In today's video, I'm seeing if digitally cataloging your closet using a wardrobe app is worth it. I had Devon, the co-founder of the Indyx app, come over to help me and tell us all about why you should consider doing it! Honestly, I was NOT expecting the result. This is a brand new way to look at your wardrobe, and it's going to take shopping your own closet to the NEXT level.

Would you try this? I played with Indyx for HOURS after my wardrobe was catalogued, and it’s literally SO much fun creating outfits. Shopping your closet has literally been taken to the NEXT level! Let me know if you try Indyx! 🎉
I like Acloset better. It has a calendar, calculates cost per wear, breaks down how much of my closet I'm using and what colors dominate each category, generates outfit suggestions ... and it's free.
I've been using Pinterest to catalogue my wardrobe and create a wishlist (as a tab for the wardrobe board) for the past few years and I find it does help me keep track of what I have. I may not have the exact item (depending how current it is and where purchased as I op shop / thrift / buy secondhand for most things) but it's a good visual to remind me not to double up on items. I might give Indyx a look though, if it works for Australian brands.
More than a year ago, I tried multiple free apps, and at that time, I liked the most Closet app. It was best at removing backgrounds and giving a clear look, but still imperfect, Indyx may work better. I mostly wanted to track a cost per wear and have an unbiased view of what I was wearing. But I stopped updating it in June 😅
I've been wanting to digitize my wardrobe for ages but couldn't decide which app to use. I have downloaded Open Wardrobe but hadn't really got started.
I think I will give Indyx a go!
The lady Is not a content creator, as she speaks way too fast for a non-native speaker to follow 😂. I had to use lower speed to to miss a thing , as the info is very useful 🎉
Great idea. I have a similar system, except that my photos come from the websites I buy my clothes from. I can plan outfits, visually track how much I wear those pieces of clothes and learn from my choices.
I do this too! I try to get photos from the website when I buy something… but for older pieces or secondhand and thrifted items I’ll photograph them myself.
What is your system?
Same!
I do this too! I keep them all in a Word document. The problem is I can't make outfits like with Indyx. Still, it's very useful in knowing what I have and I can scroll through for outfit inspiration. I'm sure I would love Indyx but I simply don't have time to do the set up.
Smart Closet is also a good App… it’s the one I’ve been using for a few years. The reason I like that one is that it has a lot of editing functionality and you can actually crop and edit the photos you upload in the app to clean them up.
I have been using a digital wardrobe app for 2 years. It’s been transformative. I can enter a new piece that I’m considering adding to my wardrobe and see if I can make 6 outfits with it that I would realistically wear. If I can’t do that. I don’t buy it. I use it for outfit planning and tracking cost per wear, as well as trying to style things I don’t wear enough.
What app do you use to do this?
@@amytatum6858 I use the Acloset app
This could not have come at a better time! I am always scrolling shopping sites and I would rather “shop” my own closet and not spend money when I don’t have to!!! Thank you so much for this!!!!!!
It’s actually SO much fun! And creating outfits feels like a game. It’s so relaxing! Enjoy!
I have been using Stylebook since 2017. Cataloguing my closet has really helped me to hone my style, monitor cost for wear and help me to manage spending.
Likewise!
Me too, since 2014. It’s super valuable to take the time to catalogue everything, and track the cost per wear.
Is it free ?
Same here, Stylebook is great and yes its free 😊
I have just completed my catalogue. OMG!!! Mind-blowing!!!! I can see clearly all possibilities... Pieces which work together or not... Combinations never thought. Thank you so much!!!! You're all amazing.
Isn’t it SO fun! 🤩
I’ve been tracking my wardrobe for over 2 years with Closet app and I use the app many times a day. I am a bit surprised by the approach of taking pictures instead of downloading product photos that are generally available, as (1) the effort is quite enormous and (2) product photos are so much more neat than anything we can achieve at home.
Whenever I am thinking of buying something new, I add the product photo to my items and try to build a few looks with it, before I decide for the purchase. It’s also a good visual way of maintaining a wishlist, making it more real and incorporated to your actual wardrobe :)
I always input data for categories, colors, sizes, price and a season, which allows me to track cost per wear, quickly see how many items of each category I have, or hide non-seasonal clothing. I am also a big fan of using a packing function - whenever I go for vacation, I just select the looks and I get a full packing list so I don’t forget anything :)
I also think it’s a good idea to put in every item you own - in other words, every white T-shirt or every black blazer - as (1) you track the cost-per-wear, and (2) having a good overview makes you stop before you hit “Buy” on the next white T-shirt. I think it’s good to be completely honest with yourself.
