  • Today I'm categorising and digitising my entire wardrobe! 👗🤓 I'm using the Whering app to catalogue all my clothes so it can suggest outfits for me (just like in Clueless!) AND give me some good good stats about how much of my wardrobe I'm actually wearing. Let's see how it does! And I'd love to know if you have your own tracking system for your clothes - let me know in the comments!

    I so appreciate the time you take to fully cover a topic. I know that means that video ideas take longer, but it’s so nice as a viewer. Some creators will split things up a little too much for various reasons and I love the “here’s this thing, now here’s my thoughts on it a month later” all in one video. This was a good one. 🎉

      @hannahk1306 Před rokem

      Yes same - it's so much easier to follow and much more engaging! I think some creators feel that they have to post things as soon as they've filmed them, but sometimes you get a better quality video by taking time over it.

    A useful thing to do to cycle clothes is to add them to your closet or drawer on one side after wearing them and washing them, and only picking your next clothes from the other side of the closet or drawer. Like you take out a garment from the right, wear it, wash it, and put it back on the LEFT side, and pick a fresh one from the right 💜

    I recently (I mean literally a week ago) began tracking my wardrobe on Notion. it's organized by brand, condition, thrifted/gifted, Price, and occasion/ temperature. when I get a day off from work I'm going to add the pictures of each item. my goal is to eventually, toss out/ replace certain items to keep my wardrobe and catalog of clothing up to date. I know it sounds a little strange, but this has helped me curate my own personal style and helps remind me to mend and repair what I have that I like, and as my personal style changes I can just sell or donate what's in good condition, that I'm not wearing.

      fourthing Acloset! i haven't fully finished cataloguing it or started using it daily yet but I really like its tagging system and how you can create custom collections(e.g. things to wear in really hot weather, things to take on vacation, special aesthetic/theme, etc.).
      The only thing I'm really missing is a "do these two items go together" function, where I could try them on together once, click "yes or no" and either see Item A as a suggestion whenever I wanna wear Item B or be reminded that I shouldn't even try them together, they do not work. That way, whenever I buy a new top I could try it with all my bottoms and see what I like/don't like and then never have to think about it again.

  • @thatjillgirl
    @thatjillgirl Před rokem +12

    I don't "track" my wardrobe particularly closely, but I DO cycle my clothes. Like, I have all my tops hanging up together (summer tops in the summer, then when it cools I put them away and hang the winter tops, then back to summer when it warms). When I go to wear one, I take the top that is hanging on the close end of the line. When I put them away, I hang them on the far end, so they're always cycling forward. But I do allow myself to skip a top if it's not good for that day or I'm not feeling it or whatever. If I keep skipping it and it stays on the end too long, I know that I don't actually like it/wear it and it may not be worth keeping. I do this for all my categories of clothes, storing them by category and cycling them through. I have whittled some stuff down a little bit this way by getting rid of things that were always getting skipped over, but the main thing it helps me with is encouraging me to actually wear most of my clothes instead of constantly favoring just a few outfits, so my cost per wear is a lot better.

And the app gets better at recognising things you wear regularly if you stick at it abit longer. It would be fun to do a follow up video in a few months with updated thoughts. Especially because the app says you have only used a small percent of your clothes, but that’s because you aren’t going to wear winter things anymore.

    i catalogued my wardrobe by hand at the start of this year and keep a tally next to each item every time i wear it so i LOVE this. it sounds mad as an idea, i know, but it's made me so much more aware of what i'm wearing, and has meant i'm much more consciously using all my clothes instead of just going for the same ones all the time... which in turn has made me love my wardrobe far more because i'm like "wait, haven't worn that in a while, gotta figure out how to use it more!" something about making sure none of the clothes have zero tally lines by them really scratches an itch in my brain!

    I started a few different attempts at different wardrobe statistics that all just fizzled out over time.
    What worked for me was putting all my worn or laundred clothes to one side of the rack. Over time I had a gradient of how often I wear things. I challenged myself to wear the least or unworn items and this helped me to a) resurrect old favourites and b) finally declutter what I never wore.
    Over two years I built a "wardrobe mindpalace" and now I organised my wardrobe by colour and hang most of it. At the beginning of a season I put all the hooks of the hangers in one direction and after wearing an item I turn the hook the other way. So I see what I haven't worn once. Now before my wardrobe turnover I aim to wear everything at least once.

