Ricky annoys those who deserve to be annoyed.
His 5th and last Golden Globes open monologue, is probably one of the greatest monologues of all times. It turned a mirror into Hollywood and showed how dirty and hypocritical they really are!
What made that one such unequivocal genius, was it was pretty clear he *wasn't joking* - he was speaking his mind. Dude does not give one solitary f#(K.

The man created The Office, Extras, Life’s Too Short and An Idiot Abroad all in a decade! Absolutely genius.
After Life is absolutely amazing as well. He writes about such deep and sensitive topics, and delivers it to perfection.

I think that’s why they brought him back five times because people don’t care otherwise but when he is on it’s hilarious watching the celebrities get knocked down a peg

The one thing that British comedians do better than anyone else around the world is story telling. Billy Connolly, Craig Ferguson, & Ricky Gervais are all sharp, quick thinkers with a gift to run out the clock before arriving at a punchline.

I got a friend of mine to watch it and prior to that he was not a fan he now loves Ricky it the best comedy scene ever my most memorable was tom hanks face, and when he said Epstein and you were his friends that was classic

Little does he know 50 years from now his hosting roasts will be what people watch.
Last night’s GG ceremony showed that having someone else trying to say things that Ricky might say isn’t the answer. Gervais just has that combination of razor sharp, precise wit and delivery and simply not caring about consequences. It’s very similar to Dave’s disposition early on in his career in many respects.
i think the trick to a good comedian and a good performer is that it has to be impossible to tell if he's joking or genuinly believes what he's saying and just pretending to be joking.

I watched and listed to every bit of Don Rickles as I was growing up and that was over 50 years ago. I know Don Rickles. This guy isn’t anything like Don Rickles. If he was he would have been making fun of Letterman like Rickles did with Johnny Carson. What Ricky said on the Golden Globes was absolute truth about that audience of self absorbed narcissists. He said what everyone already knows about these actors.

In her defense , that how much they paid her BUT half of what they paid her went to taxes . Then she has to pay her agent and he gets a hefty cut . Then her manager gets a hefty cut . She's lucky if she gets a quarter of that $50 million .
He was so good at presenting the Golden Globes that there is no other reason to watch those awards anymore.
I was such a huge fan of the American office and didn't realize it was a adaptation of a British show until much later along with who Ricky gervais was, but after binging the original office i couldn't believe how good it was. Ricky gervais is a comical genius such brilliant writer and impeccable timing. What he did at the Golden globes was one of the funniest things I've ever watched i regularly go back to watching highlights of it and it never gets old actually it gets more relevant through the years😅
If you haven't seen his comedy specials or Afterlife, they're well worth seeking out

Ricky is a very funny man. I well remember, just after his second Golden Globes when Hollywood wanted to lynch him, Letterman - someone himself with a true nose for the funny - was one of the first to publicly stand behind him. I genuinely believe that they've been friends of sorts ever since. There certainly seems a natural affinity in that relationship.
Ricky is awsum. No one can ruin his career esp when we all wanna see him being Ricky

Did you ever see the original Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure? On the surface, it seemed stupid, but it was actually clever and intelligent, with lots of subtle gags hidden within. Perhaps that would also mesh with your sensibilities.
