Ichiro was a ballbuster in the clubhouse. Busting up poker games slurping loudly on noodles right next to the guys. A 5'9 Japanese smart ass that arguably was Ty Cobb reincarnated on the field, yet was Lou Gehrig off of it.
Now name the Trophy for the WBC after Ichiro Suzuki. He's largely responsible for the tournament to even exist.
I think the most mind blowing Ichiro stat is that he came to MLB at the age of 27 and STILL got 3,000 hits. That will probably never happen again.

I think two records that will stand for a really long time is his 262 hits in a season and ten straight seasons with over 200 Hits, it's Incredible ⚾️
A cursory look over the 3000 hit club, i believe Honus Wagner had the latest start at age 23. Most started between ages 19-21. So by the time most of the 3000 hit club had reached age 27, they already had 1000-1700 hits. Wagner had almost 800 by 27 It's mind boggling he reached 3000 at his late start.

エドガー。最も謙虚なプロフェッショナルで、引退してからも変わっていません。そして（人名。言葉にされていないようです）。あなたはフィールドでは鉄壁の守りであったし、クラブハウスでは鉄壁のサポートをしてくれました。そしてジェイミー。来てくれて嬉しいです。レフティーとしてはとてもクレバーな選手でした。そしてめちゃくちゃおしゃべりですね。初めて会った時、私のところにやってきて英語で30分も喋り倒しましたね。なんと言っていたのかちっともわかりませんでした。少し英語も上手にはなった今でも、あなたの言っていることはほとんどわかりません。それでも、49歳までプレイを続けたことを心から称賛しています。

Same here. I'm not a Mariners fan. I usually attended games at the Kingdome/Safeco rooting for the visiting team. But how can anyone not love Ichiro? When I first came to Japan and saw him play, I bought an Orix Blue Wave cap. I followed his career since then even though he later went to a west coast team other than my hometown's. Also, I was lucky enough to attend his final game here in Tokyo where he announced his retirement. This ceremony today is a pre-cursor to the inevitable enshrinement in Cooperstown a few years from now. Ichiro, arigato!

Major respect for this man from a die hard Red Sox fan. I’ve always been so impressed by him. Had he come over earlier than age 27 he’d be the all-time hit leader for sure.
He is....Pete Rose just won't admit it.
Ten straight 200 hit seasons, a record. Always a pleasure to watch this man hit, field, and run the bases. Was able to see him play in person several times. A tremendous example of how to play the game and how to live. I remember his chase for the all-time hits in a season record and when the classy Sisler family was there to congratulate him. And such a wonderful speech. He worked hard to deliver it in English and brought the house down. Again.
I will never ever give ichiro any advice, but I am gonna give you some advice, save that speech, you gonna need it in three years.

Respect is important in Japanese culture. He broke George Sisler's record for hits in a season and a few years after he broke the record, Ichiro visited the grave of George Sisler and placed flowers on his grave. Now that right there is class.

I'm also especially happy that we had Ichiro represent the Bronx for the time he was here. I know Seattle was the place that made him who he was, but I hope everyone in the northwest knows how much we loved him being here as much as we loved him being with all of you... and to you, it was most-definitely even more special. Yankees fans understand the scope of baseball history very well, Ichiro was here for a time, but we know he was more than his time here in the Bronx. He was more than his time in Seattle or Japan, he IS one of the best that baseball has ever seen, ever.

Ichiro was the reason that I wanted to play the game and also right field. I went on to play for 8 years and ofcourse I was never at Ichiro level he was a great inspiration for me. Thank you Ichiro for the impact you have left on so many people's lives.

I still remember the day when I first went to see Ichiro's game in Seattle...This is very amazing that he continues challenge himself in the states and encourage everyone all over the world. He really teaches us "never give up" . I am super proud of him and his efforts.
It’s was funny growing up I didn’t know anything about baseball because I was only into football. But I would always remember hearing this guys name everytime when the baseball highlights would be on ESPN. It’s crazy to see him now making his Hall of Fame speech! Legend!

I was so lucky that I watched many of his games in TV, when he played for Seattle and NY. One of the greatest players of all times.

