C7 Corvette Driving Secrets You CAN’T Do WITHOUT!
Hello everyone and welcome back to Brink of Speed!
I made this video so that I could point out a few driving secrets that I learned about my 2015 C7 Corvette Z06 that you can't do without!
There are really 5 secrets that I've come up with, that I'd like to share with you. So let's get started.
1: The side view mirrors. Most people think the best way to adjust their side mirrors is to make them so they can see the side of their car in them. This is not correct at all though and will leave a huge blind spot! In this video, I teach you a secret and show you how to properly adjust the side mirrors to completely eliminate blind spots.
2: The next tip is a little racing secret. This one is kind of difficult to write about and that's why I show you exactly how to do it on this video. Smashing the throttle and releasing it quickly in an Automatic will put the car in performance shift mode and ready to race, again, you will see this done first hand in this video.
3: Shutting the rear hatch in a 2014 or 15 with both doors shut won't let the hatch shut all the way because of the suction seal inside. The secret is to open one door and then shut the hatch, this will remove the suction seal, and allow the hatch to shut easily. Otherwise, you have to touch your paint on the hatch and press down pretty hard to latch it all the way. I demonstrate this perfectly in the video also.
4: Cup holders not good for any plastic cups or water bottles, but great for 30-40 ounce artic cups. Make sure to watch this section of the video as I show you the secret to successfully placing a drink in your C7 Corvette cup holders and not having to worry about it toppling over.
5: Parking brake secret. Make sure to always use this when your on any kind of hill. Most people just put their car in park or if you have a manual transmission they use first gear to hold the car. This isn’t good for your transmission at all. You’ll notice when you let off the brake after putting your car into park, that it either rolls forward or backward. This adds a lot of unnecessary strain to your transmission and gearbox. So when you park on any incline where you can tell the car will roll either forward or backward, the secret is to put your car in neutral, then apply the parking brake, let your foot off the brake to allow the weight of the car to rest on the parking brake, then put your car in park or 1st gear. Again I demonstrate this C7 Corvette parking brake secret perfectly in this video.
I hope these driving secrets helped you out today with your C7 Corvette or even any other car that you may drive as some of these can definitely apply to all cars.

hold the downshift paddle when you're driving and it will shift to the lowest possible gear for your speed and automatically go into manual mode. Instead of flooring it and getting off like you do in tip #1

@@pablobecerra2816 Depends. If you use the paddles when you are in "D" mode it will revert back to full auto after something like 20 seconds. If you are in "M" mode you need to use the paddles to shift up but when you are coasting to a light it will do the downshifting.

Hi Mike, love your videos. I have 2006 Vette the was my husbands last gift to me before he past away 2 years ago. He knew I had always wanted one. He had Parkinson's disease for many years & I was his 24/7 caregiver for the last 10-1/2 years. Six months before he pasted, he told me there were 3 things he wanted me to do. Aside from getting out & enjoying myself, he wanted me to get that Vette I always wanted. Who was I to not listen to him, so 3 months later after shopping for one, I got it. LOVE IT. It's Malibu Red, Beautiful. It's my baby. My father & husband had always told me to use the parking so as to not put stress on the transmission. Could & should I use your suggestion on my Vette. Always willing to listen to good advice to do what is best for the car. Thank you, Mike, keep the videos coming. Sue V., AZ

I know that being a caregiver is most of the time harder on your health as the caregiver than the person you are taking care of. I love making these videos as cars are my passion and have been since I was a kid! Again thank you for your kind words and your wonderful support! 😊

Hello, thanks for the tips. I enjoy tips from owners. Just purchased my third Vette , a 2019. No need to slam the trunk lid or hatch lid. There is a built in handle in the lid made to use and will keep fingerprints off the car. Better than that, to save the integrity of the car, just pull down the lid with the handle to the rear deck to touch the latch and DO NOT SLAM. Now, just press the top of deck lid gently and the lid will pull down automatically. There is a built in motor for this. I had a 2010 and it had this pull down feature as well. Every year since 2010 should have this feature. Safe travels! 🚘

My grandfather (1970s and 1980s) drove GM vehicles almost exclusively. Almost all of them were automatics. He used to speak of a "kickdown" gear and, in his '76 305 V8-equipped Malibu Classic coupe, demonstrated: You floor it for a split second and let go. Then, just as quickly, you get back on the gas pretty hard. You're now in a gear low enough for quick acceleration. So, it seems like GM has had some form of this feature in its vehicles for decades.

and on the topic of hatches - i rarely open mine, so when i pop it, sometimes the steal is stuck and it wont actually lift up so that i can open it. you can see its been released, ,but you cant even get a finger under it to break the seal. what i learned very quickly - open a door and close it quickly - since these cars are so damn air tight, it breaks the seal on the hatch and opens her up. its amazing how well sealed the cabin is in these cars.

I understand what you are saying about the mirrors... but I also count on my side mirrors to see what is behind me.... I drive a bus for my Church, and have many miles, in my past, of driving vans, and FedEx trucks and even Oil Tankers... where an inside rearview is not available... as well as a LOT of motorcycle riding.
    SO, I am very accustom to using my side mirrors a LOT for checking not only what is beside me, but also what is behind me... And yes, I DO always want at least a small portion of MY car visible, as a reference point... (-;

There's a motorized flap that is open to vent the air when closing the hatch, but it vents out behind the license plate, so the plate restricts it. It's barely adequate anyway, but if some gap is allowed behind the plate it would be more effective. I just usually give it a more authoritative swing to close it, which is then overkill if I happen to have a window open.
The vents along the back of the hatch are where the air shoots through when closing, so that needs to be unobstructed also.

@@BrinkofSpeed If you remove your rear plate and look into the opening with a flashlight you should be able to see the flap open and close when the hatch is opened and closed- It's a neat concept but doesn't quite flow enough to make a big difference.

I discovered the downshift mode the 1st time I had mine out for a cruise, just after I got it. In "S" mode, I just punched her and she lit up like no tomorrow, Another thing I discovered is I added Flowmaster Monster cat backs. Since I still have the exhaust mode, you can permanently disable it and leave the flutters open all the time. Fuse #24, a 20 amp, which is easy to find. Just take it out and your done. To cancel, just replace it.... C7 fun times.

If you just grab the left paddle and hold it in, it will downshift to the lowest feasible gear, and put it into manual shift mode temporarily for that spirited run. Then when you are done, just stop shifting for a little time, and it will go back into auto mode.
