Elevator and escalator installers and repairers install, maintain, and fix elevators, escalators, moving walkways, and other lifts.
Elevator and escalator installers and repairers also called an elevator and escalator constructors or mechanics, assemble, install, maintain, and replace elevators, escalators, chairlifts, moving walkways, and similar equipment.
Elevator and escalator installers and repairers usually specialize in the installation, maintenance, or repair work. Maintenance and repair workers generally need to know more about electronics, hydraulics, and electricity than do installers. Most elevators and similar mechanisms have computerized control systems, requiring maintenance and repair workers to do complex troubleshooting.
After an elevator, escalator, or other equipment is installed, workers must regularly maintain and repair it. Maintenance includes oiling and greasing moving parts, replacing worn parts, and adjusting equipment for optimal performance. Workers also troubleshoot and may be called for emergency repair.
A service crew usually handles major repairs-for example, replacing cables, doors and other components, or machine bearings. Service crews may need to use cutting torches or rigging equipment and also may need to do major modernization and alteration, such as replacing electric motors, hydraulic pumps, and control panels.
Become an elevator mechanic in 2021? Elevator mechanics are self-explanatory. Basically, they are the ones who are experts when it comes to installing, repairing, improving, or maintaining elevators. They usually work in tight spaces, so anyone who has claustrophobia won't be able to enjoy this job.

What is the average salary of an elevator mechanic?
What is the job market like for elevator mechanics? Would it be hard for you to get a job?
Would this occupation be compatible with your personality and interests?
What kind of education do you need to become an elevator mechanic?
What will happen to elevator mechanics ten years from now?
    Let's get started.

My dad was an elevator constructor for almost 40 years. He did a lot of different things. He would build elevators and repair them. Most of the time he would repair them. He not only did elevators, he also worked on dumb waiters and wheelchair lifts. He retired from working on elevators five years ago and now he works as an elevator inspector

You forgot to mention that for the trades the quoted government stats averages across apprentices, journeymen, and master tradesmen. So the average you reported is actually low by about $20,000 for a fully licensed mechanic. I know that in Boston (IUEC Local 4) the base pay is over $62/HR and increases by contract at 3% per year.

There were 25k elevator tradesmen in1976, don't let the numbers fool you. The companies keep back stabbers, suck ups, yes men, and cleaners. Plan on working around nine months out of the year if you work construction and plan on traveling. The pay scale and benefits are fantastic, don't depend on the union to back you.... read your standard agreement with the companies. Some locals will back you but not many. 1.7 per overtime as a service mechanic and 2.0 as a construction mechanic. There are many things to learn, six year apprenticeship, four hrs. a week then you are eligible for the mechanic's test. Elevator men gossip more than old women. I am now retired and do not miss the trade one bit, plan on your knees and back being pretty much worthless when you retire.

Depends on the department. Most of the time it’s one mechanic and one helper. Service mechanics work by themselves more often. If you’re on a big construction or mod job there may 30 40 or 50 men on the job. Again, it’s normally 1:1 mechanic to helper. Sometimes 2:1.
