  • A walk around the first part of our 1/5th of an acre plot, which started designing early in the 90s and has been changing ever since. It’s now predominantly a garden with a tropical feel to it these days. We’ve been opening the garden for the National Gardens Scheme for many years, we are not a business, just a charity open garden.

Your garden is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen - thank you for sharing your tour!
Did you plan each section of the garden?, or has it evolved over time? What about planting?, do you have a list of the plants you grow please? Maybe next time, you could name a few more of the plants as you go around🙂
Thank you again, you have created a really special place.

Thank you Julie, so pleased you enjoyed it. It was early/mid 90’s when I first started, near the house, and had a bare bones of a plan in my head, regarding layout. I envisaged it being broken down into smaller areas that one could make a journey around. Always liked curves, circles, generous borders and full lush planting, including big leaves, however, it started out as very ordinary planting because I had not gardened before. My desire to make it more and more tropical/exotic planting grew and grew over the last 11 years and I’m still working on some areas.
I’ve never been office minded, lists, paper plans etc never happened. I just go out and create pictures that I have in my mind’s eye. Sometimes it works, sometimes it evolves and gets there in the end.
For me to go out there and video, walk and talk I find difficult, this was first attempt. To go round naming plants would mean very long videos too, and a I would struggle to know which to name, there are so many 😁.
Thank you again for your wonderful comment, it’s so very encouraging.
      Best regards, Jenny.

Hi Jenny, your very creative person. I adore your work. You have quite a few plants you can not find easily. Where did you buy them?! Taking about species like Brassaiopsis or Oreopanax? Many thanks. Irena

Thank you Irena, we have collected even more Aralias since that video. We like to visit Cornwall, and also to go to some rare plant fairs, like the one at Tregrehan gardens, that’s a really good one. Also in the South west there are more plant nurseries with plants that are not available in other plants of the country. It’s worth a look on the Crug farm plants website, they usually attend the plant fair at Tregrehan, but are in North Wales and do mail order.

@@Secret-Garden-Louth68 dear Jen, thank you so much for the information. I wasn’t sure about the Farm Nursery, I find their website quite confusing. But now I am definitely going to check it.
