  • The Suzuki V-Strom 250 SX didn’t make a good impression on us when we rode it for the first time on some beautiful mountain roads between Dharamshala and Manali. But, as they say everyone deserves a second chance and we got the V-Strom 250 with us for a couple of months for a long term review. In the past few months we clocked over 5,000km with the Suzuki 250cc bike and I must admit, it did change my opinion. However, all’s not good with the V-Strom 250 SX. In this long term video we reveal the 6 reasons to buy the V-Strom 250 SX and 5 reasons to avoid it. The long term video talk details such as the touring ability, rough road performance, handling and engine dynamics of the Suzuki V-Strom 250 SX.

    The hard gear shift brilliantly solved by Suzuki service Centre, The bike they given for test drive had a harder gear than mine, Once i specifically tell this problem to service guys, they nicely done the job. Now shift is super smooth.
    Even the headlight throw in your video seems like lot higher, For me while the bike came, the headlight was not in proper slot( same for my another vstrom frnd) later they corrected.
    No issues with riding comfort and heating, done single stretch for 400+ km

  • @rensgt7740
    @rensgt7740 Před rokem +10

    The key is to shift the gear almost like the last gen Royal enfield classic till 4000rpm and shift like a sports bike at above 4000rpm.
    Rev matching mostly wont work below 4000rpm, above 4000 rev matching is a bliss.
    I warm up the engine regularly at least till the the rpm settles at 1500 rpm (best thing to do is to wait til the engine is hot to touch), it will make world of difference and engine runs ever smoother(with suzuki's ecstar oil)
    If you gradually increase the speed rather than full throttle, there will be no buzz. that's why this engine needs to be ridden like a touring bike and not full throttle in all gears like R15 or kTM's
    After 6k km's my engine is progressively becoming buttery smooth throught out all the engine rpm's that i regularly uses.
    Even my service center guys also told me that my bike is the smoothest 250 they ever had and asked me about my bike routines and riding style. so you can believe me

    1. Hard gear shift: Had same issue but after 2nd service gear shift have smoothen up (6k ride done)
    2. brakes: are good (7/10) but have to improve.
    3. seat height: I'm 5'8 and have learned to live with it.
    MAJOR CONCERN: lot of v-storm owners have complained about the left hand or right hand pull, there is some issue with handlebar alignment. I have discussed this with lots of owners and still the issue persist. I personally have very slight right side alliognment issue, been to service centre 3 time 95% resolved .
    4. Handling hands-down the best, gives lots of confidence.
    5. Seats are really comfortable easily done 90km in single strech.

    This can be used like a 100cc commuter or a 250cc tourer. Mileage is between 30 to 50. Ride between 55-70 KMs speed (tested during rainy nights) it delivers between 45- 50KMPL everytime without fail, just go to 6th gear once it crosses 40KMPH. It has enough torque to chug along in low speeds. between speeds of 90 to 100 you will get 35-40 KMPL. i have an old and trusty Unicorn 150 with butter smooth engine and gear shift. Suzuki cannot match my unicorn in engine smoothness or gear shift quality. But it trumphs unicorn or any 150/250cc bikes in Pick up, Mileage, useable torque, Seat quality (yes you can stay 3-4 hours in saddle without soreness), Pillion ride quality and exceptional balance. I am 5.8 and its tall for me but i can ride this anywhere nowadays. My bike has crossed 3500 kms and the avg fuel efficiency overall till date (for the whole 3500 kms) is 45KMPL. Even i cannot believe this. Normally i ride between 65 to 90. i m 45 years young.

