With her personality she would have been a huge hit today, especially on podcasts
She was so full of life. Engaging. Mega talent.
She was faking.
❤
She died only 3 weeks later 😔
She was such a beautiful person. I wish her life would have been better and longer. Beautiful voice. She made the Mamas and Papas with her personality and voice
Another great talent who left us way too soon.
Her voice was the hi- light of the Mama s and Papa's songs. So lovely!
She had a huge personality & an amazing voice.
❤
Mama Cass and Karen Carpenter had the most beautiful voices I've ever heard. Singing voices, I mean. But unlike with Karen, Cass had massive power in her voice.
She had not only a tremendous voice and talent but had a great personality and just seemed warm and friendly. RIP Mama Cass
You mean like the way she trashed the three bachelors while she looking like a cow cashing in about 325 lbs. you hippies from the 60s are still delusional
She died because of that excessive body fat....
@@RjBenjamin353 That was an unintelligent childish comment.
@@BadRonald1 shhhhh!
@@BadRonald1 I thought it was hysterical.
She looked fabulous here!
She did. But unfortunately she was on another diet binge and had dropped a massive amount of weight through starvation. All the yo yo dieting through the years was too much strain on her heart.
Sad she died not long after. God, what a voice and energy she had. I love her
Cass had a beautiful voice and so sad she died in 1974 and so young !
Well, I wonder why....
@@princeedmunddukeofedinburg she was a tank
@@princeedmunddukeofedinburg That is so disrespectful. Cass was a very talented woman.
@@Frank00 That is so disrespectful. Cass was a very talented woman.
@@shadowwolf9503 if people like you really cared about people like her you’d care enough to say when someone is over weight instead you celebrate obesity and that mentality leads to more people dying.
Sad to think Cass would die just a little over 2 months later. She had a great voice.
Roger that. Cass was a very talented woman. It is sad that many focused on her weight.
the industry has never had that moment where they've truly decided they were going to deal with addiction and the dark side of that business. So many lost and so many didn't need to be.
@@shadowwolf9503 She didn't mind, don't forget they even wrote their own lyrics making fun of her and she was okay with it.
@@GLC-1979 She might have acted like it didn't bother her, but it did hurt her very much.
@@shadowwolf9503 Doubt it.
Cass was great ❤❤❤
What a Beautiful Soul…I Adore Her!! Brilliant,Shinning Star ⭐️
such a natural star. she radiated charisma. a magnetic soul~
Johnny Carson’s mention of Frank and Anne Hummert and their “empire” refers to an important era in radio history. The Hummerts were so powerful that they could dictate to the major networks which actors, announcers, and even which sponsors would be retained for their numerous programs.
What an angel.
Cass was gone just 3 months later. Wish we could have had her longer. So much amazing music never made from this genius.
love this lady. may she rest in peace ♡
Loved her voice
Strange, watching two people who are no longer living, discussing death and illness.
She died nearly fifty years ago. Aren’t you the clown who quoted Howard stern?
What is wrong with you?
I know, right?? I was thinking the same thing.
The guest ( I know him but can’t remember his name) and Ed are dead too
Thinking the same thing
She's so charming, I could listen to her tell stories all day. I had known of her gorgeous singing voice for years but this is the first time I've seen her just talking and shes a delight!
Johnny kept interrupting her!!! 🤬. But my son kept passing out shortly before he died. These were symptoms. Shame on her doctors for their negligence.
Yep. Women and their symptoms were completely dismissed in those days
I noticed that also. Very irritating 😒
@@JS-ii4xr I disagree, it was like that for men to be honest.
I hope her daughter got all of the money that she could sue those doctors
She tripped. She was a morbidly obese woman and was quite young. A few months later her heart finally gives out after years of abuse. What do you know that the doctors did wrong?
Just love her. Great singer. Great group of the 60s xx❤️🇬🇧
Cass was truly a beautiful woman. Gone way too soon 😢
Great voice...her voice in the background harmonies is simply wonderful.
She was one of the great voice of Mama and Papas. So sad she died very early in her life!!
Cass was always so interesting and relateable on talk shows.
Cass Elliot is lovely ❤️❤️❤️
Sang with Julie Andrew's, Sammy Davis Jr and John Denver. That's how wide her singing ability was. A true musical talent
I’ll put Ella Fitzgerald against her any day and twice on Sunday.
@@toreckman8899 💯 and I will add to your list Judy Garland and Edith Piaf.
@@AFMMarcelD hear hear me lord. 😉
@@toreckman8899 That’s right, and I almost forgot Barbra Streisand another amazing singer.
