    One of my favorite tiny homes ! As soon as I saw the original video, I started designing my home, based on your design, tweaking it a bit for my own personal preferences. Mine will have a bath laundry combo space under the loft. same desk space with TV/ computer monitor on wall above. A couch across from desk. Kitchen at end with sliding glass doors or outward opening french doors, on wall in between kitchen and desk.

      @@Renelephant That is actually the 2nd video about Brett's tiny home that you're speaking of. ( towing it to this property ) The original video before it, is even better, where Brett explained how he got a lot of the materials & items he used for this awesome home. Many details are discussed in the very first video I'm talking about. It's a must-see. The BEST designed tiny home of them all, in my opinion. The roof design that allows far more head room and air movement, and allows for that awesome staircase ( instead of those terrible ladders ), the bathroom, kitchen, desk & fold down table both hiding the fender wells to the wheels.....I WILL be building one exactly like it within the next 7 to 10 years........perhaps sooner. And this design is actually one of the cheaper designs too........yet it blows the rest out of the water for practicality and open-air space!!!

    I so love Brett's philosophy of having a few things that really serve one's few vital needs well, rather than a bunch of things that serve them in mediocre fashion or not at all. I think it is from this that his sense of freedom is derived. It's how he keeps his expenses down, and that frees up so many resources, mental and financial, that would normally go to "chasing money," as he put it in a previous video. These follow-up videos are a terrific idea.
    One question: How goes the build on your tiny house project?

Can't wait untill it's finally ready and hoping he'll share his project with us too :) Unless he changed plans and not building it anymore since he broke up with his gf? If not, some update on the progress would so great but it might be also that he's just waiting untill it's fully shiny spotless & ready to then reveal its magnificence in all it's glory! :)

      i think the couch works best where the front door is located,and a double door on the side(where the couch is) to a large outside living space w a closed in deckspace.i saw one video where the couch could be used for an eating area, and was glass all around the couch which really opened up the space nicely.i love how they are all slightly unique..

    Beautiful spot and space! From 1989 to 1993, a solid 4 years, I lived in a 29' travel trailer full time while building a house. No one thought I was anything special. I lived there with my (ex) husband and our 3 cats. Simple living was fabulous and challenging. We had a generator, propane and used very little water.

    The stairs and extra headroom in the loft, the windows that give airflow there and the room for a guest bed, all make this one of the best tiny houses to look at, both inside and out. Living alone probably helps to make it work, too.

  • @angelofheavens
    @angelofheavens Před 8 lety +62

    I'm not one for writing big youtube comments or whatever, and I don't particularly share my feelings, but lately I've been feeling very low (since i had to go back to my old job cleaning, ((I like my first job and don't want to leave but they don't have enough hours))). I think a big part of my problem is money, lack of motivation and just... feeling the need to do /something/ other than what I seemto be doing; waiting.
    And I just finished uni but to top it off I actually failed my last semester so have to do a resit which really... helped... with my mood.
    But, after watching these tiny houses and seeing how much you can be affected (in a good way) of living more in rural places, or on the edge of cities, and less bills of course hah, I think I would really love to do this someday.

      @DeclanBurger Před 8 lety +3

      You need to live your life for sure, If you hate what you're doing try find something new if not, save up for a project like this so you don't spend the next 50 years working in a place you don't like, with low living costs there is no need for constant work (unless you want to travel, toys, etc) I am seriously considering making my own house like this some day soon back at home in NZ i would love to, not sure what my parents would say but what a smart idea and why not

    I have to say, I've watched hundreds of tinyhouse videos and this design remains one of my 5 or so favorites. The best features, to me, are the staircase design; the kitchen ceiling height and the roof shape, both giving more height to the loft; the size of the loft (ie, how far it extends over the kitchen). I'd definitely add a bathroom door, but other than that, this is a great design. Appreciate the update. I'd also find it difficult to do without some kind of space for projects; I don't want to have to unfold & fold up the house everytime I want to do something. I saw a great video about a shipping container house that was built on top of a framed first floor because there was an existing foundation, & they added an enormous second-floor deck. The square footage was around 320 sf, and the deck added a lot of living space. To me that would be ideal. The first floor could be a workshop or workout space or whatever; I'd want to make the ceiling a little higher than standard. I'm pretty sure it was Nelson Tiny Homes.

    So glad he mentioned the garage! Nobody ever mentions that part of tiny house living. If you live in a cold winter climate - or even a heavy rainy one - the garage is huge for quality of life. Who wants to dig their car out of snow every day? I’ve been there - way back in my college studio apartment days. I’ll never forget having the flu in a blizzard and being snowed in until I was well enough to dig my car out of 6 feet of snow to go to the market, use the phone (phones were down/before cell phones) and call my family to let them know I was alive! Today - no cell phone coverage is simply not an option. Would he climb that hill to get ambulance? I do like his design and the gorgeous setting of the home.

    My tiny house has a 12' counter... my craft workshop... as I remember from this video. I am pleased that I did that, makes it very functional for a quilter. I needed a freezer, and my table is a flip out on top of it... 2x3 plus 2x3 makes a lovely 3x4 table when I need it. When not, it is a 2x3 ironing board. I love my tiny house.

    Can't believe it's been 2yrs. With the wee potbelly stove it may need a metal shield that's about one inch away from the wall. An airflow behind helps to keep the wall cool. So pleased he didn't get told to leave his wee whenua.

    Love this tiny home. One of the nicest loft spaces - as a claustrophobic I can't usually get my head around the idea of a roof so close to me, I would not be able to fall asleep. So neat and tidy this is guilting me to go fix my untidy kitchen.

    How in the world did I miss THIS video??? ( until now ) I saw both of the earlier videos a couple years ago, and was blown away by Brett's awesome design. I've looked at dozens upon dozens of other designs, and this one blows the rest away, in my opinion. This is the ONLY design that makes total sense to me, when it comes to actually building & living in my own tiny home. I don't "think" I'm going to build one exactly like it........I KNOW I am!!! Thanks again......especially to you Brett!!! Greetings from central Florida.

    even with all the cool new ones we can see on yt, i still love this tiny house. it was the first physical example of a more contemporary design, that we'd seen, which was really cool cos we're not cottage, gable roof pitch, types. yep, kiwi way is definitely for space & lifestyle. love :-)