I downloaded it to use for my kids’ wardrobes so I can see if something I’m considering buying would work with stuff they already have and/or is an item that fills a need. I created two accounts (one for each kid) and don’t use all the cool options you can track as they aren’t relevant/don’t work for kids stuff. It’s also been great to create look books of what clothes they are about to grow out of and which ones they are growing into. It doesn't give me recommendations in the same way Whering does, but it allows me to choose the categories I want to mix together, so Top, cardigan, bottoms & shoes or dress, jacket, boots. then It randomises 10 outfits that I can then pick one to edit to make an outfit. It also has a packing feature which can be so useful to avoid over packing. I go through phases of using it but my data's pretty up to scratch now.

    I actually downloaded the whering app a couple of weeks ago but never found the time to get started with cataloging everything. Hearing that it can be glichy makes me hesitate even more. I read a couple comments recommending the acloset app and maybe I'll look into the similarities and differences of the apps a bit more before deciding which app I want to put the time and energy into using it. But I do love the idea of having a closet app and tracking what you wear.

    I've been using this app for a couple of months now and really enjoyed getting the new outfit suggestions. Makes me feel way more excited about the clothes I already own! I also found it similar to you where I wish I hadn't added any accessories though, like my earrings for example are definitely a last minute decision rather than an outfit specific item.
    I don't know if you've explored the lookbooks too, but that's also been great for knowing I have outfits for most occasions. It stops me thinking 'Oh I need something new for this event', I can just go into my 'Dressy' lookbook and find an outfit I like there, it's like shopping in your own wardrobe 😂

    I started using Open Wardrobe about a month and a half ago and I really like it. I use it to create outfits and remind myself I don't need to buy more clothes. So far I've been tracking my outfits, but I know I'll probably stop doing that eventually. It's just helpful to be able to see all my clothes in one place and organize them by season.

Currently I have 133 items of which 33% is pre-loved and I wear 57% of my wardrobe (without having worn most of my summer clothes I'm waiting for a whole year to fully look at that stat).

  • @rribbonss
    @rribbonss Před rokem

    It amazes me how many varied outfits you wear in a month! I guess that’s a bonus of having your wardrobe be more organised. It’s winter where I am and I literally have two outfits and just wear random t-shirts underneath my jerseys since they will never be seen. I have a bunch of ordinary t-shirts (like 5-10), and I only like 3 of them and a few are old and either have holes or smell kinda funky. It’s so difficult to find high quality clothes that actually last for more than a year or two without getting holes. I have other clothes that I never really wear since my wardrobe is super disorganised, and most of them are messed up in some way cause I do not have the energy to repair things or deodorise them. I really need to do a proper wardrobe reorganisation so that I can wear clothes I actually like. But I think there’s a lot of things I need that will add up to being quite expensive in order to create a fully cohesive wardrobe :(

    I'm interested in the outfit creation element and just being able to see what clothes I own. However, I probably wouldn't bother with the daily tracking element for the same reason that I now only log my actual period days in my menstrual tracking app - it's just too much admin otherwise! Plus, like you, I tend to buy quality clothes that I wear for years and years, so things like the price per wear are irrelevant.
    Also, great tip about not putting absolutely every accessory into the app. Personally, I'd probably do tops, trousers, skirts dresses, cardigans, jumpers and some jackets/blazers. I probably also wouldn't bother with things that I have to wear or only wear for really specific reasons, such as uniforms or swimming costumes.
    It would have been good to see more of the outfit creation element. Can you tell the app the occasion/activity or weather for example? If I'm going out for dinner at a nice restaurant on a hot summer's day, then I don't want a thick winter jumper and jogging bottoms 😆

      My clothes are well organized in my closet, according to color and occasion, but I would never dream of planning outfits or tracking them! It's so interesting to me how this can appeal to some people and not at all to others. When an event is coming up or when I lay out my clothes for the next day for work, I literally look at my closet (which gives me a good overview) and pick out a combination I love or make a new combination I have not tried yet - 5 minutes, that's it. Seeing people who plan their outfits really fascinates me.

    Have you ever done the game of letting fate dress you for a week? You make lists of each category of clothes (tops, bottoms, jacket, accessories, shoes, etc.) and number each item. Then you get the kind of dice that have multiple sides. Roll the dice for each category, and wear the item of that number for your outfit, which can be a fresh take on your wardrobe, or a hot mess. 😅

As for the library (which I'm bringing up because it seems similar and I know people who catalogue their library) It's also mostly in my head and the time commitment of cataloging would too huge for me. As long as it's organized and I have a good overview that's enough for me.
