- In today video we are out in the fields as we release our 4 weanling heifers after treatment for a cough, our in calve heifers also come in for winter. At home the drying off period has started with the first 10 of our cows getting the annually dose and trim. A new hook dosing gun has gotten of to a poor start!
Your channel is a ray of sunshine on the internet, thank you for existing.
I always found a hook dosing gun useless when the cow was held in the crush gate. However if you fill the race and go down dosing each one where she stands the cow in front will keep her head up when you remove the hook stopping her from dropping her head and losing product by spitting it out, I always catch the last one at the front again so that you are never dosing the one at the very front in the headlock.
It’s worth trying, very speedy when you get the hang of it.
That’s a good idea. Stands to sense
I’ll try that for sure, thanks for the tip 👌
Sorry to Hear your a bit under the weather Adrian, Take it Handy 🙌
Glad you are feeling better.... nothing worse than a Prick of a headache 😂
Radio is a great job for cows and cattle, keeps them calm and gets them used to noise and people talking
The calm and steady way that you manage your animals is brilliant to watch, my late father was a herdsman and he was the same quiet and calm never heard him say he had got an injured cow with falling or anything similar, hope you feel better soon Adrian
So sorry you got Covid. What a mess. Hope you recover quickly. Don't over exert too soon, make sure you are really well first. Always good to see happy cows on a Sunday morning!
Glad to hear you feeling a bit better Adrian, the old Covid is no joke having had it myself a few times. Had to laugh at the calves trying to get away on you. Its like the animals know you are feeling under the weather and decide to play up, you will be glad you have no sheep, they seem to wait to the worst time possible before acting up. 🙄
Covid really makes it hard to get a good breath. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Thanks for taking us along.
Have a great day!
You could use a 200 litre plastic barrel as a head scoop, maybe turn upside down to keep sharp corners on the ground. It makes the job a lot easier.
Covid or no Covid Farmers NEVER stop working, Respect.
Adrian, thanks for another video. Hope you are fully recovered soon. Difficult when you've got the farm to run but try and take it easy for a while. Regards
My favourite viewing on a Sunday morning. Well done to the girls for helping you, had similar flu/Covid a couple of weeks back. Very tiring and the cough hangs about for weeks, it’s not a dry cough.
You illness has not affected to usual high quality of your video 👍
Just goes to show, farmers still have to tent to there jobs regardless how they feel. It’s a great thing for people to see. Your animal husbandry is second to none, them cattle are a credit to you.
We use fishing line here to tie off the warts/berry’s, works a treat. Them dosing guns are messy, we just add a little extra dose to compensate for it. Great video Adrian
Hope you get better soon
The only way to blow out the lungs is lots of exercise Great video 👍
exactly right pulling a sicky just doesn't happen
Aw stop got it there a few months ago for the second time and I was knocked for a week and so tired, farming hard enough as it is but has to be done no rest for the wicked great job adrian
The head scoop are a great job Adrian, also for yourself try carrageen ( sea moss) to clear out your ailment, boil it up, strain it and down the hatch with a drop of milk.
My daughter brought covid back from school twice, didn't affect me at all, and I tested posative, the first time I had covid I actually felt better than I normally do.
Great job Adrian, no rest for the wicked, keep at her Lad!
We always used the castrating bands, worked great, if you get a thin one we I would use fine baling twine.
Aww gawd love you Adrian 👍🏆♥️ you're a trooper 🤗 I wish you a speedy recovery ❤
Good man Adrian, no stopping you.
Get better soon.
