Autumn Woodland Photography. Embracing Sunny & Windy Weather

  • What a fantastic week we had in Scotland. No mist, fog, sunrise or sunset, but we all came away with some beautiful images of trees and woodland scenes. The autumn colour was wonderful and the surroundings perfectly peaceful, so we creatively embraced whatever weather we were given. Here's one approach which can both capture the energy of challenging conditions or soften the complexity.

    A big congratulations on discovering a new style of photography. I am amazed of the ability to make a photo take on the effects of a fine art painting. The details of the leaves and foliage replicate the strokes that an artist would use. Thank you for sharing the process and inspiring all of us to embarrass the sunshine and wind. Your love of the forest comes through in all conditions. Truly amazing.

    Such interesting, and in a way ethereal, images created by embracing the wind and foliage movement...thank you for giving me something new to consider and play with on windy days! Hey Simon, another beautiful video filled with incredible images. Thanks so much for sharing this. Often shooting woodland in the conditions you mentioned really doesn't lead to great results but you've proved you can make some breathtaking images! The slow motion video shot of the leaves in the water near the end was also beautiful. Thanks for being such a huge inspiration... As I do most of my shooting in western Minnesota and the Dakota's, wind is an almost constant factor. That said, I really appreciated the insight to using the ND filters and creating some creative and artistic shots that make the most of the eternal breezes. I recently started taking woodland image making more seriously and I've found that I feel a water source, a stream or Brook, really helps me conpose my images. I just fell that the combination of water and earth is more appealing to my eye and helps me create more interesting images. I personally find trees alone doesn't work for me. I like the work of other creators but personally find them uninteresting to shoot myself. Anyway thank you for inspiring me to get out in the woodland more recently and it is thanks to a certain image of yours called Quiet Quercus

    May I ask you something off-topic? Do you have the feeling that the climate change is very visible this year than the years before? Here in Austria we barely had any rain, which is not typical for this kind of season, and it looks and feels more than end of September than end of October. As much as I like the beautiful weather it simply feels not right. Well beside that I thank you for sharing another great video with us :) really love the content you create.

      Many thanks, Simon. I think every year I say that it feels different, but this year feels especially late. I've had years where I return from Scotland at the beginning of November and it feels like autumn is mostly over in my local area, but this year is still quite green in places. Migrating birds are choosing to stay for longer too!

    • @SimonBaxterPhotography
      @SimonBaxterPhotography  Před rokem +1

      There's been fewer videos this year because the Woodland Sanctuary exhibition has taken up so much of my time.
      Since then, we've not had much in the way of great conditions, but I've certainly been filming more often (another already recorded). Having said that, if we do get good conditions then I'm more likely concentrate on the photography and retrospectively produce a video if I think there is something of value to say. Always photography first :)