And when I am thinking of decluttering some items, I simply make them into a collage and send that to my friends who can call dibs on any items before I give it to charity.
Using product photos is a great option! We particularly love the flat lay photos most eComm brands use these days. However, as you are uploading your entire closet for the first time, you might not be able to find existing product photos for all your items or it would actually take longer to search for them than to just take a good photo yourself.
I do the same this would be such an enormous task for me. I use Cladwell app and I have over 600 items. I know it seems insane. But today is -38 Celsius and in a week it will be -7 and two weeks ain’t was +10 so need I say more!
She sounds so out of breath? Maybe she is nervous or overwhelmed. She did a good job but I use product photos. I’ve been doing this 2-3 years also!
i thrift the majority of my wardrobe and a lot is vintage so it would be very hard to find the product photos compared to just taking a quick pic!
Thanks for all the ideas! 💡
I love this! I challenged myself to shop my closet this month and to wear and style pieces that I hadn't worn in forever. It ended up being so much fun and I came up with some great new outfits. Can't remember if it was Christina or another youtuber who said, "you don't need more clothes, you need more creative ideas."
Thats awesome! I have done this myself but in the app OpenWardrobe and it took quite a while. But totally worth it. I added a folder for decluttered items, so that it’s easier for me to see why i decluttered or if there is a noticeable pattern 😬🥰
Good idea!
Genius
Creating a decluttered folder is such a good idea! 👍👍 Ooo and you could even add the reason why you decluttered it in the description in case you forget! 👌
This is so so cool. I love how Clueless is really continuing to inspire tech like this, all the way from the 90s 😆While I'm not sure I'll actually go through the effort of downloading the app and digitizing my wardrobe (yet), I think the mantra 'styling over shopping' is genius and keeping it in mind will inspire me to take my outfits a step further this year. Love your channel Christina!
I ALREADY started using it took an hour or so to catalog 50 items. Today I will (hopefully) finish up. The fact that it is taking my focus off the endless scrolling/online shopping is a life changer already. I have been trying to shop my own closet this makes it sooooo much easier. I realized comfort and shape is THE most important to me. This will allow me to categorize my outfits to have ideas on hand when I am bloated/on my period to have outfits I KNOW feel good and look good without getting discouraged and feeling bad about my body when a pair of pants fits tighter than I want at that point of my cycle!!! My body has changed a LOT over the past few years. This will help me track the materials and shapes of the items I feel the best in and I can shop for my real self instead of my "dream" self.
I stayed up until 2AM cataloging my wardrobe after watching your video. What helpful tips and what an awesome app. Thank you so much for doing this and sharing it with us. I love your style and loved looking through your closet on the app. You rock. Janet
I started to do this cataloguing yesterday and was overwhelmed by the shear volume! I am a maximalist 😂💃🏽🤗. Seeing this video I have a renewed spirit… thank you for these tips! So helpful!!
Very cool! Cataloguing my wardrobe was one of my lockdown projects in spring 2020 (with the app Stylebook). It takes a lot of time to get set up, but I've kept up with it and find it so rewarding. My favorite feature is being able to track my cost-per-wear, which helps me make decisions about new things to bring into my wardrobe.
Same here 😊 During the #2020wehaveplenty era. I still use the app to this day, and it's been very helpful in styling my wardrobe and curbing excess clothes shopping.
How do you backup your Stylebook? The app doesn’t even show as an option on my iCloud backup and the tutorials from Stylebook are about 9 years old.
I did the exact same thing with this app during lockdown. It's been great.
@@other1emily477 the instructions are linked to in the app if you click on Help in the upper right hand corner. I've been using Stylebook for yearsssss and have gone through many, many phones in that time with no problems. I do wish they'd update the app, and maybe give us a way to export the data because I now have years and years' worth of data and it keeps me locked in the app that hasn't added any new features since I started using it. :/
I’m having the same issue as other1emily447. I love Stylebook otherwise but i am so worried I am going to lose all of my data one day so I am looking for a new alternative like the app here. However, if someone actually knows how to do it, I wouldn’t have to do everything over again!
i’ve never downloaded an app so fast - i’ve been cataloguing with a spreadsheet and this is way better than
Wow, loved her tips on how to photograph the items and how the app she designed works for inputs. ❤️👍 just downloaded the app onto my phone and iPad. Going to play with it later today.
