I saw people on twitter talking about how the crowd being so loud was distracting and disrespectful to the wrestlers. The absolute antisocial behavior of wrestling fans online should be studied by a multi-national panel of scientists and researchers..
I bet those people loved the "what" chants and the silence during matches on RAW this week lol. Complaining about a crowd being "too" loud is crazy
@@stevenjoseph6048 more likely just "puroresu" weebs, who like that kind of silent crowds
Imagine thinking that the American dead crowds sat on their hands with the same old boring ‘what?’ nonsense is better than an organic culture of songs chants and real rowdy engagement.
I agree with you but I will say, the referee said the crowd was so loud that she was actually worried that Cody and AJ wouldn't hear the count, she said that on an Instagram Q&A.
A tenner says their profile pic was an aew wrestler or an anime character
It was embarrassing for other promotions who pretend they have lively crowds
If Dave meltzer genuinely does his stars on crowd reaction like makes the excuse for bucks matches then it was a 7⭐️ ppv
Must have been crazy for AJ to find out he has such a large following in the French community

@@Adam-yt7ycBeat me to it 😂
A lot of veteran wrestlers after their 45s slow down due to their health issues and cut a few moves out of their list, but AJ Styles is a good who not only looks great for 46, but still manages to do 90% of his moves from when he was still 30 or something, dude is so freaking good.
Not only does he look good, looks better than at 25 physically
He's the modern day Randy Savage in terms of ring work while over 45.
Randy is great but in no way in hell is he ever at the level of aj styles in terms of actual athletisism in the ring, savage played it safe comparitively, aj rarely botches on moves that are always usually very risky@@AlphariusDominatus
@@petebagwell6666 different styles, same level, buddy
That has a lot do with the fact that AJ hasn't let himself get out of shape like a lot of guys typically do at that point. Bobby Lashley is around the same age, and he doesn't look any older than he did during his first WWE run.
AJ Styles proving again he’s one of the best
Well finally. Most of his dream matches were just "okay".

@@DarkNorthEmperor Whoa! There goes Cody Rhodes!
You can’t have two titles and call one “Undisputed.”
They quietly drop "Universal" hopefully they will drop "Undisputed" to just calling it WWE Champion (With new Design)
Cody is the champion of this world and it's what it is.
@@jeffmendez02They're already doing that.
It's meant to mean undisputed across Raw and Smackdown, but drawing attention to that points out that the WWE title is just the TV title and is lower than the World Championship.
Raw champion and Smackdown champion. Nothing is world, universal or intercontinental
People don't wanna boo AJ cause he's so widely respected by the fans. It was cool seeing the fans go crazy for him. He's earned all of it 🙏🏽.
It's true. He's phemomenal.
And Cody was born to be champion. Great main event for a great crowd.
"If it's undisputed, then what's all the fighting about?" George Carlin
Every time I hear "undisputed champion" I think about this Carlin line lol.
Now to be fair that's the same problem with calling yourself World Champion when you haven't fought every single fighter in the world to win the belt.
France got this for free. Lyon didn’t pay a single cent for this show. It was originally supposed to be in Paris but they forgot the Olympics are being held in Paris this year.
What's your point? Unless your from there.
Lyon is a sporting city so why not
The Olympics caused a lot of problem for event now they all go to Lyon and other big cities
@@kingkoldit's just an interesting tidbit of information. Why are you being so rude?
I was wondering why they didn't run Paris.
Cody is the WWE champion. Damian is the world champion. The WWE title belts are on Smackdown. The world championship belts are on Raw. They got rid of all of the Raw and Smackdown title belts and brought back the world and WWE title belts which I honestly have no issues with.
Cody is the champion and holds the actual title with the lineage. The other belt was created out of thin air.
The shot of the camera shaking sums up the crowd.
It was Great ❤

these international shows really prove just how critically important the temperament and energy of the live crowd is for the viewing audience at home.
That’s why wrestling is unwatchable with no fans. And it’s very noticeable when someone is not over with a crowd
no it wasn't
I understand Jim's complaints about having two world titles, but the problem with having one of every championship is that they have two shows and networks that pay them a lot of money. WWE is way too big to unify the rosters and therefore the belts. It'd work it they had just one brand and one show, but they have to split the brands to keep the shows different enough and appealing to the audience and the network that pays them; and the only way the brand split can work is if each brand has its champions. Wrestling, specifically WWE, has become too big to be what it used to be even 25 years ago, let alone 40. Jim has said many times that wrestling became a national and now global television product, but it was originally designed to be a local and regional business and to be seen live, and TV was used to build the live shows. But the world has changed for better or for worse and no a TV or streaming deal is essential because that's where the money is. Because WWE is so huge, it needs the brand split and it needs to "duplicate" the titles.
Well said. I agree 💯
I don't think they should have split the tag belts between brands though. Despite all the people on the roster, the tag division isn't that stacked.
@@virgilhawkins7368For now. It isn’t stacked for now. Ideally the longterm plan would be to build strong tag team divisions. And having one set of belts means a lot of teams are sitting on their hands every week, which would make growing two tag divisions simultaneously harder to do.
I think the last time WWE was truly great was the early-to-mid 2000s during the first brand split. It wasn’t perfect, but it was exciting and fresh back when Paul Heyman was running Smackdown.
I think they need to have separate creative teams for each show.
You can still have one belt between 2 brands because you already have brand specific mid card belts.
Cody Rhodes vs AJ Styles was better than Will Osprey vs Bryan Danielson on so many levels

