End of turn 3, I am playing Germany and the Axis Powers. I have noticed Germany has to work it's way to the Russian Capital. I anticipated that Russia would not be a leisurely stroll but hard fought struggle. I was not able to destroy all the British Navy in the Atlantic because I lacked the numbers in ships and planes. In Africa, I captured Egypt with the German forces there and a Transport with units from France. Only two British inf. remain a threat in the south. I did leave France unprotected but recaptured it later. On the Eastern Front, the situation remains challenging. I've lost Scandinavia, Baltic States, and temporarily held the Caucasus. My units are thinned out with a few Italian Inf. helping out but so are his units. I take snap shots with my phone of where we left off on the board so I can reconstruct the game later for continued play.
Take Egypt one turn with bomber. Take out battleship with duel sub and fighter. Take Ukraine, east poland, Baltic, and karelia with the rest of your force. Its possible to take and hold karelia this way. I take the other sub and throw it at the destroyer in sea zone 6. It is extremely iffy but if successful it keeps that from joining the British fleet. Russia doesnt start the game in 1941 with any offensive units. So this opening typically creates a two turn buffer that frees Germany to create a navy to assist italy. Italy will eventually lose its navy to the British if Germany cant distract it. I typically build a carrier on the opening turn since germany already has plenty of fighters. Thers a good chance Britain will attack the carrier on its first turn along with the cruiser and transport. However even if they succeed they will have to deplete thier airforce making the battle of Britain a not so big deal after japan comes through and depletes thier production territories.
I lost the game. Germany did well in the opening moves but Russia was able to hit back hard. My opponent built mostly tanks and later bombers and this puzzled me since I built and used combined units to hit them. He was able to afford buying these units through out the game. Finally the fronts collapsed and Italy liberated my Capital twice. My Factory was bombed several times and I never was able to rebuild my forces since. I think I should of built a Factory In the Eastern Europe state nearby and had more Italian units help out on the Eastern front.
If you buy a carrier for Germany you can’t land planes already on the board on it until the following turn. Unless you purchase fighters the same turn as the carrier. So, uK will just sink the cruiser and carrier with 2 fighters and a bomber.
During the non-combat move phase you can move your fighters preemptively to a production seazone, if you place a carrier there during mobilization phase. A&A anniversary rulebook page 21, Section "Phase 5: Noncombat Move", header "Where Units can move": "A fighter may land in a sea zone that is adjacent to an industrial complex you own if you will be placing an aircraft carrier that you previously purchased in that zone."
Playing Germany, end of turn 6. I conquered the Russian border states of West Poland, Ukraine and the Baltic States. Economically behind but my Axis partners are becoming stronger.
"Maybe move a couple of infantry or something over in north afrika to try and make a stronger push over against Egypt. You do not have the forces to take it on the first turn." Makes me laugh because that's basicly what I did yesterday. Grabbed 1 tank and 1 infantry from France and did a amphibious assault on Egypt while attacking with all lybian forces and the bomber from Germany(landing back in Libya). Lost the 2 infantry and the artillery, but both tank and the bomber survived, taking Egypt turn 1. 1 less UK objective and 1 more Italian objective for the rest of the game. -7 UK, +5 Italy, +2 Germany Both tanks then proceded to blitzkrieg Afrika while the Italians in Lybia pushed in Transjordania on turn 3. -9 UK, +7 Italy, +7 Germany Dowside of this was that I could not use the bomber to sink the british battleship near Iceland, but that sorted itself out because because I sent the baltic navy out against that destroyer near denmark and the entire royal navy and air force went against it only to be done in by bad dice rolls turn 1. :D Lost all the subs, but the cruiser stayed there for 5 turns i believe, destroying planes every turn. That really let me concentrate on the soviet and would lead to the fall of moscow 9 hours later and london 3 hours after that.
Good question. I would say 1941, so long as you have enough time to play it. At some tournaments, they start in 1942 to save time and keep the matches flowing.
@@JonathanMeyer84 okay thanks. I did it solo haha. Im in online school so i spend all my free time on my board. I might start my axis and allies channel tommorow.
When the two subs attack the battleship in the North Atlantic the fighter from norway can attack it as well and land in norway.
Sweet. Glad you got to 41. It's quite a challenge to play Germany and Italy well in this one.
Very true.
I didn't think planes could attack subs unless there was a friendly destroyer also present

If you bring in the bomber from Germany, it is possible to take Egypt turn 1.
The more I think about it, the more I like that opening. I already use it regularly in 1942 Second Edition.

Brickbarian Did they revert to a much older rule set for this version?

Exactly. Thanks Henrik!
Wrong

I think I beat the world record for winning as allies in 1941 (6 turns).

Do you recommend 1941 or 1942? I juat finished a 1941 match but really enjoyed it.

It doesn't have a Black Sea fleet.
