- In today's video I am taking you on a trip to see the 18th century mosque from the times of Suleiman the Magnificent and the ruins of the historical remains of the castle and reach their gates :)
Alanya Hill Castle:
Undoubtedly, it is the most recognizable tourist attraction of Alanya. The fortification towering over the city is a remnant of the castle built on the orders of Alaeddin Keykubad, and its construction dates back to the 13th century. The location of the fortification prevented it from being captured by enemies, which prevented its complete destruction. The hill on which the castle was built is 250 m above sea level. From the eastern side, the castle was defended by a huge wall 6.5 km long. There are a total of 140 defense towers. From the western side, access to the bastion was protected by a steep cliff, effectively making it impossible to reach the top.
The entire complex of Alanya's fortifications includes an inner castle, a system of walls with numerous towers and an armory. The most advanced element of the fortifications and the symbol of the city is the Red Tower. In the southwestern part of the historic complex there is a citadel with all the buildings, both for military purposes and numerous tanks for rainwater collected in the event of a lack of water during the siege. In addition to these buildings, there are also those with a completely different purpose, such as the recently discovered palace of Alaeddin Keykubad, the ruins of a Byzantine church from the 11th century and a mosque from the times of Suleiman the Magnificent. All facilities located on the hill are open to visitors as an open-air museum. To enter the complex, you must purchase an entrance ticket.