And I’m not even French
Yeah the Hartford crowd was terrible. Even in comparison to the previous US crowds.
i don't
This was a great match, with two of the best in the ring going at it. We knew AJ wasn't going to win, but Cody needed a strong first challenger, and AJ delivered. Yes, there were a few mistakes but they recovered because are professional. The insane crowd just added something special to this match. When you have the arena and cameras shaking during the main event you've done something right.
the crowd singing cody's theme song acapella for an entire chorus after the music is over -> awesome
the crowd singing their own national fucking anthem -> absolute wankers
Americans sing their national anthem at every bloody sporting event they can. Give over.
I broke down and bought AEW Fight Forever out of the Walmart bargain bin for $10 with a 25% off coupon and used a gift card I found in the dryer that still had $6 on it. 😂I still feel ripped off.
They should have had Gunther vs sheamus in France those people would have gone batshit
I agree, but having a good match in TV it raises the stocks of the TV show as well.
Gunther in Berlin will be a sight to see.
Yes I know he’s from Austria but Germany and Austria are on very good terms.
Imagine what reaction Lyon's crowd would have to that chop to the back from their monday match

They did actual wrestling moves did a great build up. The spot of kicking out at one of an established move then firing up after is what was praised in the Omega vs Okada matches and has been done to death in NJPW and AEW. It’s a part of modern wrestling. This match had old wrestling and new in it. Amazing match. Loved to the collar elbow tie up. Headlock takeover. Waist locks there was limb work. Backdrops. Great build to the big finish.

Brian's wonky keyboard playing is the equivalent of Jim's singing, and I love hearing them both.
The crowd was so boisterous and had tremendous energy. WWE needs to have more international PLEs in Europe.

WWE would be insane to not do a Big 4 PPV in Europe at this point.
no they don't
PHENOMENAL LALALALA
I don't like his politics but AJ Styles is the best wrestler of the last decade or so imo
I went back and watched this with my son and it was better than I remember. I had a small issue with the kickout at 2 after the Burning Hammer. Give that move some respect, especially because it's the first time a WWE audience has seen it.
But I understand. They're trying to hammer (pun intended) Cody over.
AJ is such an incredible athlete for being able to move like that in his late 40s.
Finally a wrestling match. No horse shit, no gimmicks. Great match.
My memory's fuzzy on this: Has Cody done that blatant of a hulk-up before? I think him hulking out of a Burning Hammer was meant to signal that he's changing up his style as a Champion, but maybe he's done this before and I haven't noticed
@@ImmortanDan I've never noticed but if they weren't in France, I'm curious what the reaction would've been.
For those unaware, the song they were singing to AJ was “HE IS PHENOMENAL, HE IS INDEED PHENOMENAL”
I knew it's wasn't going to happen, but I was hoping at some point LA Knight would come out with a chair and pay AJ back for Elimination Chamber. It would have been so poetic.
“Hey Derek!”, always a classic line!
Great match. Great crowd. Great PLE.

When i watched this match and saw the back drop i instantly thought of Jim.

