It is always beautiful to hear from Denny, but, he did seem annoyed but played along and did the best he could.
I often wonder if Denny wanted to move on and put the Mamas and the Papas behind him after the group officially disbanded.
I don't think so....he gladly worked on a play with John in '75, had Cass & Michelle sing backups on his 1974 album, went on the road as the New Mamas and Papas from 1982-1993, and designed his stage play (1996-2006) around the band's story. He'd be the first to tell you that his 1971 solo album was "just a drunken party with the tapes rolling", so I think he never saw his solo career as a serious thing. He embraced the mamas and the papas. He did move on, in a way, with a number of movies and voiceover work, both which he enjoyed.
Yeah, we had a chance to learn so much about the M&P and it turns into a Beatles fest. Props to Denny for keeping everything straight. Me? I would have grabbed the interviewer around the neck and throttled her.