She seemed so fun to be around
I was a 17-yr-old native Huntington Beach surfer studying classical culture in Europe the summer of 1974, just sat down in the University of Paris, sipping my chocolate out of the bowl and my eyes fell onto a French newspaper with the headline that Cass had died. Heartbroken. Great lady with great voice who helped so many artists break through the boardroom door to get into the business. I hope she's in Heaven. MARANATHA
That was pretty much what happened to me. My best friend and his family had to tell me while we were driving on a trip. I had every album or a track by Cass Elliot and the mamas and the Papas. When they told me the news I was choked up in shock tears losing my favorite female vocalist at such an early age.😢
She had such a marvelous voice.
This interview feels so modern, besides the image and sound. Love it.
And I get so much Adele vibes (in a very good way, both on vocal and personality level).
What a loss.
No wonder she was so popular with the musicians in the Valley. She's really charming.
Not really.
July 29, 1974 in London, England, UK (heart attack) "shows you never know how long you have" !
Such an amazing talent. God Bless her.
RIP Cass I heard she was a wonderful person. When she was in Mama and Papas I was a little kid. I remember hearing her on the radio. My older sister liked the group.
She would pass 29 July 1974. Only a few months later, very sad!
I was a little kid When I heard Cass I was so mesmerized by her😮 Beautiful voice, sweet personality that’s the impression she made on me, Striking woman all the way around😊❤
May 1974, two months before her fatal heart attack. What a voice!
I’m so glad you mentioned her pass due to a heart attack. I get so tired of people saying she choked to death on a chicken bone or died of an overdose p! Thank you!
@@talapeanutbutter4250 you mean a ham sandwhich? lol
Died in her sleep, drug free; surprisingly to some relations. Perhaps a congenital heart defect aggravated by exhaustion. Having built her fame not only on a remarkable voice talent, characterized by an equally unique and beautiful profile made possible by morbid obesity offset by the sweetest smile and friendliness.
@@talapeanutbutter4250 She died because of that excessive body fat....a heart attack was a result of that....
@@princeedmunddukeofedinburg go touch some grass, you are in every comment reply just hating on someone! If you don’t like her, close the video
Johnny was great. But I always hated how he interrupted some guests. Especially when they were clearly about to launch into a story. He does that here and it's a little disrespectful.
But he didn't seem to do that with the old people he had on from time to time. With them, he had infinite patience.
You are so right!!! I wanted to strangle him.
Someone else in the comment section said they thought he was rushing Cass because he was afraid she would pass out again on stage during the conversation.
Such an amazing talent and a very cute lady with a wonderful personality! It truly is so unfair that she died at the age of 32. When she did this interview she only had two months, three weeks and one day left of her life. She put her body through hell with yo-yo dieting just to please others. Just like Karen Carpenter who also died at 32, food became the enemy; each for different reasons, but ultimately ending with the world losing two of the most talented female recording artists ever! I wish I could have known both ladies, but with their music, I feel as though I do. May both live forever with the legacy they left for us!!
David Crosby said he and Cass used opiates, cocaine, and heroin together. People don't die at her age from weight or from dieting. They die from drug abuse.
Two great entertainers RIP.
I remember watching her on a episode of Marcus Welby, about a woman trying to lose weight and how people would assume the worst of her. She was a great actress 👏🏻 ❤
Cedars of Oxnard Johnny was so funny. I was born in Oxnard in 1965. Not the place it once was these days.
She seems to be friendly and warm. It makes her loss that much worse.
Mamas and the papas , still great music , the fact she collapsed just a few months before death maybe a tell tale sign even though she said she didnt eat and blood sugar was off , it was problably heart 💜❤️ related also , which ultimately took her life
Damn!Mama Cass was a real woman with a great voice and sense of humour!Dearly missed!even today!
Roger that! Very well said.
Cass was a great Singer
It's a shame she was lost so young. She had a lot more to give the world
I love her💕
So sad what happened to her; influential in getting Crosby together with Stills and Nash, beloved by everyone on Laurel Canyon. RIP
OMG Johnny let the woman talk!
What a wonderful time...my God!
Wow! A little more than 2 months before she passed!
Back then they didn’t have the medical capability as we do now. She likely could have been diagnosed and treated for her heart condition. RIP Cass Elliot.
Health scares are popping up here. Low blood sugar, fasting habits had to have played some effect on this beautiful woman who had a little girl that needed her mother.we all have an effect on each other, so just love as hard as you can while your here.
RIP Lady Cass Elliot
Wow. This had to be one of her last television appearances before she died 🙁
I remember where I was when I heard the news. A teenager visiting my brother and sister in law in Oxnard ,Calif
@@RjBenjamin353 A heroin sandwich...
