It will be awesome to have Dante AV AVIO.. to SDI and HDMI

I cannot consider a $2,000 hdmi decoder as a viable option for one channel of video. That’s $2,000 per tv to decode, that’s $16,000 to just use an 8 channel atem extreme 😳

Dante is tryin' to do what Newtek did years ago with NDI... I think there's no competition in here, I see NDI 5 years by now to be the legit new standard over SDI, maybe with a less compress signal and a lower latency at about 20ms 16ms to reach the 1frame latency, once achieved that it will become well accepted even by the broadcasting world. The most critical point in digital video trasmission over Ip is still related to latency, but with modern RUDP transmission I guess this will be improved year by year till the overall benefit of video over IP will overcome the latency issue.

If you want to maintain uncompressed 3G-SDI video quality, Dante's 1Gigabit Ethernet limit does not provide enough bandwidth. And since JPEG 2000 is a lossless codec, its ~50% compression ratio can at best only double the video capacity of a 1G Dante AV stream. With Dante AV, what you'll need to sacrifice is video resolution, quality, and/or frame rate. For multi-channel applications, since there are currently no Dante AV video switchers available, you will need to convert all streams back to SDI for processing in a standard video switcher. For most existing SDI-based installations, optical fiber is a far more practical upgrade, providing massive video channel expansion while supporting all 12G-SDI AV capabilities with inexpensive cabling and conversion equipment.

Thanks for covering this. I've been following this news. I'm not an expert but this seems as a video non-expert to be a big moment for churches. It opens the door to systems which are unobtrusive and which don't require a lot of volunteers. Having some PTZ cameras in combination with hand held is I presume worth considering for churches.

End of SDI .... this is yes/no. Yes ~ ST2110 is the solution to go for uncompressed audio and video. No. Dante AV is one of the solution for compressed audio and video. There is NDI as strong competitor of Dante AV. Today Dante AV still have a lot of limited of market share ... still don't have any integration of communication software such as zoom, Skype, meet and teams .... etc.

How different is this from NDI? Outside of the 4K 60 which is pretty awesome I have to admit. But yeah I have been using NDI from the beginning and I have to say NDI is pretty sweet and the protocol is free, yes we bough decoders to connect the hdmi to the TV but outside of that is pretty much free and I have to say it runs pretty smooth.

Why the Dante (or Audinate for that sake) enphasis on churches though?

Dante AV is far away from what NDI is and what it will be in the market... Audinate shall be aware of NDI in the audio market I guess actually 🤣 When NDI will introduce something like Dante controller and audio streams with same 1ms latency on hw it will be incredible!