Anyhoo, anyone else noticed how many Bullet Club members or leaders are in the E nowadays?? & Balór originated the Bullet Club too... 🤔
"Just have 1 title..." Exactly, or permanently separate Raw and Smackdown.
The raw title is the fake belt they put on people they want to push and its gonna be interchangeable until cm punk returns and the smackdown one is the real belt
Paisano's making an appearance in my Jim Cornette content is wild. I thought that was a Virginia solely thing lol.
They didnt kill their finishers. Immediately a classic
This match was a better wrestling match than the Cody-Reigns match at Mania, actually by a pretty great margin, but that match had its impact and history thing going for it.
But this was probably WWE’s best match so far this year.
I honestly forgot it was on at 12:30pm est. And missed it. They should perform later at 3am over in France, they don't eat dinner till 11:00pm
AJ Styles seems like he's turning baby face . I'm ready for it,!
When it comes to the term undisputed I have been debating that put over a year now and nobody seems to understand that they won't need that many champions
Wasn't expecting Eddie Money in this episode
In the words of George Carlin: "If it's the undisputed championship, what's all the fighting about?"
After hearing them talking about the Ric Flair incident I can’t wait to hear them talk about it more
I wonder if this is gonna be a theme for Backlash, where it's in a new country each time. The crowd was incredible last year and this year so WWE going this route wouldn't be surprising.
6:00 Exactly "RESPECT" no styles clash kick out. Liked the match simple. Little of the WWE format the table spot felt forced but got going after. Yeah felt New Japan going to be weird to have a champion that actually wrestles now. AJ Styles did the burning hammer well done boys
Does anyone know why the clash at the castle tickets cost so damn much...
Cmon guys they announced it was the undisputed wwe champion in the match introductions
The whole thing is ridiculous. When the WWF and WCW titles were combined in 2001, they called the unified champion the "Undisputed" WWF/WWE Champion, It was referred to as that until Brock became Smackdown exclusive during the first brand split in 02 and Bischoff named Trips as World heavyweight champion to represent RAW. But this time, they create/resurrect the World heavyweight title for RAW, and the combined WWE /Universal champion on Smackdown is still called "Undisputed"??? There's clearly no logic to that. If you have two champions, then there's a dispute.
Yeah, the only way to actually make sense of the “Undisputed” label on the WWE Championship is if they truly keep Smackdown and Raw as 2 different entities despite being under the WWE umbrella. I mean like 2 different sub-promotions. Doubt it happens based on previous history on the brand split because they never honor it for long.

They absolutely beat last year's Backlash which WAS the best ever. In my opinion they arent marks. Everyone there got promoted to honorary "boys."
The highest rank possible.
The boys.

Wrestlers *are* the carnies, pal…not a step above the casuals.
And it’s incredibly *markish* to consider anyone “one of the boys” when you aren’t one yourself.
3:45 plus they're both Vince guys
Saw a tweet from Brandon Thurston that Lyon not pay a site fee for Backlash.
WWE wanted it in Paris but because of the Olympics could not happen.
Since Jim & Brian brought it up: the game is clearanced to $10 a t Wal-Mart.
The fact AJ beat Dusty coulda gave the story an interesting twist to let AJ go over Cody so he is the only one who could say he won world titles from both, and just have Cody get it back and *actually* avenge wrestlings other royal family's true assassin before Summerslam...almost.
Can't wait to hear about the latest Ric Flair video that's been making the rounds
This match >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Ostrich/Daniel whatever. This is my current Match of the Year and the crowd to it to the next level.
While it's confusing,in boxing there can be an "undisputed" champion while having one or more other world champion in the same weight class.
Never thought of it that way
Funny y’all mentioned the AEW game, they just came out with a new DLC and added wrestling CZcamsrs instead of folks who’ve been on their roster from day one. Don’t worry though, they added Adam Copeland and a haunted house map to play in.
I think Ric Flair just wanted his shirt and jacket heated up at Paisano's Pizzeria and Woooooooooooings!
Ha.
Great Main Event to cap off an excellent PPV and more Shows in France too.
I agree about the title names. They need to drop the Undisputed from the WWE championship if you're going to have the World Heavyweight Championship on Raw.
Jim is being quite nice when referring to the neighbor around Churchill Downs as not that posh. Personally I would say it reminds me of an eight foot deep hole dug for an outside that have been filled up with morning Russo’s and toilet paper. That said the last time I went to the Derby was 15 years ago and I think we paid 50 bucks to park our car which was on par for what I paid for a parking place in a yard at the Indy500.
last week at Walmart AEW fight forever Ps4 was $10 bucks
I'm fine with how loud the crowd was. In fact it's excellent that they were that loud. I just wish that they were being loud with cheers, not with chants and singsong shit. I'm of the opinion that volume is irrelevant if the noises being made are the fans just celebrating themselves. Are people unable to say "yay" and "boo" anymore?
You people will find anything to complain. Plus you obviously don't speak french .. most of the chants were in relations to the matches .. we just have a supporters culture , we see the noise level as rewards for our athletes as opposed to your obvious and painful consumers mentality which is centered around your own experience in your own little bubble . In other words , we do live crowds better than you , yes . Cry me a f*cking river .
Could someone please transcript the joke Jim's partner throw at 9:10? I'm not an English speaker but JC laughed so much that I want to understand haha
i’ve always hated the concept of having two “world titles” because it by default invalidates one of them. the “wwe championship” which based off it’s name is the top title of the JUST the company, whereas the “world championship” is the lesser of the two titles but based off the name you’d imagine it being the #1 title. and it’s even funnier that the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP is basically a midcard title
It was around a 40 minute match. (I didn't time it) But it was a long amazing match. Solid work was done. The crowd put it over. If you use Dave Meltzer ratings it was 7 stars. Best match in European history. 🤣
