  • Recently bought a 350 lb. capacity Harbor Freight Vulcan welding cart for my mig welder. Harbor Freight part # 56191. Decided to modify the cart to hold 2 welders, instead of just one. Cart seemed to be made from decent components and steel, maybe a little light weight, but perfectly adequate. Lincoln 140 mig welder and Chicago Electric flux core 100.

Those carts are great. I’ve got 3 of them. I use the biggest tanks on them too.

I bought the cheapest cart on Amazon and it was 35 bucks. I bought it for my plasma cutter. The top shelf is at a slant so where the pads on the bottom i put non skid tape so it would sit in place. I built extra brackets to hold the cables in a neat position. My cart with the welder is one made by metal man and I bought it from Home depot and now the price has gone up.

I just bought this cart today and I think I’m going to copy your design to raise the top tray and bottle mount, thanks for the video

Thank you! It was a fun little project, saves a lot of space in he shop, getting 2 welders off the floor.

Howdy, new scriber here. I recently bought the same lincoln. Gotta grab my cart still. Good unboxing video of the 140.

Thanks! Very happy with the welder and cart upgrade. Both are great additions to the shop.

Thanks for the review. Seems like the only cart people want to review are the $40 ones.

Glad you liked it. The $40 ones are very flimsy. They wont even fit a full size mig machine properly.

You will not be disappointed in the 140 Lincoln, I have a 180 Lincoln and love it!!!

I mod’ed mine too…with the price of steel these days…it was worth the stop by HARBY HARBY and making these meet my needs!

Unless you are off roading there is no need to make something more to hold the bottle. I'd trust the stock chain more than the rope on the other cart shown.

I constantly have it in and out of a pickup, going different places. I dont like the noise and freedom the tank has with a chain.

I was trying to do the same thing as you did with this cart. After cutting the frame, I realized that this more like 16 gauge material. How did you weld it with 11 gauge material?
Btw, I went to the big box store to get some 16 gauge square tubing, because I didn't wanna burn through the material.

I used what I had lying around, to keep costs low. When you weld dissimilar thicknesses of metals, you have to favor the thicker metal with your puddle. You then "share" the thicker metal with the thinner, or spread the liquid puddle to the thinner, giving it time to reduce in temp before reaching the thin metal. Kind of an old trick I learned, takes a bit of practice but works well.
