- Do You Know What It Means To Be Loved By Death? So much happens at the Theatre des Vampires. AMC's Interview with the Vampire Episode 9 (Season 2 Episode 2) can't possibly include it all....or can it??

“Santiago has made ‘fetch’ happen” 💀
Re: vampires having hobbies: My justification is that any serious THEATRE actor would say that acting is not a mere *hobby*. It is a profession, it is a sacred duty, it is a *calling*. ;D
And photography is for dweeb tourists, obviously.
I think the change with Santiago saying “any one of your neighbours would give you up in a wink” was foreshadowing as he soon after winks towards Louis (and Claudia)
I think the scene where Daniel lectures real Rasheed might have been a pot shot at the fans who complained about Daniel wearing gloves. Like the message was "FINE, HE WON'T WEAR GLOVES WHILE HANDLING HISTORICAL DOCUMENTS ANYMORE! ARE YOU HAPPY NOW?"
yeah it was obviously a joke
It's also wrong again. 🤦
Best practices for historical documents is not to wear gloves with manuscripts, books, and newsprint because the diminished tactile sensation makes you more likely to accidentally rip the paper, which is more damaging in the long term than the minimal amount of oil transfered from clean, dry hands.
But you *should* wear gloves to handle photographs because the paper is thicker, and skin oils are more reactive with the chemicals contained in those materials.
@Julandran When I went to Tulane University last fall to read Anne Rice's diaries in their special collections, the librarian told me the exact same thing when I asked him, shouldn't I be wearing gloves? He said no gloves for the dairies, but yes gloves for the photographs.
This reveal unironically made my husband happy 😂📚
I half expected Santiago to bust out with Willkommen from Cabaret, and really enjoyed the performance.
I was thinking more of the Dada art movement and Dali/Picasso cubism minimalism ..beatnic/avant gaurd will be next
To me, the change of "Would you give someone up to trade places with you" seemed to be related to the post war and KNOWING that people actually did give their neighbourgs and friends up to the nazis. But maybe it´s more grimdark, idk
Yes, I 2nd this: it makes sense in the context of post-WWII.
I was really hoping someone would discuss the fact that the banker in charge of Lestats account mentioned that he could be "sleeping" signaling that he knew he was a vampire, as well as the bank being named after the dude Lestat entrusted his wealth to and who oversaw the theaters expenses for Nikki in his absence. As well as Louis meeting with this banker at night which would not be normal operating hours, perhaps the client he was supposedly meeting with in 20 minutes was also a vampire? Thanks for a great video as always! Can't wait for the next❤ I've yet to read anything past tvl and you have inspired me to keep reading!
I like the TV version of Santiago far better than the movie version.
I dont think anyone thinks the theatre vampires are justified in their cruelty. It actually feels realistic that Annika would pick someone else. Most people are for themselves.
Same. And she clearly doesn't want too and feels bad but she also wants to get back to her husband and kids.
On this note, why was it kinda lacking? I mean it was effective and terrifying. However, I wonder why AMC is shying away from nudity and depicting sex. I find it makes the world kinda lacking
Only because of decades of right wing individualist propaganda they're in for themselves.
@@freddyjafar1490 Hmm. I didn't think about that. I'm not someone who seeks out a bunch of nudity and sex so that didn't really bother me or stick out to me. Maybe they want to ease audiences in? Or they're trying to appeal to more people. It's something to think about now.
@freddyjafar1490 In the screener version of episode 2 I saw, the lady on stage had her top ripped off and her breasts exposed as she died. The final version of the episode added in CGI hair to cover her breasts.
AMC is network television and has to adhere to certain network rules in order to fulfill its contracts with its advertisers. If they broke those rules and showed more nudity/sex than allowed, their advertisers would pull their sponsorship, and they'd lose money.
I honestly read the scene between Louis and Armand at the mansion as they were so enraptured by each other that nothing else registered. They are really pushing the love story between Louis and Armand in this episode, even from the very first moment they met. I honestly like this change, the quiet pining and barely hidden desire. Loads of sexual tension, that feels very real and visceral.
I think it's better to not show them jumping to the statues. Stuff like that always looks silly, even with high budgets
In the TV show, Louis’ sister had Louis declared dead before the family moved north. It’s possible that he can’t access the money because his family took it.
