    Cruach Àrdrain and Beinn Tulaichean are the more central two Munros in the Crianlarich region.
    Join me on this day as I show my route from the northern side and discuss some unfinished business that I have in the region.
    Thank you for your continued support and I look forward to seeing you on the next one.

    Beautiful day, and thanks for the Beinn a'Chroin question, never knew about that controversy! I must say my favourite part of these two Munros is the wee farmshop hut on the way to the carpark southeast of Beinn Tulaichean where a delightful elderly gentleman sold me some very locally sourced venison filets. Worth coming back to the region just for that!

      Thanks Carrie, it was a brilliant day on the hills. I'll take them when I can get them.
      Yeah, apparently so. Better to find out about it before you come back down too I'd say.
      I've not been down that side but I can only imagine it'll be the freshest of venison from those parts. I might take a trip around that side and see if I can bag some myself.

    done these two hills both ways Brian and this is by far the best route! some lovely wee drone shots and those views were amazing. that snowy slope did look dodgy. never realised this about Beinn a chroin? been to the two points a few times and never realised that first cairn was higher! great wee film again mate, cheers. Cheers Paul, glad you liked the drone shots. It was a superb day for the hills though to be fair.
      Yeah, apparently so which means I'll need to head back up all for the sake of the second point, and 2m 😂
      I've still to sit down and watch your latest vlog but hopefully I'll get it done today.
      Thanks for watching 👍🏼

      Thanks Bear Paws, that's means a lot, thanks for the feedback as always and... tell your friends 😂
      It is a good route and a decent workout considering you need to come back over the majority of Cruach Ardrain.
      In answer to your other comment, I park at the big lay-by on the A82 just south of Crianlarich (What 3 Words = whiplash.astounded.count). It's a great big lay-by which has ground works at the northern side just now.
      I'll add my route to the description today hopefully and let you know when it's up.
      Again, I'm glad you liked this and let me know if you tackle the route yourself.

      Cheers Dave! I had a wee watch back to the trip and remembered how good a day it actually was and definitely a great couple of hills. The return back makes it just that wee bit cheekier than a circuit.
      Thanks for watching and I'm glad you liked it.

    Nice one Bry. Cracking day 😎 I actually did these roughly the same time last year with a wild camp. If I repeat Beinn a'Chroin I'll do the Top anaw, altho am regarding the 942m top as the actual Munro summit. 😉

    • @AScotsmanOutdoors
      @AScotsmanOutdoors  Před 2 lety

      Cheers Kev, it turned out to be a grand day.
      I'm holding the 942m summit as the Munro but my mind is niggling so I'll need to get the 940m too 🤦🏻‍♂️
      It looked like a good area for a wild camp pitches when I was there so that might be an idea to head up and make a night of it.
      Probably a good spot to see all the Munros around too.

  • @alexdachs9884
    @alexdachs9884 Před 2 lety +2

    Great timing these two are likely next on my hit list to complete the area…. On the subject of 940/942 call me old fashioned but I reckon the highest point should be regarded as the summit of any hill…

    • @AScotsmanOutdoors
      @AScotsmanOutdoors  Před 2 lety

      Cheers Alex, I hope you get a good day for them like I did. What way are you planning on tackling them? I felt the way I did it left a considerable walk back, either that or it just felt really long.
      I get that as the hill (Beinn a'Chroin) is fairly small and isolate that you would identify the highest peak as the Munro. I also see the argument about the Munro classification. The one I always think of when it comes to this is Stob na Doire on the centre of Buachaille Etive Mor. It's 1011m making it well within the Munro height range but as the drops on a number of sides aren't greater than 250m (anyone correct me if I'm wrong) then it becomes a Munro top and not a Munro.
      I think these debates have been raging for a while and a good discussion point.
      My question now is, did you get both?

    • @alexdachs9884
      @alexdachs9884 Před 2 lety +1

      @@AScotsmanOutdoors Cheers, fingers crossed as always. thankfully my route took me over both of them 😂 ..will you film your return trip to show the nae-sayers 😂? Aye that’s a good example, I’m certainly no expert on these matters, probably one for the pub the decide. I was thinking the same way you went, following up from grey height, but maybe retracting my steps for the return if the weather is keeping the views. Going from loch doine might make for a quicker walk

    • @AScotsmanOutdoors
      @AScotsmanOutdoors  Před 2 lety

      I think most people have bagged both points so this is all on me 😂
      Oh, I'll definitely be back up to bag the second point. There's no way I'll not get them all if I can help it.
      My route did have great views but it did also feel a good bit longer on the way back but I might just have been shattered too.
      I spoke to three different people who had came from the Loch Doine side that day and all said that they missed a turning and had to retrace some steps. They all also said it was a steep climb up, then again they wouldn't have to go back up and over Cruach Ardrain. Six and two threes I guess.
      You'll need to let me know how you get on and what route you chose.

    Beautiful drone work Bryan, love it. These 2 Munros were where we filmed our first vlog almost 2 years ago now. Cracking bunnet as well. Can I ask what size of pack you use for an overnight camping trip? Thanks, Alistair

    • @AScotsmanOutdoors
      @AScotsmanOutdoors  Před 2 lety

      Cheers Alastair, they were cracking Munros, if not a bit tough having to do the return over Cruach Ardrain again.
      I do like a bunnet myself but it is becoming a bit toasty for one the now, it'll be out on the colder walks.
      I use my Vango Sherpa 55/60L rucksack just now, mainly because all my list is so big but working on that. Slowly but surely the kit size is coming down so I'm hoping next year I'll be onto a 45/50L pack.
      For my wee day jaunts it's the 35L Groden that I use. I hope this helps. Are you off on any overnighters soon?

      @@AScotsmanOutdoors hoping to make use of the tent this year but still need to get a rucksack to carry it. My 30L won’t manage! We are just back from a week away where we hiked around Ullapool and then over to the Outer Hebrides for Cliseam, was stunning and would highly recommend it.

    • @AScotsmanOutdoors
      @AScotsmanOutdoors  Před 2 lety

      Yeah, it's an everlong task to get the right kit I've found. I've just changed my tent to drop almost 2kg in that department and looking to drop another one in the rucksack area next, if money were no object 😂
      I've always fancied the Hebridean Way so it'll be good to see what you got up to over there (I'm assuming there's a vlog?) There's so many amazing places around this wee land that I doubt we'll ever get bored.
      Where did you head around Ullapool?

      @HighlandHikers Před 2 lety

      @@AScotsmanOutdoors we hiked up Little Wyvis on the way to Ullapool and then did Am Faochagach followed by the Beinn Dearg circuit. Mostly did sightseeing on Lewis/Harris so will have videos for all of that over the next few weeks.
      I need to take a proper look at rucksacks now, it’s really the last thing I need.

  • @GusExplores
    @GusExplores Před 2 lety +2

    I thought they had remeasured the peaks and that's why it's easterly top that's the Munro because its now considered higher. Where ever the top is, consider it bagged though. There are too many people out there that will take achievements away from somone and it's just nasty. I had someone trolling me saying that because I bagged a few Munro's in the 1 trip it did not count as I was already up there.

    • @AScotsmanOutdoors
      @AScotsmanOutdoors  Před 2 lety +1

      I'm not sure when or if they have been re-measured and if they have then you've taught me something.
      That's absolute nonsense about a series of Munros not being counted because you're already up there. Are they saying that the Munros are only truly complete if you head back down and up each one. Utter nonsense.
      All that said, I'll be back up to grab the second peak because I'm not having nae-sayers pull the rug 😂