Big thanks to both of you!!!
I’ve been using the Stylebook app every day for over 10 years and have hundreds of items catalogued. If possible I use the brand’s own photograph for quality. If I was starting again I’d probably use something else because it’s rarely updated and only available on iPhone and iPad. I’ve never lost the data (it’s backed up to iCloud) but I can never buy an android phone. I use the Fabric type field to record my date of purchase so I can search say everything I bought in 2023. If I’m looking at a dress in a store I can quickly remind myself what I already have and it has helped me walk away from things. It’s a big task to start but adding new items as you buy them is quick and easy.
I’ve been trying to backup my data for years but the tutorials they have don’t work. How do you do it? I’m so scared of losing my data! If my one device quits, it’s gone!
This is awesome. It's going to take me a million years with a going toddler but EVENTUALLY it will be amazing. So excited to try!
Everyone who loves clothes needs to do this (feeling a little smug i've been doing it for a few years diff app but love this one!) It's really helped my consumption and to stop excessive buying because i already have something i can use. Packing lists are brilliant! Thank you for sharing.
I have styleapp and Jesus, only in this house I have 520 clothes pieces and that s only clothes , I have clothes in 3 locations, I m going into a shopping ban like FOREVER
I’ve started this process and am amazed by how much value I’m getting from it! I feel like I’m finally starting to see the value or my wardrobe, what fits, what doesn’t, do I need duplicates, etc. Thank you for the inspiration to get started!
Really, fun video! You guys worked together in a really amazing way. I will be checking out the app. ❤
You cannot imagine how much I LOVE THIS!!!!!🤩
Exactly what I needed now! Thank you, perfect timing! I tried it immediately after I finished the video and it's very good.
Thanks for this Christina. I just downloaded the app and can't wait to start digitizing my wardrobe (and decluttering as I go). Great way to start the new year!
Wooow this is like the app of my dreams! Downloading it now. Thanks Christina and Devon! ❤
I know it is not exactly in line with the topic of this video but could you share more about your bag collection? There was a glimpe of it in the vlog and it looked really cool.
I'm SO excited for this, can't wait for my day off so that I can get started 🥳. Devon's tips were amazing. Thank you so much for the video Christina, I hope Indyx continues to grow and is super sucessful 🤘♥️
I love indyx and I’ve been slowly working going through the style workshop and just started cataloging my wardrobe this month!! loved this video and all the helpful tips for making your digital wardrobe look amazing
This video was full of so much VALUE! Amazing. Thank you so much 🙏🏻🌟
This is so cool!! You can scroll through your own clothes, feels like shopping
This concept looks amazing and the video makes it seem achievable!
I have already downloaded this jeanius app and I love it so far, thank you Christina for inspiring us
Lot’s of love 🧡 xx
This is so cool! I'm so happy for you Christina. I'm having a realization while watching this, that I have a number of clothes that I actually don't enjoy wearing, but because I'm on a weight loss journey, I refuse to buy anything new yet. I wasted a lot of money on clothes that are now too big for me. I'm not even sure I have enough in my current size that I like to even bother with this app. What a revelation.
Omgggg i had a similar idea that i wanted to bring to life i was discussing with a tech friend to see if i could “appify” this idea. I did this in the past to keep track of my wardrobe by taking pictures of individual items and combinations that i liked wearing to go to when im having a wardrobe writer’s block. Good stuff
This is fantastic! Downloading the app now....thanks for sharing this amazing service, app, and ideas!
I've been using Open Wardrobe for the past year or so and I've found it really helpful for knowing what I have and making goals (more secondhand/vintage, less fast fashion, cost-per-use). I also like the AI outfit suggestion feature.
So cool to see! I did this with the app "A closed" in november last year and I like it so much! It's so easy to have an overview, plan outfits ahead, plan vacation wardrobes... I also digitalised my sports clothes and formal dresses etc. But not the jewellery. I have over 200pieces🙈 but I love everything and I think I use most "regular" items. I will see over the seasons, if I really use all my clothes. ❤
Love this. Just downloaded the app. I can’t wait to start digitizing my wardrobe! ❤
This is so great! I've been wanting something like this!
