When talking about dopamine, it definitely helps to explain that it is not a REWARD chemical, but a motivational chemical. It drives you to do something, and then in turn serotonin is your reward chemical. A minor difference sure, but big enough to change the understanding

I did actually notice a few mythological inaccuracies in dislyte, they called hades a god of death, A FREAKING GOD OF DEATH, HADES IS THE GOD OF THE UNDER WORLD, THANATOS IS THE GREEK GOD OF DEATH, NOT HADES.
That really depends on what myth you’re looking at tho. Myths aren’t exactly the most consistent thing in the world
after all they are largely based off of whoever's telling the myth's own perception of it.
Also they made Tang Yun Wukong’s brother…isn’t Tang Yun his forgotten son in the mythology or a demon Wukong had to fight? Don’t recall them ever being..brotherly when I looked up the mythology.
well, mythos really have a hard canon lore to explore, literally everything can be canon and can't be canon, it is confusing sometimes

Even down to the sound effects in Dislyte, the game is really satisfying when it comes to sound in all fronts. Perfect for someone like me who only needs pretty colors and music to stay entertained lol

I'm personally not very into turn based games, especially not gacha ones, but I gotta say, these characters looks SO FREAKING COOL. Character design are an absolute 10/10. Absolutely love it. And the fact that music is a big part of it, a huge part of my life, I'm kinda expecting P:GR level of quality. For a gacha game, that's quite a high bar. I'm considering downloading the game and give it a whirl. Who knows, maybe I'll have a new addiction lol
Also to any other music nerds out there, check out Punished: Gray Raven's OST. It's an anime gacha game, but their music is quite top tier 👌🏼
I've literally been playing this game non-stop for the last few days and it's addicting and I love it
The ultimate frustrating irony is that as a video editor, despite using music to enhance the watcheability of a video, when editing narration or speech, it's almost impossible to focus on someone's cadence or timing or natural speech patterns while jamming out to your favorite grooves. A lot of days I have to work in silence just because of all the spoken words I gotta stitch together smoothly and add musical accents after. But if i had chill vibes in the background, it would take me twice as long to string together coherent and smooth sounding sentences.
If "we don't talk about Bruno" counted, we'd all be screwed. I can do all the parts.
I just finished my first year of college getting a degree in Music Therapy. So the praise of music therapy and music in general in this video just makes me happy
2:03 this may be a joke but I'm a person who suffers from back problems but I'm not even out of highschool so carrying around a normal cane is weird but I would absolutely use a "theory stick" with it being a ball with the three theory channels on the inside and the holder is the crown around the logo with a yellow green and red pixel styles resin shaft

So little story before Covid hit I was taking piano lessons. Right when it hit I stopped playing for about two years. Then one day in 2022 I got motivation to just go to the piano and play random notes. Those “random notes” were actually the notes to play silent night. I feel like it’s a similar situation for the dancer. I still made a few mistakes but I was still able to play it.

as a person who does practically all his exercise to music I can attest to how much energy it gives you

I still remember even doing this kind of testing on myself just to see if it could help me perform better in games and surprisingly enough, it kind of does. Personally, it seems sort of genre specific too. Lo-Fi tends be a go-to genre for me when I'm doing something else or I'm in a bad mood, but when trying to play games it gets me too mellow and I start underperforming slightly. But turn on something like rock, metal, electronic, anything that's louder with a more defined beat and I start to feel more active and alert; making my reactions and aim a bit better. Of course, this is probably different for everyone. But it's cool to learn all the things the brain is influenced by.
My boyfriend also listens to things like rock and metal when playing games! That's super interesting

The second half of this theory reminds me of an episode of Nova. They used similar science to manipulate the reasoning patterns of test subjects. Testers were exposed to a story (two men are making coffee. Person 1 asks person 2 to make his coffee. Person 2 puts poison in 1’s coffee and normal sugar in his own. When giving the coffees, they get mixed up and 1 receives the safe coffee and 2 is killed) and asked to assess the morality of person 2. I don’t remember the specifics, but they used powerful electromagnets to turn off the section of the brain that assumes he poisoned the coffee intentionally, and the results were comprehensive
what's funny is that they actually do bring up mind control in the story so nice job matpat
8:30 a new Mr. L theory: there is a specific sound that comes from Nastasia when she hypnotizes someone. what if that sound did that, and put him under her control? dying would SURE get your memories back, which is probably why Dimentio killed him: to get Luigi back so he could use him by planting a seed into him after he died and was unconscious in the Underwhere.

I love this one because music really helps my ADHD, ADD, and Anxiety. See, my counselor said my ADHD and ADD feeds into my Anxiety because it's a stimulant, and that in turn causes more anxiety. 😵 But when I started taking medication and using music, it stopped the loop and I can focus on bigger tasks much better. 😁

They way music interacts with the brain is fascinating. I once had a concert where our pianist had a stroke just before we started. She completely forgot where she was, and even started to go home. Once we got her back on stage, though, she played as if nothing had happened. She didn't recognize any of us, but her performance was completely unaffected.
She was still recovering for years afterwards, and last I'd heard was mostly better, but nothing shows just how differently music is retained in the brain.
At 4:03, what do "positive music" and "negative music" mean? Is it high-energy vs. low-energy, music the listener enjoys vs. dosen't enjoy, well-made vs. poorly-made, or something else?
exaclty, these are wayyyy too many conclusions from some experiments which have huge variability in their interpretation.

I love the sound theory. My fiance is actually going to be doing a sound therapy in the next week or so to help his mood. It's called -safe and sound- look it up MatPat! It is supposed to trigger your inner ear specifically to help desensitize it in a way. I'll have to see what it does exactly, but it's interesting.

I started playing Dislyte before I found out Mat Pat made a video on Dislyte. I have been playing since launch and I enjoy it so much, It is one of my favorite games.

one thing that I have noticed is that matpat missed out on a detail. there is a rhythm game in dyslight itself, and in when you unlock mona, there is some dialogue where discoboom says that she is helping her resolve through the power of music
At 4:15 what defines positive and negative music? Is it music that that particular person loves and hates? Like I listen to hard rock and metal music while I drive, and I don’t swerve and I have full attention to the road.