That's what I said 😂
and also, aren't he and Claudia under suspicion about the important people who went into their home and were never seen again at the end of episode 7? NOBODY who CAN wire them money is gonna be WILLING to risk being an accomplice to two Black people's "crimes" in 1945😭
She also refused to take his money when she met him in the graveyard. Unlikely they took it.
This was a great epsiode. Ben Daniels as Santiago is amazing. He scared me and I loved it. Oh, yes. Monsieur Vampire, take me! Ben Daniels is beautiful.
I thought that Louis couldn’t have access to his money, was because her sister declared him dead
n the book, Louis's sister declares him dead after the plantation burns down when he's only been a vampire for 3 years, but that never stops him from having any access to his money. He'd willed the estate to a "god child" with the same name as him, so he kept everything. Show Louis is definitely smart enough to do the same. The only thing he lost in that scene in the cemetery was his last lingering connection to his mortal family.
Also, I think most of the money comes from Lestat in this universe. So, no Lestat, no money.
@@NicoleM_radiantbabyno… Louis was rich before Lestat. And also he later owned the Azalea…. Which he made a point to say in ep 2 of season 1 that he made so much money to be able to retire and live like a pharaoh 10x over….
@@remholloway2579 He wasnt rich before lestat. They made it clear they put the businesses in Lestats name because he was white and Lestat had the capital. His family's sugar plantation was literally failing so he was pimping before lestat. Its a huge plot point in the first episode. Louis was giving them money, and pimped to be able to send his sister on honey moon... "as steerage". Its entirely possible once they disowned him the plantation failed and that's why they moved. This isnt the book. He wasnt rich here.
@@MavenoftheEventide Louis family is poor in this series. They HAD money, but it was gone. The plantation was failing, thats why louis was pimping in the worst parts of New Orleans. He was giving his family money to survive by first pimping then later running the house Lestat put in his name that was bought with Lestats capital. he had to pimp to send his sister on a honey moon "steerage". Its safe to assume when he stopped supporting them the plantation failed, and thats why they moved north.
I'm starting to question if Louis knows that Armand had smth to do with Claudia's death, or if Armand just prevents him from remembering and Louis will remember later in the season
what if Amand is hiding the fact that maybe Claudia killed the Vamp who SAed her- Bruce ........and not Lestat /surely they know he didn't have the true death .......................and Louis betrayed Claudia by letting that information slip by not shielding that killing .....................what were in her diary pages that were torn out ........is this going to turn into a revelation for Louis like a memory intervention
In the book, Louis knew all along that Armand was the one who was responsible for her death, and it didn't change how he stayed with Armand for years later. Once he got his revenge on the theatre, all the passion in him died, so he didn't really care anymore about anything Armand did.
@@MavenoftheEventide But dosnt Armand reveal a bunch of his brutality in The Vampire Armand Louis never got while with him? Like the removal of Claudias head... Revealing he was glad she was burnt so badly because Louis was never able to find out what /he/ did to her specifically. I imagine, since theyve said they are taking all books intto consideration and adjusting to fit the series as a whole, thats all going to come as one revelation. I honestly get annoyed with Rice's constant retcons and rewriting of history. I could understand with IWAV and AVL and memory and stuff, but after that it just becomes a "whats the point, wait till the series is finished and get a summery" type of thing. Out of 100 casual Interview fans, %100 will have seen the movie, %80 will have read the first book, %60 will have made it to QotD and almost nobody sticks around to even make it to TVA... and this is made for general audiences who probably have just seen the movie and know its a book.
My interpretation of the Daniel Telenovela scene is that of some gay shade, delighting in the messy drama of dating of sharing exes, something that happens often in localized queer communities where there simply arent as many potential partners to chose from. And that that mirrors the slim pickings amongst vampires as a sutcultural group as well. It felt like a lighthearted and campy moment where three queer men are being catty and ribbing one another.
About the money thing it was clear to me that Louis and Claudia aren't accessing money because they know Lestat isn't dead, the same way Claudia is mad Louis didn't burn him so he may be back. In the books they spend like they always do because they think Lestat is dead so he can't track their spending, but in the show they know he's not so he may be able to track their withdrawals in France.
