Makita being a engineering company you'd think they would design a better rear discharge chute. Something that wasn't mentioned was the back flap has a gap at the bottom so you can mow without the discharge chute and the grass just blows straight out the back. If I was mowing thick grass like this I'd tie the back flap back so there is little more clearance for the clippings to eject but not so much so rocks or debris shoot at your legs.

These Makita 40V mowers are totally different to the 2x18V mowers. Even though battery wise it's the same power the new motors are way more powerful.
I had a Makita 464 2x18V and it was less powerful then my B&S petrol 625Ex engine, This new 40V dominates all over the petrol I had. I haven't been able to get it to bog at all.
    Plus it's half the weight.
I have a 800m2 corner block and buffalo grass and 2x 5AH batteries does it all, front, back and outside council strip.
The older Makita mowers have a poorly designed red bar to pull as it needs to much tension it hurts your hands after 5 minutes.
These new mowers have fixed this issue as well.
Nothing bad to say about it except for the price.

yeah Ego does the same stupid 90 degree bend discharge chute. Maybe Honda has a patent on the rear door as a rear discharge chute without bag or mulch mode? Seems an obviously better design. I have just bought one of these, and found that this machine does have plenty of torque, which is good, but then realised i don't actually need plenty of torque as i keep my lawn well manicured , i will mention the complaints i do have are the actual clipping catcher itself, it's a woven material contraption susceptible to rot, instead of a good solid plastic catcher. And the mulcher attachment is good for a putting green but not my place, which is a wee bit hilly in one corner and the attachment falls off every time after i go over a little bump.

In my experience it's usually the poor elderly or disabled people. Their house is pretty much the only thing of value they own and they can't afford extra care and can barely take care of themselves. They are one slip and fall away from being hospitalized put in a nursing home and then the government taking their house away for medicaid recovery so they hold on their house as long as possible and suffer through indignity after indignity.
We like to think that if that happens to use that we have younger family who can come help us but after a certain age people stop caring or die off. I know growing up, we had an elderly couple that lived across from us and one day the sweet old husband was hospitalized and never left. In that case, the neighbors would care for the couple's house, give his wife rides, etc. but that was a nice working class neighborhood and a luxury others don't have.
In this person's case though it looks like a nice house in a new neighborhood and she's young so I'm guessing they just bought the house and haven't got around to it.

I reside in Michigan. I'm debating on going with the Makita GML01PL with the two 8ah batteries. This only has 2800 rpm. I currently use a Honda HRX 217HYA 200cc with hydrostatic transmission. It cuts like a dream, and it sucks all my plant clippings up, leaves zero clumps etc etc. Like I've, vacuumed my lawn essentially. I also have large oaks and maples that drop basketball sized leaves in the fall that I use my Honda in the fall to suck them up or mulch them. Are there any issues with it or difficult to clean the underside carriage warranty repairs, etc? Did you buy this one or get something else?

You just demonstrated that, A- you are more intuitive that Makita‘s engineers and B- the people who designed it aren’t “way smarter than you” at all. I’ve seen one that had a homemade folded metal discharge that worked way better than the original. Sooo the question is who trusted aircon experts and went all the way to scaled manufacture without thorough field tests? These sorts of things always make me wary of how well the rest of the design was field tested.
