I wanted to point out a trick for those motor brackets. Before you take the bracket off of the old motor, put a 1/2" self tapper through the strap and into the center hump in each bracket arm. This way the arms stay in place. I always hated that style bracket until I had one with screws in it from the factory. Now they all get an upgrade.
Thanks for the tip
I'm gonna try the screws is the short 5/16 self tap
That's awesome. Thanks
Someone knows there shit!! That’s what I came up with
Not only are we service techs we are also engineers
Ahhhh. The intermittent x13. Gotta love those. Seems to always be a last call on a Friday 😂
Yeah, they are junk. I carry at least 2 of the inverters on the trucks at all times. And, one complete motor.
evergreen to the rescue Love them motors & much cheaper than OEM
That frond really wanted to be in the movie. :)
At least with a package unit everything is in one place.
@@Chris2745100 and, you don't have to get in an attic.
Well done Curtis, we are getting very cold windy weather south of Sydney this week, it has been getting down to 6c at my home during the day, they are getting good snow falls south of Canberra in the ski fields 👍 Au
Sounds nice right about now
most units now have something called a freeze stat. that is what was opening not the low pressure switch. just a hunch good video.
Never seen freeze stat on residential equipment. All commercial equipment have them. Especially on hydronic coils. Trane uses an evaporator defrost control (EDC) on their 7.5T and up DX systems that will disable compressor until coil is above freezing. A conventional freeze stat is a manual reset.
It might Not look too good but it’s Running and it’s Freakin Hot. 🥵 👍
When it rains it pours. I think you got it this time. We'll see, good video.
Amazed that you know where all the screws are. Lol
Always, Always, Always carry modules that failed continuous on my truck. It'll get you through the weekend and the size doesn't really matter..
I always appreciate someone who always has an adjustable hammer but I super impressed when he knows how to use it 😂
When you're an HVAC tech, every tool is a hammer.
In that case is where prefer an analog meter . Have a great day.
Curtis another great video getting the job done and the cooling on
suggestion, PB-Blaster stinks, and could blow that smell into the house, some people are very sensitive to smells. as a home DIY mechanic i use acetone and automatic trans fluid 50/50 mix works as good as PB-blaster and the smell goes away unlike pb. actually nail polish is acetone. mix up in a squirt bottle.
About as real world as it gets
It’s nice you have a lot of outside advice
Only if it's correct advise; many times advise in wrong!
Another day another ECM motor lol
The guy whose moniker is "We'll Test That." The tester tried about 20 different penetrating oils, and good old liquid Wrench won hands down.
Good job Curtis!
Thanks
Great job,Curtis!
Thanks!
Nice work Curtis.
Thanks!
Hey Curtis, I’m looking at getting a Veto Pac. I noticed you now use the open tote instead of the little zip up pack. Was the other one not working well?
They both are great . I just wanted a change
So it was 410a, you had it set on r22. When you kept saying pressures are fine I was like what is he talking about that's horrible for R22.
Extreme heat can make a person to suffer confusion; It happens sometimes!
I am reading the pressure not the refrigerant
@@HVACGUY OK. It makes sense!
On the Fieldpiece probes doesn’t matter, pressures will remain the same, only superheat and subcool will be different
Just a built in P/T chart
I'm old school enough that I had a Robinair digital in the 90's that you would plug in the chip for the different refrigerants.
I always hawk tuahie the ports after removing the gages.
Great stuff :)
Sometimes the x13 loses its program and they can reprogram the motor at the supply house
That should not be happening. Good reason to switch brands.
@@dfirth224 Maybe it was originally programmed by CrowdStrike?
😂😂@@stevea6722
How about them Elephant Leaves!!!
You have your job link set for R22, and you said R410
I’m I’m just reading pressures I don’t care what it’s set on. So, likely didn’t see it.
@davidb2438 If you have to look at the refrigerant type then maybe just maybe you might want to look at a p t chart.
The only reason I have mindset to the correct to refrigerant is because I do a lot of inspections and homeowners. And real estate agents are quite frankly arted
@@shawnm5641 I was just making an observation
I have seen systems suck air in through a leak before. Causing all kinds of crap.
Yes, that would mean it is in a vacuum.
Great video Curtis. But I feel alone and have OCD when I watch your channel. You come across some really dumpy looking HVAC systems. Why aren't the homeowners and/or tenants taking care of these systems by keeping them clean? Mine was installed in 2010 and try to keep it looking new and clean as much as possible.
Ugh. The dreaded ECM motor, right? I can't wait till the one in my gas furnace goes out. I do have it protected with a surge protector though. Hopefully helps. You needed a cord to tie up those leaves. Very annoying, but nice plant. nice to be able to work off the back of the truck.
At least it's not that job high up on a platform with only a hot metal roof to set tools on!
I'd insist on a scaffold setup to work on that one.
ditto
👍👍👍😎☕
Good job .
You should replace relay or contacter every time you replace any motor
Thus effects on durability and prolonged life of motor.
