Love the driftwood pieces ! Also …. as a fisherman myself ( I caught my first ever Striper from the Plum Island beach in front of Camp Sea Haven when I worked there ) ….. be careful handling the sand worms ! They have a set of pinchers in their mouth and can inflict a bite if handled improperly ! Cheers Ladies ! 👍🤗

Do you get those awesome eccentric sand dollars Miriam or are they only in California and Oregon?
Those surf clams, also called sea clams are eaten. We used to get them and my mother would make sea clam pie. Boy it was delicious! And then we would have some beautiful shell too!
Yes!! Up here in New England, those big surf clams are used in our famous clam chowder!

I thought the same thing. When I got home that afternoon, I grabbed my small garden rake and shovel and put it in my car so I’ll always have it available.
Kim has a rake!! I am old school - I just get in there and grab what I can!
I sometimes wish I had two more arms/hands for just such an occasion. LOL...no rake?- no problem lol.

@@PlumIslandSeaCabin stupid question of the day and here it goes! Are the sand dollars found on Plum island the same species of sand dollars on the Oregon coast? I should probably just Google it instead of embarrassing myself 😂😂😂but what the heck!
Hi Sara! The Oregon coast sand dollars are different from the sand dollars we find here on PI. The Oregon species is an eccentric sand dollar and the petaloid is located at the bottom. The PI sand dollar is a common and the petaloid is located in the center. Neither have keyholes (lanules) like the sand dollars you find in the south. The eccentric dollar is definitely on my bucket list - hope to find one someday!!

I just had to tell you that I found a black scallop shell in Destin Florida today! You inspired me to go shelling! It’s only about 1 inch across but I’m so excited! And no chips out of it!

I think that kelp is called sieve kelp. There are so many different kinds. As a kid I used to think, the only kind was the long strip that looks like lasagna lol :-) this video makes me want to venture immediately to Plum Island! 🌊🌊🌊🌊🐚🦀🐚🌅

Awesome day! I didn’t have as much luck with the shells, but I found 126 pieces of seaglass 3 days after the nor’easter which is unheard of round here. I’m lucky to find 5-10 in a shell hunt.
I love to collect seaglass. I love when I find pieces with markings on them that I can use to identify. I found quite a few very old and unique pieces.
It's always fun finding sea glass though!!

Hi Cherry. I post shell hunts on my Etsy page. You can find the link below. I don't do it very often though. It all depends on the weather - storms, weather patterns and tides. These conditions usually cough up a lot of amazing shells! Thanks for watching!

Do you mean Rhode Island or Route 1? If you mean the state, then no. Rhode Island is about 2 hours from Plum Island. If you mean Route 1, then "sort of." Route 1 runs through Newbury which is where Plum Island is located.

How much is a “shell hunt “
Do you get shells, sea glass , etc?
Hi! A shell hunt is $150 which includes the shells from the day's hunt, a Plum Island Sea Cabin t-shirt & shell bag and of course a shout out on the video. I don't post a shell hunt every week though. Only when the weather conditions are just right - weather patterns, storm, surf, etc. I do it this way because it almost guarantees that you receive a boat load of wonderful shells!
