    Lovely selection of records Dale.
I agree totally with The Wall, when i was 14 years old i thought it was amazing..but that aggression and nihilism just doesn't resonate like it used to..love Meddle, Echoes is one of my all time favourites..a real transcendent listen.
Still enjoy Animals, Sheep being the highlight for me.
Joy of a Toy is a nice album..i really like the closer ' All This Crazy Gift of Time'.
Listened to an interesting conversation online recently between Radie Peat of Lankum and Shirley Collins...Shirley was just so sweet, like a favourite aunt.
The Hoople is a magnificent piece of rock n roll glam and Motts' finest hour.
I still don't own a Colloseum record..see Valkerie Suite all the time, shoukd pick it up next time i see it.
Hope you're having a good week..mind that cough..lot of Covid about at the minute.

Hi Rob, what little I know of Shirley Collins I admire, so must find out more. I picked-up her latest album and it's amazing she's still making interesting music. I've managed to avoid Covid to date so fingers crossed...cheers Dale

A nice collection of albums Dale. I really like Kevin Ayers quirky vocal style and Joy Of A Toy is one of my favourites by him. PSB are a favourite of mine. The new double live album celebrating the BBC is a return to form for them. Happy Autumn listening, cheers Mike

Hi Mike - I listened to the new PSB album on the train back from work this week and really enjoyed it. Need to find a copy now as I'm a bit late...

Love this theme Dale. I’ll probably steal this idea and brand it as my own for future videos. Seriously, we all need to do this once in a while. Those drum solos, sheesh!! Cheers.

Steal away...I've done this for a few years now and it's enjoyable to reach into the darkest corners of the collection...

I listen to The Wall once every 20 years or so. I think I like it better way back when. the Colour of Spring is my fav Talk Talk album. I keep hearing about Public Service Broadcasting recently, so i am going to stream Every Valley now.

I think once every 20 years may be where I'm heading with The Wall. Interested to get your thoughts on PSB. I like them but follow several other artists who do similar things but I know others rave about them...

Yes a funny autumn so far. I loved that heatwave at the beginning of September.
Joy of a Toy is understated but is I think a Canterbury masterpiece.

I really enjoyed going back to it, so need to try and ensure it isn't another five years before the next spin...

Nice selection Dale. The Wall was never my favourite Floyd album - after a recent listen I found LP1 to be stronger than the 2nd disc.
The Hoople is excellent and features two if my favourite Mott songs (which you mentioned) Marionette and Roll Away The Stone.
Early Shirley Collins albums are really hard to find - wish I could get them into my collection.
Theme For An Imaginary Western was I think originally on Jack Bruce's 1969 solo album Songs Fir A Tailor. The band Greenslade also featured it on their album Spyglass Guest.
I've heard of, but not checked out Galley Beggar - don't know why as they sound right up my street.
    Cheers...Pete

Hi Pete - I should have known about the Jack Bruce version as I have that album - Doh! I'd recommend giving both of the albums that Galley Beggar did on the Rise Above label a listen...cheers Dale

Great stuff Dale some awesome albums there. I listened to the Wall a couple of weeks back for the first time in about 5 years. It sounds amazing, but it’ll probably be another 5 years before I feel the need to revisit it again. I do love Meddle and Animals they get played quite often in my house. I Increasingly find myself reaching for Talk Talk albums - especially the last two. Take care cheers

I think once every five years for the Wall is about right for me now too. The last three Talk Talk albums are all fantastic and you can really get absorbed in them...

Dale I have a similar view of Floyd - hardly play any album these days but surprisingly listened to Dark Side a few weeks back - Meddle was my first love upon release

HI Dale. I don't know if such things interest you but the recent 'Dark Side of Roger Waters' documentary is an interesting watch, in a depressing way. I finally managed to re-listen to The Wall all the way through last year and really enjoyed it apart from The Trial which just seemed tiresome. A friend of mine recently told me that the Gilmour/Orb album is worth a listen. Cheers, James

Hi James - I might bite the bullet and seek out the Waters documentary but I don't tend to enjoy what he has to say these days...Cheers Dale

  • @anotherfatbeardedmantalkin5893

    Hey, Dale.
Blimey, original pressings of Shirley and Dolly Collins albums go for silly prices. It's totally beyond me why we don't see many new represses, the value of the records clearly indicates people want them.
Those arrangements by Dolly Collins create a rather weird hybrid music, which is far from an "authentic" folk music. In fact, the pairing folk melodies with the instrumentation of the Tudor court, is somewhat incongruous. The Folk songs were or the people and almost exclusively sung a cappella, whereas the instrumentation of sackbutt, rebec, Violone and recorder would play specific music for the court.
Despite that juxtaposition, I love those records. I just wish I could have more on vinyl without the need of selling a kidney.
    Cheers - Hedley

    • @gatefold33
      @gatefold33  Před 10 měsíci

Oh no Hedley you're testing me again...
On 'Love, Death...' I felt Shirley's voice was prominent and Dolly's music wasn't particularly intrusive, so it had a more traditional feel of primarily trying to get the folk tale across. Not true a cappella like Anne Briggs' debut but not Leige and Lief either...and I am much more of a music person than a lyrics person. Perhaps 'Anthems in Eden' (which I also own - sorry...) is a bit more 'produced' but I can't really remember, so probably need to spin it and report back next month...Cheers Dale

I'm undecided too about PSB the music is half decent but samples a tad predictable and rather regulated nothing that exciting. Animals and the wall i culled them both preferring ones like DSOTM, meddle and early stuff. Good win for WWFC today picking up the pace now especially as Oxford local rivals have been flying.

    • @gatefold33
      @gatefold33  Před 10 měsíci +1

Yes WWFC have picked-up. I was worried when they lost their first two league games. It's often tricky when you bring back a playing legend as manager but he seems to be settling down...