I wonder if Louis isn’t accessing his money because Lestat could potentially track him through it.
same. i didn't even question it, because i concluded they did it as a precaution because lestat wasn't burnt
Same thought
He's probably already in Paris but he's "hiding"
Exactly. Even though, realistically, wherever could our lovely duo go? Lestat's likely knew exactly where they could go and where they'd land. So why suffer if Lestat would know anyways?
@leticiamv If they're sticking to the books, then Lestat IS already in Paris, but not hiding. Armand has him locked up n a dungeon and is starving and torturing him.
I thought Louie was appalled by the stage antics rather than turned on
Yeah, he seemed kinda repulsed, like hes above cruelty to humans just to feed. I mean, hes triggered Santiago by sleeping during his next performance
He was. Maven hates the show lol.
That's what she said though. She was just saying, that he was turned on by Armand in the book.
Btw. it's Louis.
I really loved this episode. How it was shot and the score. It felt very atmospheric.
My theory about her picking a replacement to die instead of her was low-key clumsy foreshadowing for when the vampires turn on Louis. But thats my guess.
I can't help but wonder if Daniel is deliberately poking at Louis and Armand either as a fear reaction or a sort of suicidal ideation. Like, if he's gonna die anyway, being killed may be better than wasting away from Parkinsons.
Thank you Maven for the deep dive into the books. I read some of the Chronicle as a pre-teen and can hardly remember them now. Your breakdown of the differences in the books and show have inspired me to re-read some of the books . In interviews, Sam Reid talked about asking the director why Lestat was acting in a certain way...makes sense as you explain the book Lestat is different from the show Lestat. I am enjoying the show and think Asad is doing an amazing job as Armand. Can't wait to see his and Lestat's dynamic. And Daniel's reaction when they double-teamed him on Alice made me feel a real sense of the danger he is in.
What has me excited for Claudia being happy with the coven is that it will have an even more emotional impact when she & Madeline are killed. Claudia is becoming attached to these vampires so the idea of them suddenly cruelly turning on her would be devastating to witness. We already got a glimpse of her happiness quickly squashed when the old world vampire killed herself and she barely knew her.
I actually liked the theater scene even more than the film version & book simply because it is more cruel. It's obvious Santiago (or perhaps it's actually Armand doing it) is hypnotizing Annika & when the hypnosis is taken away it feels much darker.
I am not liking the messy way they are feeding but it is what it is. And the scene with Armand & Louis talking while the massacre is going on is fine but I didn't feel it was needed.
Louis' money was dried up due to prohibition and him owning a club that's main source of income was those drinking & remember he severed ties to everyone in New Orleans before the party so there's no one to get money from.
I still think Armand is controlling things, we've had a few moments where Louis catches his memories are not fully there and now we're seeing it from Daniel's side.
I do think it'll be revealed that Daniel is a member of the Talamasca and he'll basically serve as a David replacement. That's just a prediction
What do you think about the theory that Armand is actually Alice in the show? Personally, I never thought Armand was Alice. However, I did believe that some of Daniel's memories with Alice were actually with Armand. This episode confirmed that for me.
When Daniel talks about Alice, he seems completely detached, suggesting she was his first wife and they’ve been apart for decades. There’s no emotional connection anymore. In episode 2, when Louis tries to provoke him, Daniel brushes it off, highlighting the difference between his real memories with Alice and the ones with Armand in place of Alice. During the proposal discussion, Daniel is visibly shaken and emotional, which we didn't see earlier when Alice announced her pregnancy. This makes it clear he was actually with Armand, not Alice. Also, Daniel felt comfortable holding "Alice's" hand in Paris, hinting it was Armand, since why would holding a girl’s hand be uncomfortable or unsafe?
Louis and Armand are monsters who have killed innocent people, so Daniel doesn’t need to empathize with them. Louis even used Daniel’s Parkinson’s to harm him, so it’s unreasonable to expect Daniel to be more empathetic. Armand’s attempt to soften the blow of Louis’s memory shows he genuinely cares for Daniel. In the books, Armand coped with letting Daniel go by convincing himself that Daniel only wanted immortality. But Armand’s realization of Daniel's genuine love during the rejected proposal scene is significant. There’s a clear difference between Daniel’s memories of the real Alice and Armand-as-Alice. Armand’s comment about trust and Louis’s cover-up further suggest the complexity of their relationship. If there’s another Armand and Louis scene in the next episode, it’s going to be messy!
