Final Cut Pro rolled out a new update that lets you create proxy-only versions of libraries, events, and projects.
So what?
Well, if you know FCPX, you know that external proxies are a big problem with the software. You have to make proxy files inside FCP, and if you move them, even on accident, you have to make them again. It's a real pain.
In this video, I show you how you can use this new feature to create and send a proxy library and footage to a remote editor using Dropbox or any other cloud service, without the major hassle of sending tens of GBs of original footage.
I did it myself when I was on vacation and needed to produce a Sunday service that was filmed after I'd already left town. It was fast, efficient, and frankly, wouldn't have worked any other way.

Thank you this is really helpful!
Very clear and really useful information
do you know if when i receive all proxies (from arri, red, sony) if they will relink once i get the original files?
without them having to make an fcpx file
You’ll need to share the same FCPX library file, but as long as the file names match the originals they will relink
The workflow would be shoot > proxy > send remote. They wouldn't have started working on it@@ProfitandPixels
You need to make the proxies in FCPX for this to work, so there will be a library file already. Set the proxies to be stored outside of the library for space and organization
Hmm, why would you do the library instead of the xml file?
So I have something to open… I don’t think you can open a project in FCPX without a Library but if so, tell me more.
