Installing Bigger Tires + New Wheels on my 2022 Silverado ZR2 | Do they fit?

  • GM chose to install small tires on the Silverado ZR2. I swap on new wheels and 35" tires to fix that! But do they even fit? Wheel offset might be a little too aggressive lol.

    GM should have used the same strategy as they did on the Colorado, plus some. It doesn't have to be supercharged, but dang at least make it more unique and aggressive from all angles. Wider, more travel, 35in tires, maybe even a diesel engine option. Either way, nice rig.👍

    GM did not drop the ball. They built a truck to fill a niche! You bought it! Your big problem here is the offset and how it pushes the tire out which causes a wider, longer arc to clear everything. If they supercharged it and made it a direct competitor of the TRX and Raptor, they shove it into a market that will be saturated if research hasn’t already shown it to be saturated. Yes they can’t keep up with orders currently, but that has so much more to do with the chip shortage and production capabilities vs demand. Before things hit the fan, back in 2019 I bought my last Raptor for $10,000 under the MSRP! The trucks were not selling out in the year they were produced for and the TRX didn’t exist. Fords production was exceeding the market on their own as a competitor and market of one truck!! When things settle, there could be issues for the TRX and the Raptor, GM has a massive market analysis team and I’m sure they did this truck for the simple fact it is currently in a niche where they are the only full size trucks (ZR2 and AT4X) with both front and rear lockers. A niche of one!! 33s as a stock tire are decent sized tires. I have never watched your channel so I don’t know if you take the truck out to off-road scenarios that actually push the limits. If not, then the 35s are all for appearance anyways.
    I have a F150 Tremor and will use it to 75 or 80% if it’s capabilities which aren’t quite as high as the Silverado ZR2. I have no need to go to a larger tire personally. I have built some extreme trucks, but now that my back is totalled (so to speak) I have no need and have built a couple of nice 2wd trucks and several cars. After selling off 6 of them recently I’m now down to an even dozen. They all get driven quite regularly!!

    • @matt13ross
      @matt13ross  Před 2 lety +1

    Matt, GM is sending you a message and you aint getting it. So let me spell it out for you. ZR2 & AT4X are not competing against the Ram TRX and Ford Raptor. ZR2 is competing against the Ram Rebel and Ford Tremor. A 35 inch wheel adds an inch of ground clearance that 99.999999999999999999999999999999% GM buyers dont need. 35 inch wheels reduces gas milage when gas is $5 a gallon. Increases stopping distance and reduces acceleration.

They add front and rear lockers , big infotainment screens and add $15K MSRP and cant keep them on the lot. Plus they add shitty AFM lifters and the 6.2L engine will never ever last as long as the Raptor engine. Raptor holds its value and has proven itself. Fools are lined up to buy the ZR2 & AT4X. That’s your opinion. I run 35s on a Jeep JLU with 2” lift, because I have zero interest in a stupidly high center of gravity like some of the tools running show truck lifts. As a result, the 35s are plenty big for a purpose built truck/Jeep. My Colorado ZR2 runs on 33s with only a front level, because the DSSV shocks are sensitive to geometry changes. The 33s look big on a mid-size truck. Only rigs that really justify 37s are rock crawlers or heavy-duty trucks to keep with body proportions.