Hi Christina! This is great! I have downloaded the app and started taking pictures of my clothing items! Can't wait to get them all in there! Thanks so much!
Great tips given on photographing your clothes
Thank you for the app referral! This is everything I've been looking for in a closet organization app! 💕
Lookin buff💪. Thanks for sharing your wellness content a while ago also. It's so important for women to build muscle, but no one told us that growing up. I was blessed to have a women's weight lifting club at my college, and they were super supportive of teaching beginners.
I'm so grateful for this app! Omg! I have had so much fun creating a capsule 333 wardrobe this week, and because I don't have a big wardrobe (that I also have to share with my husband) my plan is to catalog all my event and evening wear and store it under my bed so that I can save space, but also see it all on the app when I have a date night coming up to plan my outfit! Such an incredible tool 😍
😮 this looks like so much fun!!!!
This is such an amazing idea! Woah!! 😍😍😍
I CANNOT wait to try this!!!
Amazing and helpful, always forget some items in my closet now it's a game changer👍🔥Thank you very much for the video and the app👏👏👏
My friends and I have all been looking for a new closet app for a while now since Acloset announced they were introducing their paid subscriptions. The calendar is a must for me so once that feature comes around I might make the full switch. For now I'm excited to download and play around with it a bit. I tend to use stock photos for my virtual wardrobes and I have a dress form, so I take the pictures on that if I can't find a good stock photo. Never thought to lay my stuff out on the floor for pictures haha
WOW I like this idea so much!
I am loving your videos Christina!!
I downloaded a similar app for free in 2021 and I have been playing and tracking my cost per wear.
It was really eye opening to see what I spend money on and what I can't seem to get the cost per wear down.
Keep up the amazing work xx
love this idea. going to try it out!
oh cool, I was going to mention to you about using an app for your wardrobe because I had used a different app and found it SO useful for deciding what items to buy in a capsule wardrobe because it makes it so easy to see if the new item will work well with all the other pieces before purchasing, I loved it! So cool to see you do a vid on it, thanks💗
wow this is so cool! just downloaded it and cant wait to start uploading stuff to it!!
So this is amazing!!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you so much!!!! Exactly what I needed for the longest time. I have clothes scattered around the house in three different closets and suitcases which has been a nightmare for years. This app will help my anxiety and sanity!!
So excited to do this!
I think this will really help me with building my natural fiber only capsule wardrobe! I’m so glad you made this video
I love/need this and am seriously considering booking with you. I’ve been binge watching your channel and started a low buy for 2024 after realizing I have a shopping problem with clothes and makeup. Your content is so inspiring and helpful. On a side note, could you link your steamer? I need a good one. Thanks Christina!
Yes, please!
I'm going to do this. My wardrobe is out of control. CRAZY out of control! Great video!
I love this!!!
This is an amazing app!!! I am going to start my index today!!!
fantastic idea, I'm definitely going to try it out
Timely video! I had downloaded the app at your suggestion but not started cataloging yet!
Great idea 💡 i might try this before I start shopping again
Indyx looks so nice! Trying it out now. Been using Acloset for a little while and it has really changed my perception and organization of my wardrobe, esp getting me into new fits and actually using 100% of my wardrobe! V helpful
I have been using Acloset too and really liked it, but now they are about to introduce a paid plan if you have more than 100 items. And 100 items really is not much if you live in a 4 season environment and also count accessories and bags. Such a bummer.
I'm currently using Acloset too but have been thinking of switching to a different app. I kinda like the UI of Indyx so I might give it a try
@@happytofu5 ugh saw that paid update notification recently :( I'm at like 84 items (all seasons, accessories, shoes etc) and am using the 100 item free limit to keep my spending down & the wardrobe more curated. Def a nice tool for not buying everything in sight lol
@@b3naqua congrats! I tried to reduce my stuff, but I failed 😔
That’s so cool!! ❤❤
I have this app and LOVE it! Especially the collections feature--it helps me pack!
So thrilled to hear that you like the collections feature =)
This is so cool and definitely a fun project! I need a steamer. Any recommendations? Looking forward to shopping my closet 💕 🛍️
What a great idea 😊
You have so beautiful clothes that certainly look amazing on you. Would love to see you in the new outfits. 😊
omg this sounds so fun, already downloaded the app
Great idea!
I am going to try this ❤
I love this apps.trying it now and exploring. i alway take a picture all my bags and shoes collection. its a great way to use it for the clothes also. thanks Christina. xoxo Mona
this is really cool. Also it helps that now almost everything that I own I bought online so I don't need to take pictures of the items.