@@RjBenjamin353 That is a terrible urban myth. She died of heart failure, and no drugs were in her system.
@@1962pjh thank you for clearing that up Ma’m
@@RjBenjamin353 I second that. Cass was a very talented woman. It's sad that many people focused on her weight- while she was alive- and even after her death. The lie of her choking on a ham sandwich is just horrible.
Bullshit. She had a meal and died about 30-40 minutes after eating. She had heart problems and there were zero drugs in her body.
Sad that she said that she’s back performing in July in which she died
This was shortly before she passed away.... RIP 🙏
This channel really is awesome. We can’t get real quality entertainment in this day & age without all the PC, BS. So great to be able to watch Johnny & his unbelievable guest’s from the past. Real talent. Love Ed also
*guests
Hey Buddy! Hard to follow up Cass fainting. We love you Buddy!
My Buddy...
Is it just me or did Johnny interupt her quite a bit?
He seemed a little tipsy and or being a bit mean to her. (IMO)
~
Love them both and it's crazy she'd pass away nearly 2 months after this was taped.
RIP Mama Cass and Johnny
HE looks like he's not well, almost in pain... I never saw him like this with the furrowed brow....
He wouldn't let her finish a thought. It was irritating.
@@alpha-omega2362 Not defending Johnny but he was craving his nicotine like crazy that night, notice @ 7:21 when he tries to inhale a couple swigs incognito.
Notice too how unusually hyper he was during this interview, nicotine has all kinds of weird side affects.
She looked great in that dress! 💕
GREAT VOICE AN SINGER RIP MAMA CASS
She collapsed due to undiagnosed left sided heart failure, not exhaustion as the doctors diagnosed..
Back then medicine wasn't as advanced and being obese makes noticing these issues even harder
Her weight really doesn't make her less great. Her voice is the best. I don't care about her weight.
Monday Monday was the first record I bought, when I was five.
Love Mama Cass.
God rest all their Souls.
Both great ppl...never saw mama Cass before
Johnny seemed liked he drank too much coffee that night.
Irish Coffee.
Never knew she was so entertaining.
Yeah, Cass was a very talented woman. So many people made fun of her weight. I truly believe that she would have been even more famous than she was if she had been built different. It's just a shame !
I wish he didn't interuppt hwr and cut her off most of the interview, I was far more interested in what she had to say over his annoying quips and interjections. An amazing woman Cass was, and took it all with grace and class!
She said everything is fine.....she died 2 months later after this show.
She stayed in the hospital for a few days after collapsing and they couldn't diagnose a heart problem?
What a class act! Cass was a real singer, not like these studio creations they have today.
I know Carson is an icon but - OMG - let Cass finish a sentence once in a while. His constant interruptions were pissing me off.
My nextdoor neighbor watched all the soaps. You could hear her laughing at them.
I asked her why and she said because the people were so stupid.
Carson kept interrupting her.
She seemed lovely as well as talented
The vapors? She died 2 months after this broadcast.
Love the fact she had it in her to make a weight joke, probably one of the first women to do it
I feel her... when she talked about soap operas... so weird that she said she didn't watch the ones on CBS... I didn't either when I watched them in the 80s 90s... they were NBC and ABC soaps I watched and they are addicting...I gave them up in the 90s
AAAARGHHH. She hardly ever got a sentence out without him redirecting. Weird interview.
Why did Johnny keep interrupting her?
Only other time I've heard the vapors described besides biz markie
Johnny talks too much for someone doing an "interview".....we want to hear her talk.
Cass didnt like to be called Mama Cass. I don’t blame her. Just Cass Elliot
Cass Elliot - such a beautiful and talented lady.
Two months before she died
Carson keeps interrupting her so rude
Bruh I will never understand fat shaming! I’ve never been overweight but damn the way society treats bigger people is awful! People really never mind their own business and it’s so perplexing to me. Such a hateful thing to do.
JOHNNY CARSON IS THE BEST WAS THE BEST NOBODY CAN DO WHAT CARSON DID ON A TALK SHOW NO HOST IN 2023 ALL OF THEM SHOULD BE TAKEN OFF THE AIR THEY ARE NOT EVEN FUNNY SADLY MISSED JC
The whole talk show format was buried once Johnny left. They all tout Lettermen, but he was a dim flame compared to Johnny. Everyone else not even worth mentioning.
How did Johnny last on the show for so many years with all of the interrupting he does???
I love Johnny Carson but he interrupted her so many times. I’d love to hear what she was gonna say before he interrupted her for the 17th time…
rip
2 months before her death............................................................................................Damn!
