Thanks so much to everyone for tuning in!
I leave a thumbs-up for the artist's artistic skill.
Much appreciated!
Fantastic! Always impressed with your work!.. and thanks for the insights into some of your techniques..
Excellent, really inspiring. Thank you.
Love your work!
Thank you so much!
Epic, I am defo going to get this pack. Thank you so much for sharing your process and creating this brilliant set. 👍☕
Awesome! Thank you so much for the support and I hope you enjoy the brushes and assets! 😃
As an architect turning into an illustrator, this brush set seem to be right up my alley! Wondering how it works in designer - but will find out by myself soon. Looking forward to it.
Also, thanks for very interesting tutorial - bunch of *subtle* tips and tricks 🙃
The ARTECHNIKA set works in Photo and Designer, the raster brushes can be found in the Pixel Persona of Designer.
These brushes should feel very familiar to you if you have a background in traditional drafting and sketching for architecture. Really happy to hear you enjoyed the video!
@@christidutoit I do, so I am sure it will feel familiar, as well.
oh, and also, this little spider of yours reminded me of tachikoma even before you mentioned it. 🕷🙂
@@Affinitybyserif thanks for explaining, I was looking for them in the Designer persona, but it make sense that it's not there 😅
This is awesome would love to see aee more of this type of concept design video.
Any case studies or tutorials about Brand Design (from logo design to building an entire brand guideline) with Affinity Designer, Publisher?

As a novice I've probably learned more from this tutorial than many others. I went right ahead and bought the Artechnika brush pack, so a double winner! I have one query that more experienced users might help with; I'm used to getting a colour swatch when I buy similar packs, but this one comes with what's described as a 'colour gamut', a quarter circle illustration of different colour graduations. Can anyone tell me how this is intended to be used please? Thanks!
Hi! Firstly, thank you so much for the kind words and support! A colour gamut in art is basically a way to block off certain areas of the colour wheel to create a limited palette based on colour theory. It obviously requires a bit of knowledge than just that though, but it’s totally worth searching ‘colour gamut in art’ on Google and CZcams to get some more insight. There’s also an amazing book by James Gurnee called Color and Light which is really really interesting and informative. 👌 The colour gamut wheel in ARTECHNIKA is more aimed at people who have a bit of know how, but once you get into the swing of using colour gamuts it can really elevate your work and use of colour.
@@christidutoit Thanks for the really helpful explanation, I’ll definitely check out the book you recommend!
Hi, I have a doubt. Images with gradients do not look well defined in PDF documents, although they look perfect in AffinityPhoto. How can I export PDF so that these perfect images can be seen? thank you
Crap, I thought it was ready. Now I gotta wait 3 more days 😅
Other than tool selection in "Affinity Photo", are there any other
reasons you prefer this illustration not being in a vector format?
First-time viewer of any of your tutorials. Found it to be well
worth my time! My primary challenge is digesting the volume
of information you are providing.
Thank You,

Thanks Jim! Glad to hear you enjoyed it.
While vector obviously has a lot of benefits, I find that vector can sometimes feel a bit too digital for someone who likes to draw everything by hand. Raster brushes tend to look and feel a lot more natural, and it’s much easier to apple textures and do grading and post processing to the images.
There are definitely times when I do work in vector out of necessity, but I find that my work, process, and style all seem to fit better with a raster format.
@@christidutoit: Thank you for your reply.
I'm curious. Is there any way to easily convert a raster image
into a vector file, using any of the Affinity software?
Thank you,
Jim
I’m afraid not (not at this point in time anyway). There are some third party options to do a raster to vector conversion, but the results are almost always lackluster. If you really need the work to be in a vector format then your best option is probably to create it in vector from the get-go.
Thanks for getting back to me.
I was hoping this wouldn't be your answer, but had a hunch it probably might be.
Have a great week-end!
I don’t know anything for sure, but I have seen that a vector trace feature is highly requested in the Affinity forums. Maybe we’ll see something like that in the future 🤷♂️
So which would be better to use for this sort of thing Designer or Photo?
Depends how you work. Designer has a pixel persona, so you could use that if you don't plan on scaling up and down a lot. If you do, then work in vector and use the designer persona.
You can really use either, but these are pixel based brushes. If you use them in Designer then you will have to first navigate to the Pixel Persona, but you will definitely be able to use them in both apps.
@@christidutoit i see🤔 so it's basically just a matter of personal preference pretty much😅
Pretty much! :)
How did he flip the canvas without highlighting all the layers? 10:38
Document > Flip Horizontal - default shortcut is Crtl + Alt + Shift + left arrow (Windows) Shift + Option + Cmd + Left arrow (Mac). I am assuming Christi has a shortcut mapped to his drawing tablet for that as well.
Exactly like Affinity said. I have cmd+y assigned as a shortcut, but you can customise it to be whatever shortcut you like by going into the app’s preferences and editing it from there. 👌
@@AffinitybyserifThank you! Both of you!
how to rotate like that?
View - Rotate Left/Right. I’ve set up simple shortcut keys to rotate quickly and easily while working.
Por favor, incluyan subtítulos en español.
J’aimerai suivre les vidéos en langue francaise
If you turn on CC and then in settings you can select 'auto translate' then select French you should be able to follow along! 👍

Sorry, the speed with which the images are shown makes the footage disturbing for the eyesight.
Hi, you can always slow down the footage using CZcams settings (the cog at the bottom right) if you find that easier to look at.
It's is possible to slow playback spead, you can mute the audio, to prevent distortion of sound.
So sorry about that. Had the same comment on my last video. Unfortunately the work often takes a lot of time to complete and to show the full process in a single Creative Session I had to speed it up. I tried to keep it as slow as I could while still making the video as thorough as possible and talking in detail about all of the steps along the way. ✌️