Glad to hear the angle berries cleared up Adrian. 😉 Happy days 👌 hope you get over that auld COVID, your a tough nut. 💪
I caught it 3 weeks ago and although I was really ill for a couple of days, i started getting over that, then I caught flu, which I haven't had for 30+ yrs so now I still get tired and breathless now 3 weeks on. Get better soon ☘️☘️☘️
I’m ok now, a bit fatigued but otherwise nearly 100% out of it. Hope you feel fully better soon Teresa
My son had COVID earlier this year, he was rough for 24 hrs, about 2 months later he got a cold, was rough for a week and has just got over the flu which started 4 weeks ago, he must have been ill he self employed and had to take a few days off. Hope you get better soon. 👍
Good man adrian get well soon get some one in for a week or so if you can and give yourself a break to recover
A head scoop is the job with them hook dosing guns Adrian, Id recommended Niall Barrett engineering head gate and scoop a serious job, hope you feel better soon👍
Pray that you get better soon. You still have to do your work while you're sick.
We’ve all been there…. Feeling like 5h1t and so you do that thing you’d never do otherwise…drive across a wet field or risk a stray heifer so you don’t have to go back again. Here’s hoping you recover fast!
Never stops.... Good work sir.. 👏. Stay safe 🏴
Was at a meeting run by my veterinary practice a few years ago. One of the vets said that a head scoop was a better investment than the hook drenchers as the animals would spit some out most of the time.
I agree and also it's safer for you the farmer and easier to manage the animal
Spot on, couldn’t agree more. Even now, that’s what we’re told is the best advice as vet students too
Yeah head scoop is a great job
Another good one Adrian, not easy to be out working when under the weather, dont over do it if you have covid because it will catch up with you when you think you are right again,i had covid probably 2years ago now and i thought nothing of it,but about 2 weeks after it had gone i got this brutal pain in my lower back and side couldnt do anything,as it turned out it was a kidney infection which came about as a result of covid and not taking the rest when i should have ,my system was run down, mind yourself Adrian that covid is a curse👍
Glad you are feeling better.
Great video Adrian. Hope you get better soon..
Sorry to hear that you’re not feeling well. The best is that you are out breathing fresh air. Hopefully you’ll not have rain to deal with. Thank you for sharing. 😊
Almost fully better now Georgia

Love the cows. Your tractor has a very smooth purr. Can’t believe the suns out lol. Hope your better soon x
Great video Adrian. Hope you are feeling better. Enjoyed watching. 👍🏼👍🏼
Get well soon Adrian and family. That covid is a hoard of a dose. Fair play to you for putting up the video and you dying with the dose.
Get well soon Adrian. 👍👍❤️
Thank you for uploading. A farmer is never off work bu.t please take care of yourself. Covid is no joke and comes back with no warnings whatsoever. We can wait, your health is more important, to you and your family especially.

Hi Adrian them brushes are great I'd put one in collecting yard as well
Good job there Adrian take care of yourself 👍👍
good video Adrian wishing you a speedy recovery that covid is horrible.
Cows love the radio 📻.
The goweil bale shear would be the simplest and easiest to use imo I’ve used them all the thats what I’ve found. Done different from the rest of them it’s very hard to miss the plastic with it
Good man Adrian. That’s a lot of hard work and you suffering from the Covid. It just shows us farmers have to keep going no matter what. Keep up the good work. See you on Saturday
Cheers Alan
I hope you are feeling better soon. Take care and try to take it easy as you can to give yourself time to help your recovery.
Great stuff Adrian, as they would say one time your a tonic ,take care
get well soon thank you
Hope you get better soon, what a place to be self isolating all that lovely countrysid. Years ago I used to visit farms delivering fuel for tractors and heating, at of farmers swore by the radio apparently it relaxed them. Hope you get better soon. 👍
U have a great setup I must say
Adrian your great to😂work through covid .Every one i talk to has the same symptoms as you have take care of your self as I love your videos
Great video Hope you're feeling better soon Hubby uses the cow in front to hold the head up but you need a bit of help😅
Try the easy swing cow brush like Tom pemberton they are a brilliant job very robust cows love scratching and playing with them
We always had radio in our tiestall barn when I was growing up
One nephew still does.
Good video hope you're feeling better now
Good video
Get wel soon.