I think all that would be really really interesting, but I don't think any of it is true. I think Louis bringing up for Daniel a traumatic memory about Alice also triggered a totally different traumatic memory of Armand from 1973 after Armand "saved his life" from Louis.
Alice was indeed Daniel's first wife and the mother of his two daughters (we see he still has his daughters' old toys in his apartment in the first episode of season 1).
I don't think Daniel could have been involved with Armand (or any other vampires) between 1973 and 2022, otherwise he wouldn't have survived. He would have been driven to destruction. There's no amount of hypnosis that could have kept him from it.
I love your reviews. I'll admit I'm not as much of a fan of The Chronicles as you and therefore don't get these many details on the changes, nor do I analyse them with your depth. Which is precisely why I choose to watch all your videos on the first season, and then the episodes themselves. Doing it again this time around! 😁
Well, Louis did need to flee New Orleans quickly after the Mardi Gras "massacre." It probably wasn't possible to withdraw funds so soon. My theory is that he was able to access his funds upon his return to the states.
My question is why they keep having massacres when they are supposed to keep it on the down low, like the books. Or is that different now too?
Was that Puss in Boots comment about Armand's eyes a reference to Antonio Banderas who voiced Puss in Boots and played Armand in the movie?
Ha! I didn't even think of that!
Armand is just perpetually the 🥺emoji.... until he gets angry and his face starts melting off.
I took me a couple of sentences to realize that Annika (Anneke?), the victim in the play, was speaking Dutch (Flemish) 😂 Once I realized that was what they were going for I could understand it, but it had a héavy English accent 😂
Yeah I’m from Antwerp myself but it took me too long to realise she was speaking Dutch, it sounded like German to me initially 😅
Her name was Annika but Anneke totally would’ve been more appropriate for a Dutch name!
Love this version of this version, the changes of characters are both enjoyable and fresh. Love your comparison of the book and television version. All my friends and CZcamsrs enjoy this version. I can enjoy your comparison. Thanks ❤
I think I'm joining the Armand is Alice theory train because it makes no sense for Armand to know what Alice was thinking when she rejected Daniel unless he was there reading her mind. It was also strange to me that when Louis started his psychic attack Daniel corrected Louis about details he missed. I feel off about Alice because we've never seen her, not even in Daniel thoughts. We've only seen his memories of Louis and more specifically Armand.
is this whole season somehow setting up Armand and Louis as some Pseudo "Those who must be kept" because Louis seems like a kept prisoner ...Louis also seems partially mind wiped
Unless he was obsessed with daniel and followed him thru Paris(starting as a affair then stalker) and was reading Alices mind thru these events. The "she didnt trust you" could be because she realized he was gay and having an affair.
@@whatadollslife no Lestat mentioned them being in Greece in season 1
it'll be revealed in the last 2 episodes, trust me.
@@geminihexx9858 no I'm talking about current day Dubai 2022 Armand and Louis being the new royal vampire couple..locked up in the tower above the streets of Dubai ...thinking they are all powerful and choosing Daniel to scribe out their story .......this would become the tale of two interviews in a sense
Creole btw means anyone who was born in Louisiana while the French occupied it. It extends to not only the children of immigrants whose parents were from France, but also the Cajuns, African Americans, Islenos (Spanish speaking people who occupied Louisiana before the French), Germans, Italians, Irish, Native Americans. Anyone who was born in Louisiana while it was still a territory of France is Creole. And I don't think Louis would speak pure French. The story takes place during the 1910's. It makes sense why he spoke English. English was the language of business at that time. During the World Wars French would have been completely stigmatized because English speaking people didn't view it as "American". The only people who speak French today in Louisiana are in the rural parts. I'm Afro-Creole, and if Louis was to speak a language other than English, it would most likely be Louisiana Creole which was a language invented by African American slaves. If he received a formal education, then he should have knowledge of French, but I don't think he didn't.
@@VuotoPneumaNN Rich from selling land and running a brothel. I don't think you need to go to business school for that 😄
@@VuotoPneumaNNhe just lost the language skills, that happens even to first/second generation immigrants
I too picked up on the “Lost Boys” feeling during the motorcycle gang scenes.
