the bed extension on hinges where you could just fold it over
This is the coolest build I have ever seen I would love to do this where are you guys located I want this same exact build for my pickup
A new fan from Manila Phil.
Awesome Carpentry!!!
Well done
I want this for my 1995 Nissan hardbody.....so sick!
Eres el mejor saludos desde Puerto Rico
Froggy fresh
Could you do this in a suburban? ...maybe a lip on the window side of the cabinet too...Ive broken a shell window in the past...hmm Very nice clean build. And the electronics are well thought out :-)
I just did this exact same build wow
Looks mint
Definitely want this set up but reversed cause I’ll have a windoor on the driver’s side and it would be cool to do dishes/make coffee from the outside. I assume there’s a grey water tank somewhere?