It is an honor to stand here tonight. It’s also safer to stand here rather than go back and sit over there, because as you just saw in the video, Junior may have put glue on my chair. Of course you did. This must be Junior’s way of making me give you a speech. So, here we go.
Twenty-three years ago my life forever changed, when I became a Seattle Mariner. I am beyond grateful to this organization and this city. Thank you Howard and John for attending. Thank you Jerry and Katy. I am touched to have Chuck Armstrong here as well. I must also mention someone who is not here. Mr. Hiroshi Yamauchi. He was a long-time owner of the Mariners. I am forever thankful to him for giving me the opportunity to play in Seattle.as the first position player from Japan.
I am touched by the warm support of so many Mariner Hall Of Famers, who made time to be here tonight. It has been a pleasure getting to know Alvin. Once a fan shouted to me, “Hey, I loved watching you and Alvin play together!” At first, I was insulted. I thought, “Come on man! How old do you think I am? He retired way before I came here.” But then I thought, “Alvin is such a kind man. It would have been nice to be his teammate,” so I didn’t correct the fan.
Three of my first teammates are here.
Edgar. You were the most humble professional and you haven’t changed in retirement.
Dan. You were our iron backstop on the field, and our iron support in the clubhouse.
And Jamie! Thanks for coming all the way out here. As a leftie, you were so clever, but so talkative. When I first met you, you kept talking to me in English for thirty minutes! And, I had no idea what you said. Now, my English is a little better, but I still can’t understand most of what you say. Even so, you played until you were forty-nine years old, and that is something I greatly admire. I am honored to join this new Mariners team. Thank you all for being here to welcome me in person.
And then there is a guy I like to call George. You know him as Ken Griffey Jr. He was my idol even before I came to America, but in 2009 he returned to Seattle and I finally got to be his teammate. Yes, he’s a jokester. But for me, he’s also a true professional. He helped me in more ways than I can express. Being his teammate is truly one of my career highlights.
Thank you Marilyn, for representing the legacy of your husband, our legendary broadcaster, Dave Niehaus. My, oh my!
And Rick. Holy smokes! Thank you for being here too.
I am pleased to have my wife Yumiko here. This honor would not be possible without her. Together she has faced all the challenges with me in the journey to this moment.
Thank you to my long-time interpreter Alan Turner. I am pleased to have his family here. They have given me great support for my entire career.
I also appreciate a number of others who have given me great help over the years. They are in the stands tonight.
I am sorry that my first manager in Seattle, Lou Pinella cannot be here tonight. One of my first memories here was created by him. When we returned to the clubhouse after winning my first opener, Lou kissed me. Right here, on the cheek. The manager gave me a big wet kiss. That doesn’t happen in Japan and I was shocked. Honestly, I was scared. I thought to myself, “If this is the custom in America, I might not make it here.” Remember, we won 116 games that year. I wasn’t ready for 116 kisses from the manager. Thankfully, I carried on, and I’m so grateful I did.
Even though I retired as an active player, baseball and Seattle have never left my heart. Baseball will forever be my soul, and my mission is to keep helping both players and fans appreciate this special game.
Now, I am honored to serve as special assistant to Chairman Stanton. A position that allows me to work with players in spring training and during the season. Most days, I still wear the Mariners uniform, and I do so proudly. I want our players to know I am with you in your fight to be the best.
I was 27 years old when I came to Seattle. I could never imagine my career in America would last 19 seasons and that I would still be in Seattle today. With that in mind, I would like to say to the current players your future has possibilities that you cannot imagine as well. So embrace it by giving your best without imposing limits on yourself.
If a skinny, undersized guy from Japan can compete in this uniform, and then stand before you tonight to accept this honor. Then there’s no reason you cannot do it either.
Of course, you will face struggles and frustrations. I know, because I faced them every year. Without imposing limits on yourself, you must find the desire and the passion to overcome those daily challenges. That is the way to maximize your potential. Then, you can achieve the unimaginable.
And finally, to the outstanding fans of Seattle. You cheered loudly for me as a new player that first game twenty-one years ago, and you never stopped. When I returned in 2018, it was as if I had never left. The passion with which you welcomed me back touched my heart. It is one of the best memories of my career and I will never forget that feeling. It is my greatest honor to have played for you as a Seattle Mariner. I will keep doing my best for you and the Mariners. Thank you.

I saw him play live from 2004-2013 going to many games , pure class and always gave his all .The only sad thing is the ownership didn’t put a winning team behind him
they did a few times, just not playoff bound. they had some pretty decent records. the fact that the 116 win team didn't win it all was a shocker.

We are blessed to have Ichiro as part of the Mariners organization for years to come. Our baseball team finally has the foundation of some giants of the game upon whose shoulders future players can stand on.
And, those M’s Hall of Fame Jackets are sweet.

As a Japanese, I am very proud that Ichiro has been inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Not only did he accomplish great things, but he also opened the door for many Japanese baseball players to enter the MLB.
I also believe that he contributed to the goodwill between Japan and the United States.
I am very happy that American baseball fans have continued to support Ichiro.

さて、今日のメインディッシュであるイチロー氏のマリナーズ殿堂入り映像を見ました。マリナーズの公式チャンネルへも感謝申し上げます。イチロー氏のスピーチ素晴らしかったです。初めにお世話になったチームメイトと、入れ違いとはいえ自身が尊敬してやまないケン・グリフィー氏や弓子夫人、長年に亘ってお世話になった通訳さんとその家族への感謝には目頭が熱くなりました。そしてブーイングがあったものの、メジャー移籍初年度の監督であったルー・ピネラ氏への思いや入団時のオーナーへの感謝など、イチロー氏ならではのスピーチ構成にも感動いたしました。最後には勿論ですが応援して下さった全てのマリナーズファンへのメッセージもあって、”泣かないイチロー”の全てをさらけ出して頂いたと思っています。