Enjoying the show and your videos. My background is that I read the second book, and the original movie. Adaptations should stand on their own and I don't mind at all that it is a significantly different story. However, I feel the shows metaphors are trying to more universal and broadly humanistic in certain ways than it should be. The source materials themes are linked by what you might call "the fatigue of immortality." A fun exercise that asks us to go beyond the revulsion of predator and prey and imagine what it would mean to actually live thousands of years. The show seems to be dropping the ball here, at least to me. "The world changes, yet we do not." The idea that a vampire must reach out for a connection the world around them, or degrade into what Stephen Kings calls a "dull, moronic evil." The show does have a theme of connection, but it is a more traditional sense of outcast and belonging. Nothing bad about that, but it turns all the vampire stuff to just superficial spray paint on a traditional story.
“Tens of dollars” broke me 😂
Yes!!! Been waiting all day!!!
This video is just what I needed today. Thanks! :)
Always love watching the episode and then popping over to CZcams to see what you thought of it. :)
These videos brings me so much joy :D
I think Louie doesn’t have any access to his money due to his sister declaring him dead to protect the family, so I think his nieces and nephews are living lavishly in America 😭😂
Thank for this. Love your show
Did anyone else notice how Armand's expression changes as the story is being told about how they met? When he embraces Louis's hand, he quickly looks up at Daniel and then immediately looks down at the floor, almost as if he's sad or lying.
The Alice attack on Daniel seemed out of character for Louis. Did Armand make him do this ? I was surprised Armand didn’t stop him like he did when he asked about Claudia’s assault.
i would speculate some of louis' disdain for the theatre probably also comes from the standpoint of a black queer man living in the period - how many of those plays were being written from that pov?
It does kinda make sense that Claudia and Louis never learned how to dispose of bodies properly when they just always used the incinerator back home with Lestat. They were very very spoiled, kinda. (In that particular regard.) Lol
I LOVE your reviews ❤❤❤
Couldn't wait for this!
"Someone's been studying Strasberg" y spitted my drink hhahahahahhahah
Hey Maven. Good to see you again. Hope to see your movie reviews of Reinhart, Abigail and Voyage of the Demeter!
this show has exactly two more episodes of pretneding Armand isnt utterly unhinged before i riot.
18:52 - Even without the race/class differences changing things, it still makes sense that Louis might want to avoid painful reminders of his lost love or happiness and/or sidestep possible triggers for memories of Lestat(Louis' abuser), nevermind the possibility of both conflicting things warring together in his head/heart all at once, since the show is fully acknowledging how complicated/conflicting their relationship was.
I really enjoy you saying “Good Evening” even when your video drops at 3pm EST. :)
Your analyzes of the original material are super cool, scientific and in-depth, I even forget that I'm watching a review of the adaptation... I understand when you get so attached like that, that even the fact that they're on top of a monument is a problem, when doesn't need to have any fancy explanation other than they can and do want to be there, to chill...or having trouble understanding why Louis lost track of his money at that time...
As someone who doesn't have that level of attachment, I'm loving the path the show is taking, just the fact that they made Louis work for a tv series it's a win! lol
I really enjoy how you contrast the book with the show. More like a literally dive than just another review. :) It is something I can watch even if my feeling for the show is mixed. It’s always informative and fun!
I heard that 'vampires with hobbies' comment as more sarcastic versus actual condemnation lol. But maybe that was just me.
I thought the show had Louis ' sister declare him dead and inherited the money?!? You know after he broke down the door.... What was that scene in the cemetery about then?? The producers do this to trick us into rewatching 😂
In the book, Louis's sister declares him dead after the plantation burns down when he's only been a vampire for 3 years, but that never stops him from having any access to his money. He'd willed the estate to a "god child" with the same name as him, so he kept everything. The only thing he lost in that scene in the cemetery was his last lingering connection to his mortal family.
I'm really wondering how much of what we're seeing in this episode is actually true, or if it's a false memory manipulated by Armand... Something about how perfect or sickeningly sweet their whole meet-cute was felt off to me, and the way Louis was so forward while they were talking outside the mansion at the end, like he was remembering himself to be more confident than he actually was...I don't know, something just felt not quite right about it all.
I'm in the UK and can't watch any of these review videos until we get the second season 😩
Thanks!
Oh sweet Hecate I was looking forward to the theater!