      I am young of 56😂, and I am going to purchase this one , shortly! I have test driven it already.
      Starting from Yezdi 250 of 1974 make (possession of my father till 1994, I drove it between 1986 and 1994), then going on to RE Bullet (1994-1997 which was terrible experience), to Suzuki Shogun (1997-2006, the bike was "pocket rocket"), to RE Bullet again (2006-2016, fortunately, had better than average experience), to Himalayan 411 (2018-2022, had mixed experience, excellent riding experience but terrible quality issues). Had a break from riding for a few months, but I can't keep myself away from long riding. I was searching for an alrounder bike which is lighter, fairly fuel efficient, can be used for city ride and highway rides both, has good engine and less maintainance! At 56 (however young 😂, I don't want to waste energy in handling heavier vehicle), I need a lighter and alrounder bike which should serve pillion, well. Looking for all those things, Suzuki Vstrom 250 sx fits the bill, the best way! 👍

    My only issue is the way the engine sounds at higher RPMs (read - thrashy). And after riding at higher RPMs for sometime, the idle also sounds clattery!
    So even though the baby strom has performance at higher revvs it sounds as if it’s outside its comfort zone.
    My VStrom 250 is the E20 version and when I rode a friend’s E10 VStrom that’s run for 16k kms , it didn’t sound thrashy at all. So is it down to the E20 ?

    80-90% of the people don't have time to do adventure touring. They go to office, meet friends, go occasionally on highways for eateries and change.
    And if required this bike is capable of going to Ladakh as well. Check Falcon riders video if required.
    Overall this bike provides good comfort for those long hours in traffic, provides super control and braking for emergency situation, just the right power that one can utilise properly (unlike over powered KTM), and does everything so good.
    Is lighter by 30kgs than Himalayan and much comfortable than Xpulse and much cheaper then KTM too.

Those nasty jerks are transmitted through your spines upto your chest. I am yet to come to terms with these annoying surprises. I am toying with the idea of replacing it's rear monoshock unit with that of xpulse 200. I am requesting some experts opinion on this matter . Best thing about this byke is it's balance and stability. Wind Buffeting is very less. I have ridden it through strong winds very comfortably . It's balance is so good you even tend to forget that there's a pillion rider behind you. The footpegs are rear set and that's also a thing of annoyance for me.

    It's a good bike, brilliant ergos, one of the best seats amongst bikes and offers better efficiency than the rivals, has tubeless tires which offers great peace of mind.
    However - The refinement is all over the place, being a Suzuki you'd expect it to be better. Quality is a bit suspect. There are rust issues, and a few older 250 owners both tbhp and Xbhp have had their engines seized these are guys that take care of their bikes.
    Now there are some new vibration issues that crop up after the bike crosses 7k rpm.
    Suzuki are asking for good money in the name of jap reliability and peace of mind.. but i feel they are just at the levels of Hero / RE when it comes to quality.

      I owned a himalyan earlier and now i own a Gixxer 250. The difference in reliability between the two bikes is as clear as night and day. Ofcourse there will always be always a few exceptions where the experience has been bad for some people but when i owned the himalyan i was always taking the bike to the SVC every month for some or the other niggling issues and it was very frustrating. With the Suzuki that i have owned for more than two years now I haven't faced any such issues except regular service.

    One aspect that made me choose the Hunter over the Suzuki 250s was the engine. I rode it, and had the same gruff feeling that somehow felt will not go away even after many miles. Needed a smooth experience. And the Hunter’s engine, even though it does not have the top end of this 250, feels smooth. Request you to do a long term of the Hunter as well. I own one, have a few good as well as bad opinions, & would like to see how much of it is actually a larger character of the bike. So that I can do something to improve my experience of it.

      @doncorleone9297 Před rokem

      @@zigwheels Never interested in the Himalayan due to its weight. Scram looked very appealing, but prevalent Qs. regarding engine heating & refinement made me pass over it. The J series engine has been around enough to gather much goodwill, especially for its refinement. Also, alloys+tubeless tyres, better flick-ability, & the gorgeous looks. Interestingly, had the CB350 RS been much more reasonably priced for what it is, I'd have definitely gone with that because that was my original first preference, which I was intent on saving up for & buying. I find it to be a better bike overall, but I saved a lot of fuel money on the Hunter.
      That said, I find the suspension firm for the city 'spine' breakers, *SHIT* breaking which I don't have confidence in. Unreliable instrument console. The looks, engine & flick-ability are its strong points.
