      @@JeffPelletier I'm from Slovenia, a really small country between Croatia, Austria, Italy and Hungary 😊
      That's great! It depends on what your needs are but, living near or in the Alpine regions really is a good choice for trail runners. There is 8 countries with Alps, each with trails and races of various difficulties, available literally throughout the entire year, a lot of them being ITRA certified and UTMB qualifiers. (tip: make sure you always bring your ID/passport in case you (literally) run into another country 😄)
      Swiss, Italian and French Alps are simply incredible. Matterhorn, Chamonix, Dolomites, Eiger..the list goes on.
      Norway and Scotland are a nice change of scenery and weather, also amazing terrain in Europe for runners 😊
      If you ever come across Slovenia, I'd suggest the part called "Gorenjska", so the Triglav national park for running in particular, then the Soča river, lake Bohinj, Tolmin, Bled & Olimia spa for recovery 😊 There was supposed to be a race this September called Julian Alps Trail Run in Kranjska Gora but it got cancelled due to covid, unfortunate but understandable.
      Take care! Happy running ✌

    Uhh, isn't the method everyone teaches is live high and train low? This lets you maximize your training load and adapts your body to altitude? Edit: I say this as the guy with a LOT less fitness than Kevin and will never be as good as him. Thanks for posting the video Jeff.

    • @JeffPelletier
      @JeffPelletier  Před 3 lety

      The ‘train low’ part usually applies to intensity or speed work. It’s difficult to maximize your turnover, for example, if you live at 10,000 feet, so athletes will commonly go low for key workouts and do the rest of their training volume higher up where they live.
      But when it comes to training for an ultra like Hardrock, part of what you’re trying to do is to simulate the elevation you’ll be racing at during your training. Unfortunately, sleeping high as well doesn’t allow your body to properly recover at night since it’s always ‘working’. This can lead to poorly performance during training and racing because you’ve effectively been ‘over training’.

      I’d recommend fastpacking the course over 3-4 days. They call it ‘Softrock’, and you can stay in hotels along the way 😎.
      With the luck I’ve had in the lottery so far, that might be the closest I’ll ever get to running the whole course!