Thank you for your epic niche knowledge 😉

I Saw It Yesterday Holy Moly The Mansion Scene Was WOW
Hi Maven, I just watched S2 e3, and I completely agree with you. It’s my favorite episode so far too. Bravo! I say to them! 🌹👏🏻👏🏻
1:18:58
Yeah, I ain't complaining.
If Claudia and Louis were pinching pennies and picking-pockets, it makes sense they would end up with a more humble apartment.
sataigo would be the best part anywhere love him
Thanks for your reviews. I always look forward to them. I'm sure it's partially intentional, but I feel no chemistry between Louis and Armand, and it's especially notable when Louis has scenes with Lestat. Honestly, I can't wait for that to be over. I like Daniel, but they lay on his snarkiness kinda thick at times, and it gets old. I like Claudia though. I also enjoy the scenes from the past way more than the present. Past Louis I like, current Louis no.
1:12:23 So i think this memory came on its own... Armand didn't catch it but louis did
Armand wasn't even paying attention but it LITERALLY stopped Louis mid sentence
I think Louis was still talking while Daniel was having the memory. Because Louis asks him what Alice said, then the next time Louis's talking, he says "For the third time, what did she say?" So the second time must have been while Daniel was having the memory. He was so caught up in that memory that he didn't even hear Louis ask the second time. So to him/the audience it seemed Louis stopped mid-sentence, but actually, he didn't.
Although about Louis's Mardi Gras coffee, could it be a reference to the Mardi Gras ball that Louis and Lestat threw in the season 1 finale?
That's absolutely the only thing I could think of, too. But even that is a stretch, since he wasn't the mind behind that ball. It was all Lestat, spurred on by Claudia. Louis just followed.
@@MavenoftheEventide that's very true. And also, eeee! Thank you for responding, I've been a fan for years 😀
47:16 - Santiago does walk up walls or something in the books though, and it is a common interpretation that this was a feat possibly aided by the cloud gift, since he was not described climbing them with his fingernails or anything-I thought? 🤔 🤔
I think you are remembering the 1994 movie when he walks upside down in the tunnel. He doesn't do that in the book.
@@MavenoftheEventide Hmm.... Could be. 🤷🤷♀️ 😊
I don't think the shopkeeper meant Madeleine was a Nazi, most likelly that she was a collaborator, presumably by making dresses/clothes for them.
@Maven How do you get to watch the episodes early? O.o
Jelly xo
The network sends the press screeners so that we can prepare reviews ahead of time.
why did the add the mention of Bruce twice in the show so far ?? does it mean anything ? does it change the possibilities ?
I❤This Show So!
26:15 - Honestly... I couldn't tell if it was supposed to be Louis, or Armand, or both pulling memories up in Daniel's head to punish him for interrupting their storytime or poking and prodding about things/details other than what they wanted him digging into about or whatever. Lol
17:29 - Just because Armand knows that Louis didn't ever even think twice about there actually being vampires doesn't necessarily mean that Armand has to believe that it wasn't obtuse or missing all the signs? Plus...I kinda feel Armand is just calling Louis a little dense/slow here? Lol
(Alternatively, he could know something from reading Louis' mind that he knows Louis is not admitting or in denial about.....or he could just be teasing Louis for lulz / to fluster Louis....or maybe he just sometimes chose not read Louis' mind even though he could have done so?)
13:55 - I think... there is a difference between wanting to make sure that _humans_ don't figure it out, versus actually trying to keep other *_vampires_* from doing so? 🤔😅😅 idkk
I like Daniel but he annoyed me this episode because why is he telling a black man what his experience was in a time period where he wasn’t even born yet Daniel wasn’t there and Daniel isn’t black so who is he to tell Louie his experience?
Don’t evildoers taste better in the show? I didn’t even heard the war profiteer line. And how are they not drenched in blood when they get back on their Vespas? Yeah, I was thinking French New Wave but Lost Boys is probably there too. :)
Goood Evening!
I'm stumbling around the time line a bit ...I thought in the books that after Paris the San Francisco events took place many years after ...but now all the action until this Dubai setting has to take place in Daniels natural lifetime which would rush Louis's recovery from the Paris disaster ......so was Louis able to get thru that in the compressed timeline or has some of his memory been stolen by Armand to keep him sane/from going rouge /feral ?? just puzzled
In the books, the Paris events take place in 1871, and the SF interview is in 1973.
