    Great review/comparison. First I want to say that I'm a low level rider. Protection is obviously the name of the game, but comfort and feel is REALLY important to me. I want/need to be able to feel the pegs and controls, and to be comfortable. Maybe if I was a high-level rider, I wouldn't be so concerned with comfort and feel. I recently tried the Instinct, and I loved them, and I would also report that they are true to size. My current boot is a Alpinestars Tech 5, which I am happy with, but I could tell that I would be REALLY happy with the Instinct. I've heard bad reports of people repeatedly breaking buckles and straps on the Instinct, so good to hear that your experience has been good in that regard.

    No contest here IMO. Sidi Atojo is a great boot! Pretty good for guys with wide feet. BTW, an even more comfortable boot for guys with wide feet is the Tech 7. I ride trails, very little track. The grip on the bike with my Atojo is great!
    Gotta be honest, I’m kinda hating on Fox. I’ve been very disappointed in the durability of their gear in the past few seasons so I’ve moved away from the brand entirely.

    I injured my achillies this early Spring and didn't know that I had until a month later when I dabbed hard on a rock shelf and only my toe edge got support, my ankle hyper flexed rupturing that already damaged achillies. Guess what I was wearing and ADV boot on a black single track, idiot. I did tons of covid quarantine research and wanted crossfire BUT though my foot felt a little squished I couldn't get past the fact that I couldn't close it around my calf! I had ranked the Instinct kinda like 4th choice but it was the only one available that fit my feet n calf. I have been riding with the Instinct on multi-day adv as well as hard true single track and they are comfortable and feel very well protected. Love the heel fit and the peg feel. Agree with the buckle comments and occasionally the lower buckle outside my pants gets caught and pulled open but they always work well. I would definitely buy again. Those ADV boots.... they live in camp with the quad now... never again on the bikes the Instinct is plenty comfy even walking around.

    Hi Chase, I've just bought another pair of Instincts(fluo ones),its already my 4th pair and despite a lot of guys hate them and never buy them again because of quality comper to sg12 for example.In my opinion Instinct are the top mx boots if you're looking for the best fit and feeling on the pegs.I still love their design also.Personally recomend them.

      Hi Michal. Yes, the Instinct won't last as long as an SG12, but I really like the Instinct. Like you, the fit and peg feel are soooo good. - Chase

    I don't know what's going on with these guys and Sidi, but they obviously don't want you to buy them. Chase tells you to buy every other boot. I'm ordering some Atojos from BTO Sports instead.

    Chase- What would be a good fit for guy about 5’6 and abnormally large calves, I’ve been fighting this for years because every boot, on the top couple inches hits my calf, so there’s a large gap in the back part of the boot from my calf to ankle, what boot is either short enough below the calf or a good fit for the type of leg stature?

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  Před 3 lety

      Lucas, the SG12 has the largest calf opening and the shin plate is adjustable too. How big are your calves? Mine are 16" without a knee brace. - Chase

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  Před 3 lety

      Hi Ronnie. I can't give you an exact number as far as ride days. And I have to be totally honest, I have a lot of boots so I don't wear the same pair every time I ride. However, before I started working at Rocky Mountain, I only had one pair of instincts and I got a full season out them just fine. Yes, the instincts aren't as well made as an SG12 or maybe a Tech 10, but my experience with them has been fine. I've never had a buckle break or soles fall apart. Only thing I can think of is one pair I had the stitching blew out on the shin. But that was after having the boots for a full year. - Chase