I love this idea and am currently taking pictures of my wardrobe and uploading them in Indyx as we speak! I like the idea of taking the picture myself, so I can see exactly what my clothes look like. I also have a good amount of gifted/thrifted pieces that I can't find online on a product page! This app will definitely replace my Google spreadsheet!
Nice . How did it turn out?
Excluding summer clothes that are currently packed away I just counted 103 items (plus shoes and accessories). I think I’ll give digitising it a go now as I feel like I don’t need to get any new clothes…but I always seem to look the same and I’m excited about something that will help me to mix it up. Thank you!!
love this! just downloaded the app
I love this. I will give it a go especially that it's -15 out. This also made me realise that I have quite a few duplicates that gives me pause.
The app Stylebook is what I‘ve been using now for more than 160 consecutive days!! I am not good at doing something regularly and also don‘t like spending money on apps but I have to admit: one of the best (app) purchases ever - no matter which App you use but it‘s so nice to have it to get a better overview of the items you own and think about new combinations etc - uploading everything at first is a lot of work if course but you can also just take okaish pics and don‘ crop them and adjust that later (which is what I did for some categories) - can only recommend ☺️
I have found Google lens a MASSIVE help when cataloguing my wardrobe. Because you can find the original white background pics for even really old pieces! I’ve been spending time cataloguing what I already have as a replacement to doom scrolling fast fashion sites and as a gratitude practice.
I started using a similar app for my wardrobe last year and this is a game changer! Now I have accepted that my most worn colour is black, the cost per wear for expensive and favourite clothes is quite low and I need to spend less on dupes. The app also shows my most/least worn clothes, which helps a lot with planning and conscious consumption 😎
Love how cost per wear is considered! Adding an existing outfit into a packing list is really cool too. I'm already using a similar app so I won't be doing all that all over again just for those features though
I use Acloset! I find it so helpful :)
I love this app so far: have added my 500 items already ☠️ but it's been awesome. I sew a ton of my stuff, so having the app use my own pics instead of online stuff is fabulous, since my stuff is one of a kind. ❤
i am just starting Indyx... deciding to do it in small batches by colour 😊
I am getting this for my husband! He has more clothes than me and wears a uniform to work! When we go out he either wears Adidas joggers, sweatshirt with jacket or body warmer - casual. Armani jeans, sweatshirt with jacket or body warmer - smart. I have told him to wear something different, but different to him is different t shirt or sweatshirt!!! Great informative video as slways Christina!
Cool idea, i love doing this in games like the Sims 4 haha going for pieces as similar as i can & save outfits ✌🏻
This is badass! I hope we can leverage all this data about the clothes we already own for good.
Downloaded! I wanna plan outfits mostly, but I’m hoping to see what I’m not really wearing and can declutter 😌
I am one of those crazy white shirt/tee people. Button ups…cotton or linen, long and short sleeve tees. I wear the tees as outside wear but also sleep in them. Getting my money’s worth. That’s my excuse for multiples ……and I’m sticking to it. 😁
That is so neat. I create outfits with what I have in may own closet. And that app would make it easy.
Just started using the App. Really good. I have a few items in and I’m already looking at mug clothes in a different way!😊
My wardrobe is not catalogue worthy. I'm in my late 40s and since my mid-40s I've been searching to find myself including my style, colours etc. I've been hiding behind black or grey clothes with a little bit of white and navy in the summer for way too long. A big weight loss and then weight gain has not helped me in my process. But I'm hoping I'll get there 🤞
I don't know whether I would ever want to catalogue my clothes but who knows. In the meantime, the tips for taking good pictures are brilliant for selling clothes second hand online. So thank you Christina 🙏😊🌺
Devon is so lovely! Christina, you look awesome in chocolate brown!😍
Ah I love this! I currently use the app Stylebook, but it doesn’t have all these features and pretty esthetic! Already downloaded!
I currently use the Smart Closet app and I am always on the app making new outfit ideas. If I am thinking of buying something I use the picture from the web and add it to the app to see if it will mix and match with my current wardrobe. If it doesn't fit then I don't buy. It has helped prevent me from mindlessly shopping.
I have the OpenWardrobe App and I like it a lot.
I did this for a 14nt cruise once just using photos on my phone. I'll have a look.
