So glad there aren’t any crazy rules for days of the week. I was expecting Monday to be a completely different word if you are talking to a woman about a Monday on the 3rd week of November or something.

The word Суббота makes me think of "Sábado" in Spanish, which also means Saturday.
Ah, verdad! "subbota" ~ sabato ~ sábado. Sabes que en ruso, el vino se dice: вино = vino! O también: велосипед = bicicleta! Se parece a la palabra "Velocípedo". Pero no muchos la usan en al español de hoy.

@trains and trams I love French, but Russian has too many stupid French words from the 19th century. Many French words (Arab and other foreign words) starts from A, for example: "Абажур" or "ателье". Some oldschool stuff :)

I like it when he starts to write things down. It's interesting to see how Russians write their words.
They actually write differently than shown here. He is using the alphabet found in books. This is the alphabet for reading books and magazines, for printed material, that is. They do have another set of symbols for actually writing by hand.
And here I've been stressing about not having perfect cursive yet!

Talking about preposition "в" "во" - there's no difference in the meaning, so they're actually two variants of one preposition which basically means "in" "inside of something" also it has the meaning of direction, for instance:
"Я иду в магазин" - "I'm going to the shop". So it takes the meaning of "to" in many cases when we're talking about the point of destination, especially when it means that we're going inside of a building.
It's very easy to define when we use "в" and when we use "во".
We use "во" when the word starts with a consanant "в" and after it there are other consanants, for example:
"Ты пришел во время" - "You came just in time"
And we use "в" when the word starts with "во" and in all other cases. For example:
"Мяч упал в воду" - "The ball fell into the water"
"Мой друг работает в офисе" - "My friend works in the office"
I'm from Paraguay so I'm so far away from Russia and Europe in general and there's no Russian classes anywhere in here. I'm so really thankful with you for doing all of this! I really like the language and hope someday I can be in Russia :)

I started following your videos a few days ago and I really enjoy watching them. I really like and appreciate the fact the videos are short and sweet. Since I actually feel that I'm learning! So 5 to 17 minutes is more than enough. Keep the good work! Also I noticed there is a similarity between the days and some numbers 4- chittere and Thursday, 5- pyat and Friday and Saturday...

Good find! You are correct, days of the week are named after corresponding numbers. Except Saturday (суббота) which is an adapted Shabbat and Sunday (воскресенье) which means resurrection.

LONG videos! It's nice to bulk them so I don't have to constantly change or look for the second part, it's more practical and I seem to be more focused if I don't have to mind switching to other videos, which often distracts me or making an excuse for myself and use it as a break to do something else. And I really want to learn more Russian from you ^^

Well, definitely gonna need this for my exam on Saturday.
A little bit ‘bout russian grammar, д, в, ж, з, г are strong form letters, which as you pronounce them, you throat will vibrate and т, ф, ш, с, к are weak forms. It means that as you pronouce these weak forms your throat won’t vibrate. So when you see д, в, ж, з, г at the last of words, they will turn into т, ф, ш, с, к in order but don’t do it in contrary. It’s a rule but easy to remember. there is an example for you in this video when you pronounce Четверг ( thursday ), the г will turns to к as it is at the last of Четверг

in Greek and Portugues is the same. They use for example in Greek monday δεύτερη (deftera) which is mean Second day. τρίτη (triti) third day. etc. They have the same systemen in Russian.

To reply to your question: i would prefer shorter videos of 7-10 minutes for more complex and deep grammatical subjects. But for easier vocabulary or russian culture subjects, i would prefer videos like this one, length 15-20 minutes. Especially, for russian culture and habits you cannot expand enough in short videos. Spent 53 days in a row using Busuu. I find that they give me the basis to a subject, then I watch your videos for more insight and then to practice, then go back to Busuu to complete that activity. These videos ARE SO HELPFUL! I cannot stress this!

Hi Fedor, In reference to your question about length and content of videos, I think if the subjects you are talking about are related (like this one with days of the month and months of the year), I like one video. Yes, it is a little longer, but I am okay with that. If you were smooshing together two subjects that were unrelated like days of the week and colors, then I would say, two videos. I am going to practice my calendar now! Thanks for another great video lesson!

New to russian, thanks to drops and duolingo plus couple other little things. Not much past say a couple months of actual lesson in my russian and just want to say - the more Russian grammar I observe, the more I understand why there is a problem with alcohol in Russia.

I just realised that четверг and пятница start of like четыре (4) and пять (5) whilst also being the fourth abd fifth day of the week respectively. That makes it easier to remember :D

You've been helping me a bunch, both the short and long videos have been great. Personally, I prefer longer videos, because I can multitask and learn russian wherever, without having to change videos so often. But I suppose some subjects are longer than others, so it all depends! Thanks again, so far your videos are the most educational and easy to abosorb that I've found on youtube. Rock on man.
I like shorter videos with one subject each so for me a video for weekdays then a different video for months makes the most sense. But either way, thank you very much for making these videos.

In response to your question. I am OK which ever length you make the video, but when they are short it permits me to focus on that specific lesson until I feel confident to continue to the next.
I prefer like 15 min videos over 7 minute videos because longer ones go more in depth with stuff and that helps A LOT with memorization. I once watched like a 42 minute video and it helped me so much with grammer!
By the way Fedor, thanks for mentioning Alter Bridge…….I might have a new favourite band now
I realize by now it is an old question but I would say the length of the video would depend on the subject matter. It makes sense to combine week days and months, so the length of this video is appropriate. If we were in a classroom lessons would be anywhere from about an hour to two or more. This 15 minute (or so) segments are very nice.
I do wish there were some way to get CZcams to offer them consecutively. As a beginner I find it a little frustrating to sift through all the more advanced lessons to find the more basic lessons, but they are all so good I find I don't mind this so much.
Sounds very good! I have been watching Burn Notice on Netflix and there is a lot of Russian spoken in some episodes. Although I understand so little of it, it is fun to pick out the words I have learned. My new project is to make flash-cards of the words I am learning to help me review.
пятница with пят in the beginning, like day 5 'пять'. Because of this and you starting with 'понедельник', makes me think the Russian week starts on Monday. Makes more sense than calling the weekEND or Sunday, the beginning of the week

I think situational vocab is a good topic for videos. For example you could dedicate one video to vocab at a restaurant, or how to order coffee, catching a bus etc. I found when I was in Russia I could say what I learned, but when someone asked me a further question back i had no idea what they are saying. For example, if I order a coffee I can make myself understood, but then they ask if I want milk or sugar, or large or small...I do not have this additional vocab so cannot handle the situation in Russian completely. I can survive but I cannot thrive and so knowing how to operate in a given context is very powerful. Thanks!

Talking about whether it's ok or not to keep the days of the weeks and months in different segments of seven minutes or so. It's doesn't matter to me. We're going to have to learn it sometime, sooner or later, when learning the Russian language. Fedor, you're the best teacher, when it comes to learning the Russian language.