Stay blessed
If relay or contactor "points" are in good shape, they don't need replacement!
@@bobboscarato1313 agreed
But my personal experience is to replace them
Callback or complain chances minimise
That's called up selling un needed parts. No ty...
@@Mike-cc3bc 😀😀
Very funny
I am not a seller of anything
Get you some kroil oil and you will throw that PB blaster in the trash. Its in an orange can. Work way better.
Kroil does work very well on rusty metal...
At 28 dollars ,it better work
@@daddygc5814 all you need is a drop 💧💧 or two.
there is a lot of electronic crap inside those blower motors that can fail or intermittent......... after my blower burned out, I put a regular motor, 3 speed and a relay 24v to run it.
Do you think those grindings and cuttings being generated, maybe, could cause a jamming at the top ledge of the motor shaft and blower clamp edge?
Ty Wrap that leaf out of your way.
Would the following be a useful idea?
Get a magnet with either a hole in it or a clip attached; something to which you can attach an insulated 1"-2" wire with a male spade lug on it. When you pull a connector off a contactor or anywhere else that you don't want to hit a ground and blow a fuse, just plug it into this little device and stick it out of the way somewhere. Just a thought.
Hopefully there's no further callback on this one.
I would use a flash bulb ( not that anyone would know what I'm referring to ) and wire in parallel with a safety to see what was tripping when I wasn't there.
I wish you'd use a magnetic tray to collect an HOLD all screws you remove. The thing I notice most often is you put the removed screws in vulnerable places. And you drop/lose a few. Why not get a mag tray, they hold screws great at any angle?
He use to have one and used it often.
I guess the "kool" wore off of it.. 😅
Curtis is a great technician but sometimes like most of us, he can be stubborn!
I used to get those for free from Harbor Freight... I have about 8 of them about the garage and house. LOL!
Probably because he left that magnetic tray in an attic😂
Mr what is your aplication to cek troble shooting HVAC.?
Had the same issue. Ended up being evap coil plugged. Low suction, low head, high sup nornal sub
It would be fine for a few hrs and satisfy but would freeze up. Bc it was a comm system it would lower the blower speed and not ramp up. Hope you figured it out
The short cycling is probably due to a freeze stat?
Use analog VOM to catch voltage spikes.
👍
what about the iced up coils.. wont uR pressure / tempts be off ??
PSC all the way .
Gator clips would be nice on the leads instead of holding them there by hand
Any opinions here on soft start devices? I'm thinking of one so I can run it with my 9000 watt portable generator? Locked and run: 112 amps/18 amps.
Thanks, great videos.
You need something to increase the current not something to lower it.
I have been installing the Microair EasyStarts, and so far have been very impressed. I even put them on my own office and house for the same reason as you. On my 5 Ton it lowered the inrush from 147.5 Amps to 34 Amps. When it kicked on, I never even heard my generator lag. We started purchasing them from on online vendor because they're selling them cheaper than I can get them from the wholesale house.
Hard start kits are better!
@@bobboscarato1313 I'm curious as to your position on that. I mean, they are for two completely different purposes. There's the old traditional hard start cap, then there's the addition of a 521 Potential Relay, which takes the hard start out of the circuit once the back flow is read, and then there are Easy or Soft Starts that ramp up slowly. These are shown to not only extend compressor life, but make it easier to start on generator. The one I mentioned was using >100 amps inrush with a hard start and just over 30 with a soft start. If we have a new system, in warranty that is tight as we say, then the factory spec hard start is warranted. If we have a 20 year old unit that is dying, a good old 521 and hard start might get a few more years of out it, but a soft start is not about spinning off a tight unit. When watching on a spectrum analyzer we can see that, a hard start doesn't take less energy to fire off the compressor, it just reduces that amount of time the extra amps are needed. Curious to hear your thoughts.
I'm thinking of putting a soft start on my 4 year old 3.5 ton American Standard. Mostly for longer life and to run with generator. I live in treasure Coast Florida. Will that cancel the warranty? Thanks for answering.
you need to zero out your low pressure probe
cut that leaf
30-45 seconds to diagnose.
Any longer and i would absolutely not hire someone for residential service.
Calm down super tech.
@richardbaugh8845
Not attempting to insult anyone. I think his Chanel is awesome. But yeah, maybe I am old school (or just old) lol
If all you are doing is residential then yeah, 30-45 seconds.
@shawnm5641 Every old Tech i meets says that, and they all suck😂 seriously😂I am doing 6-8 calls a day. The old guy does 4 and thinks he is some kind of master tech 😂
@JacobsNews lol... good one. As I said before, I am not trying to insult anybody. I'm 53 and given a close proximity for service calls and repairs. I do as many as 14 a day. Same thing with evaporator coill replacements. And complete change outs when we're busy.We do a minimum of four. You have to remember this is houston texas And the surrounding areas where i'm working at You have to make your money. While you can.
Those x13 motors are crap.