In the show, Paris takes place in 1945-1948ish, but the SF interview is still 1973 (so Louis's had about 25 years to "recover"). Then the Dubai interview is 2022. So Daniel was about 20 years old in 1973, but he wouldn't have been alive during the Paris years in the 1940s, of course.
I'm being driven slightly mad by the fact that I can't Delainey Hayles's age.
Someone else might have mentioned it before, but my personal thoughts about the show using the word “ancient” for Armand.
While the Armand we know from the books would not be considered ancient, the show chose to portray him by a British actor whose parents immigrated from Bangladesh to England. I can’t help but wonder if l this decision came from choosing to change his place of origin and age, or if they plan to come up with a different backstory for him. Don’t know, just wondering.
they changed his ethnic origin and details of his backstory but not his vampire age... they already revealed his age in the show at the end of season 1 in Dubai. he literally says to Daniel he's 500-ish which is pretty much the same as he is in the books in present time... either way 500 is not considered ancient to vampires but I guess it's also a matter of perspective. it might seam ancient to Louis who's only little over century old lol
Question: Do the theater vampire in the books have to drink human blood every night? I remember in the scene with Armand and Louis when the theater troop is attacking the mansion that Armand says “You don’t feed on human blood every night?” or something like that. I just feel that whole group feeding on individual humans each night would leave a murder trail, unless they all just drink from one victim during the play each night? Does the troop not know they can also eat rats, etc?
In the books, all vampires have to drink blood every night until they get to be hundreds of years old (or otherwise super powerful, like Lestat post-QOTD). And actually, they not only have to drink blood, but have to KILL every night. They aren't strong enough to master the Little Drink, again, until they're extremely old or powerful.
When Louis was trying to live off animals, his was in absolute misery, and he wouldn't have been able to last long doing only that. That's why he went back to killing at least one human every single night after Claudia's arrival snapped him out of it.
In the book, he doesn't have time to drink any human blood the night he kills the revenant, so he's in a race to the sunrise to try to get some blood before he loses himself to madness, so that's why he grabs the rat out of the wall and eats it. He (and the other relatively young vampires, like those at the theatre) absolutely have to have blood every single night, or they shrivel into a skeletal husk (like Lestat does when he goes into the earth in Egypt before Marius rescues him).
As for the troop not knowing they can eat rats, most vampires would never WANT to eat rats when their only true source of pleasure in existence is human blood. In the books, it's often mentioned that cities of certain sizes can only support so many vampires, because of how they have to each kill one person every night. Paris is one of the biggest cities in the world, so it can support a coven of 15 vampires, but that's why they're not allowed to make any new vampires without the coven master's permission. They have to keep the population controlled.

So which modern theater company is this? 50:34 . Is it called 1927?
Yup! Just look up 1927 Theatre Company, and you'll find tons of stuff on it.
The show is very pretty, gotta give it that.
You need a bougainvillea bonsai. 😅😅 just saying Anne writes about Bougainvillea alot!

your reviews are so f'in great!
Daniel and Armand are getting closer, Armand is starting to like him and Daniel will reciprocate just in time to be sympathetic to Armand when we find just how far Armand has gone to get Louis.
I also think this was an episode written for Daniel to lash out enough(riled up by seeing 2 men playing happy couple ) that we understand Louis getting mad.
I firmly believe Daniel is in denial, they can tell he's gay.
Please please please check out Penny Dreadful at some point. It's old and was underrated but gives me iwtv vibes!
I watched it back when it aired! I really really liked parts of it, but really disliked other parts. I wonder how I'd feel about it on a rewatch...
👀
1:06:57 i fully understand how upsetting it is to hear Daniel make fun of this story, that we love, and that IS well written. But at the same time Daniel is a petty old bitch, feeling like shit for a whole lot of reasons, so i guess if he feels like he can make fun of the beings who are clearly in control of the situation, he will do it. He seems to be feeling worse day by day...
Oh AND its funny bc the fact that Armand, Lestat and louis have all been in a relationship with each others is just peak queer behavior! Everyone knows Everyone, and is linked to each other SOMEHOW 😂😂😂LOVE IT
Hang on.......🤔🤔🤔 Didn't the Eiffel Tower get that rotating spotlight in the 60s?