I'd say the keltec bale shear is the one works well for me on 100 hp case with rear weight wouldn't b without it look after yourself with that flue
Great video Adrian covid is no joke it's here to stay. Hope you get better soon
SPRING hooks look a great job
Give yourself time to recuperate it really zaps your energy for along time.
Adrian, sorry to hear you’ve got C. I have the same symptoms, but for me, I think it’s old age 😢 I’ve watched several folk use the same applicator, and similar results. Some cattle manage to spit a bunch back out.
Hi Adrian,,a scoup on ur front gate to keep there heads up works for me.need to keep there heads up for longer.
Watch Sonne Farms. They have an attachment on the front of their crush to hold the cow/calf head up until they swallow the drench. Hope this helps. Hope you are soon better.
I hope you feel better soon, Covid has so many random symptoms.
Verbal diarrhoea ?
We invested in a head scoop for dehorning and dosing, great for putting in the calcium bullets after calving. Saves the dislocated shoulders too.
Need get crush gate keeps head up.nice Christmas present.for ya
I watch some of #TWIV weekly clinical updates with Daniel Griffin. From what I understand some people should be getting paxlovid, straight away. Take it easy, some COVID infections can really take it out of you for a while. Some people have long COVID, that's quite scary. IndieSAGE have episodes on that. It's possibly similar for some cases to some cattle that get pneumonia and are left with lung scarring. I hope you make a full recovery.
Love your content brother
Get well soon Adrian
The Corrs Adrian, The Corrs best thing for high bp. (Way better than Celine Dion)👍Went to their last Concert (for this tour) in Christchurch, NZ on Saturday night. Been on a high ever since! 😃
Would you believe me if I said the Corrs are actually closely related to us! still wouldn’t listen to them 😂😂
@@IFarmWeFarm🤬 Just might be the last vlog we watch of yours! 😂
I have one of those guns and I can't make any hand of it. Great video
Hope you get well soon adrian..
Get well soon
get well soon.
get well soon ,,, head scoop would be a big help ,,not sure your sculling gate will let the head up high enough ,,,,hook might work with them in tight in the crush easier that the gate keep up the good work
To keep the cows head up get a pallet under her neck which means she can't put her head down. Works well for drenching, working on eyes etc
Hi Adrian hope I’ve spelt your name correctly I’m compelled to watch your every video when you get a minute could you please explain drying a cow off I’ve just googled it and I’m sure others might not know what it is hope you feel better and just like to say what fantastic videos you put out your recommendations for Karen Moynihan and the sheep Shepard were spot on all the best John from Wakefield
Get well and take care of yourself. I can't have my favorite Irishman out sick!
We always played country and western music for the cows. Then my brother discovered rock. That didn't last long in the barn. The girls production dropped off quite a bit.
Johnny cash is better than meatloaf anytime.
Hope you're soon tickety boo, Adrian 😊
Great video. I think the tine grab and a Stanley knife only job for bales. Them dosing guns are a 2 person job. Long pipes getting caught in the animal and the crush. A pour on for cows is extremely handy
what way do you do that
@@kieranosullivan02 hi, do which, bales or dosing
@@gerryryan2142 bales with tine grab. Without seeing these demos you'd think these machines were great, they're pretty good but far from perfect also
Sometimes the old way is the best way.
If you move the hook around in the mouth they tend to keep the head up better also if you try doing them loose in the crush it seems to work better as they are pulling back when there caught with the head down
Will try that John, 👌
About the rod for dosing my dad hates them same problem as you the animals kept throwing it out of their mouth he started using closemectin its ot a yellow box very dear stuff but all you Need is a gun screw it to the bottle and pour it down their back it's around 400 euro for 3 litres
I have a hooked drencher, there's way more of a bend back on mine and the length of the mouthpiece is about half the length of yours. I find it way better to does them in the crush rather than in the head gate as they usually swing their heads back up. There's very little spillage if any at all. I'll try send a video of it through your website or Facebook.
