You told us that the mill is actually a Grizzly. Is it the CNC the system that Grizzly supplies with their new CNC Mills or is it a manual mill with a CNC upgrade. It looks like a fresh paint job too. I like it. Plus, I noticed the HMI(Human Machine Interface) It appears that the previous owner put a lot of thought into it. I've always wanted a small mill. Congrats.
That is an awesome shop upgrade! Congratulations for sure. I hope to see the motor upgrades (if you post them). The possibilities with that machine must be endless now. Custom hardware etc, list goes on!
Hey, when youre tapping your part down onto your parallels, if you use a deadblow instead it will work better. Using other hammers causes a shockwave that runs down the column of the machine, hits the floor and travels right and back up in the opposite direction, usually it actually lifts the part a bit. Deadblow sends the force in one direction only, down. Hope that helps!
Very cool Ryan. We do all the engraving on the stuff I make with a CNC mill... You can etch anodizing with a fairly cheap laser but it turns it white vs alum color. I can already tell, you are going to love having that mill.
Oh man am I jealous! Been looking into some of the Grizzly mini mills a lot lately. What a cool thing to have. Love your videos! Thanks for the great content as always
Great machine, I also own a shapeoko2. But just scored an x2 mill CNC converted. I'm just starting to learn. I have subbed and will be looking at your videos.
Center drills work really good for Engraving and they come in a lot of different sizes. Get high speed steel though. carbide chips to easy, unless you got a spindle capable of 5000 RPM or more
I just subscribed to your channel when I seen your video about the mill. I just bought the same Mill used. It's manual though. Interested in converting it to a CNC know nothing about Milling.
It would be great if you did a short machine "tour". I would really like to know about the basic mill, cnc upgrade , what tooling you can run and what you consider the overall capabilities to be.
Hey man, not sure if you're reading this but I can show you 3 easy ways (well... IMO easier than referencing on a 2mm hole..) to reference your part when you flip it. If you want I can email you some drawings or something?
its all about chip evacuation, re cutting chips can stick to your cutter, aluminum is very gummy. also really helps with surface finish. you really can't have enough, they actually recommend more than i'm using, especially with aluminum.
probably, but your still looking at 10 grand Canadian(with all the accessories) for a 440 tormach which is about the same size. maybe some day i'll be able to afford something better but this is great for now.
I’m a CNC machinist and i still enjoy watching CNC machining videos lol
Yes! Thrilled you're keeping it on this channel! I'm excited to learn along with you! Keep the great vids coming
thanks man!!
That’s a heck of a shop upgrade! Glad you figured out a solution.
That’s a great CNC Ryan! Seems like you’ve got it pretty much dialed in and now having fun with it. Congratulations!
Very nice work. It must be a real satisfaction to see whats been made by the maschine.

Good job, a mate of mine owns a cnc shop and I am amazed at some of the engraving work he can do.
Can't wait to see you mill the flip stop.

for sure, so much to do!
Very cool and this is awesome that you will no have complete control over your flip stops. Looking forward to seeing the upgrade

Awesome! You should make a branding iron to burn into your projects 👌🏼👌🏼
looking forward to seeing more about your milling machine!

yeah, i really have been enjoying learning the about cnc milling. interesting stuff.

thanks man!
cool. sharp short vid, interesting.
Thanks for the inspiration...
Keep on trucking (from France) !
great video, keep up the projects. Canuck in California
Nice work!!!perfect...

I used to run a CNN pin mill with a gantry every day. I estimated it cost about $500k. It had 5 axes and milled one crankshaft at a time. Cool.
You could machine the desk lamp that I made last week. All CAD files are in the Instructable.
i'll have to check that out:)

I’m a wee bit jelly. Looks like a great setup. Just curious - did you have any machining experience before buying this mill?
yes, we have a lathe and mill at work but i wasn't familiar with cnc milling at all.
the key chains look great.... I have the same mill
Can you tell what mill it is?
Nicely done! 👍👊
thanks!

Great vid. Keep 'me comin!
+The Hamlin Woodshop thanks!
Super cool!
The wave of the future brother.
(Just, please don't let this become the only thing you shoot video on.)
for sure, it's taking a lot of my time right now but I'm sure the novelty will wear off;)
Looks like it's time for a keychain giveaway!
Sooo many fun toys (tools), sooo little time (and $).
I know!!
So cool

hmm maybe i can arrange that;)
Cool.
Are you running mach3 ?
It's a steep learning curve and I really hope I get it soon.
Nice job
Interesting stuff, Ryan!
Cool to see you trying new things. Have you checked out John Saunder's channel NYCCNC?
i probably logged 50 hours of john in past three weeks lol :)
Curious, do you have a fire suppressant system for the CNC machine? Or just a fire extinguisher nearby? Please do so if you have not already.
What kind of tooling do you use for the quick change system? Is it a drawbar with a spring+collect like the tormach tts ?
How did you get the video game controller to control the machine?
Muy chulo el CNC
ooo fancy, its always nice seeing a good deal. im just like yea..... shut up and take my money :D
You’ve been busy. Sorry if this is a daft question but can it do lettering on wood 🤔
Thanks for sharing 👍😄
+Gary Thomson Joinery it can but sense the ways and ball screws are greased, you would have to protect them from the saw dust some how.
How did the enclosure help with the sound?
Any info on that new motor?
A laser can be the next tool! You can do a lot more than just engrave stuff with a laser.
If you ever want to send these out. Let me know probably do these complete in about 90 seconds or less
We are interested alot
Are your stops currently for sale, or are we waiting on a new batch from this machine?
I should have a batch back from anodizing this week, hopefully;)
Hey man, not sure if you're reading this but I can show you 3 easy ways (well... IMO easier than referencing on a 2mm hole..) to reference your part when you flip it. If you want I can email you some drawings or something?
Sure, that would be great. shopbuilt.org@gmail.com
What was with the drill on the top?
for fast tool change.
thats used to tighten and loosen the tool holder. most people use a ratchet or air impact gun, but electric impact is just as good
Was that an Xbox controller?
yup:)
Yeah I want a how to for that one also. Lol!
@@Shopbuilt this must be one of few the bright sides of Windows 10.
You need that much coolaint for aluminum?
its all about chip evacuation, re cutting chips can stick to your cutter, aluminum is very gummy. also really helps with surface finish. you really can't have enough, they actually recommend more than i'm using, especially with aluminum.
does it use an Xbox 360 controller?
Is there a drill stuck on the drawbar?
yeah, I just just it to tighten and loosen the drawbar
It look janky and cool at the same time :)
Lets take a look at what Im talking aboot
So after you get done with all the upgrades to the DIY mill, are you going to wonder why you didn't buy a complete CNC mill straight away?
A lot of mini mill owners eventually upgrade to real machining centers.
probably, but your still looking at 10 grand Canadian(with all the accessories) for a 440 tormach which is about the same size. maybe some day i'll be able to afford something better but this is great for now.
Who you be interested is doing a project for me, please reply
Could not care less.
I have been looking for a mill this size for awhile. Did you find it on a website ort locally? If website could you share the name? Thanks!
its a G0704 made buy grizzly than converted to CNC. Its a very popular bench top mill because of the price point.
