My body’s used to do that now since my art has evolved it’s nice and smooth btw if you see my drawings in my channel there old so they aren’t that good
Proper drawing technique shares a lot in common with proper guitar playing technique. Use the whole arm. Don’t squeeze or stroke too hard, only use just enough force to accomplish the movement.
oh boy this'll be hard. shoutout to the dudes with essential tremor cause you've probably held onto the pencil with every cell of your being for god knows how long
My beloved and deceased lecture taught me how to incorporate flowing lines into my drawings it has taken my art to another dimension and makes them look alive amazing what the flow of linework can do to your art.
I spent so much of my childhood drawing on a limited amount of paper that I learned to draw everything very small, so I could get the most out of it; 10 years down the line and I still fall into that habit, so these little reminders are quite helpful lol
It's really difficult to do that if you use a small tablet for digital drawing. I use the wrist most of the time because of the small area available, so my line strokes when I'm sketching are usually choppy. When I add the final lines I try to fix that, but it takes some time though 🤭
maybe save up for a larger tablet? if anything, you can still learn tapered strokes with just your wrist also use prokos other tip and break complex lines into I C and S shapes
@@redvelvet9215 I would have to increase my brush size to see my lines on my small iPad mini when I zoom out, which is why I’m focusing on drawing on paper for now 🤣
@@rileydanes5456 most programs have an option for a zoomed in second window That way you can zoom out and see your strokes close up in a seperate window
You can still make small strokes without your wrist. Like he said you have to use a lot more of your shoulder. Just lock your wrist and try to move everything else in your arm. Also does not hurt to draw on paper if you arnt already. It all translates to digital.
I will say this, I only recently started seeing your videos, I’ve been drawing for a while now, about 3 years, and I’m still in many of the beginner stages cuz I never properly learned nor trained myself how to make my artwork look good and decent, even though I’m just a cartoonist, these tutorials help a lot because it reminds me that the fundamentals help way more than just jumping head first and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for making these videos and helping artists
It takes a lot of practice to shift from finger and wrist drawing to your shoulder more, but it is so worth it. Try drawing with your shoulder as much as possible as you practice, even when drawing tiny
My advice, 10-15 mins warm up drawing only lines, different. Many. Lines, elipses etc. Before every drawing session. And confident strong good looking lines will come fast
I was doing great and making a lot of progress, and when I started taking this guys advice, it was like I forgot how to draw all of a sudden. My advice is to do what feels comfy. Practice using lines and circles. Your technique will come to you.
That's a hard part of learning art "rules". The more you learn, the more you get to know you're not doing "right". If drawing with just intuition and exploration suits your purpose, absolutely do it that way! We're here for those who are looking for it. Not telling anyone to not do what they'd like with art. Just make things! 😀
@ProkoTV eh, I say it's subjective. There's no right way to do art. You're good at what you do, but really, you can only help give people tips that have helped you. There are literal child prodigies who never took a single lesson. With all that said, keep doing what you're doing. You're helping a lot of people. Just for me personally, doing it my way is working exceedingly well.
I often find students get confused on this point exactly because of the "don't be choppy" statement that gets thrown around a lot. But this is a great example. If it feels like finger painting the air, then it's probably in the right direction. Fidelity of the stylus in any medium begets the confidence, as you say. Good tip! Thanks for your work!
Im only having trouble with moving your elbow because i cant imagine what it would look like i just keep tuinf if shoulder one when im tryna visualize the elbow one
I call this a spiky line. I always used to hold my pencil tight as if I'm clinging to that one thing that's holdin my life n when I tried using these lines, it was so frustrating n difficult in the beginning but I got used to it.
We promise the courses are worth it. We make sure that our courses are priced way way less than art school, with all of the knowledge and much better replayability. But we also try to put up as much as possible for free here on CZcams and even have days where we stream the paid lessons. Hopefully, one of those things helps.
You should listen, because I have a problem and Idk how to not squeeze the pencil and now my finger has a sort of dent and hurts when I write so if you can, PLEASE STOP SQUEEZING THE PENCIL.
There are a lot of books that include a tapered stroke but none that we know of that are exclusively about it. But the video this is from is linked below the title of this short. That's a free lesson you can check out about it right now, no book needed!
It's definitely in the works! CZcams makes it a little harder for us to do multiple languages tracks at the moment but we're ready to do that when the time comes!
Iv’e been drawing for 10years I can Create a comic of DC , dragon ball ,SpongeBob etc and any cartoon, it won’t look exactly like it but there will be a resemblance
I do the opposite. Any tips for when you draw too light? When I take a picture drawing traditionally I have to up the contrast in a photo editor so you can see my lines
Rendered my hand pretty much useless by prob flexing like every muscle cos i guess i didn't have support on my arm, wrist was in bad position and just don't know how to hold a digital pencil and am always squeezing & pressing too hard anyways... It's been almost 2 months now in pain, cried at health center cos wanna do art asap.. so yeah guys, do take breaks, loosen up and study ergonomics! :') (adding sum extra grip on pen with rubberband could also maybe help if pen feels too slippery)
It shouldn't hurt. You might be dealing with a posture problem or something else. Try to identify if moving your shoulder while not drawing hurts. If it's not about posture or prolonged sitting in one position, you should try to get that sorted out with a doctor.
Bro this is so funny. The name of his channel is PROKOtv , if you add "a" at the beginning it becomes APROKO which means know-it-all or pocknoser in Nigerian language 😂😂😂😂😂
Brush settings! Different brushes will use the stylus pressure to control the size and opacity of the line. Play with your settings and see what feels comfortable for you.
im a chronic pencil squeezer, so thank you for reminding me!
I'll try and remember to relax my hand next time i doodle!!
Woah that's intelligent 😍
It's the same for me so badly. My thumb gets so soar!~ I always repeat to myself "gotta have an egg shell grip!".

Seconding Callum! You can do it!
You got this man, you ain’t the only one
you got this man, it sure takes time but one day you sure will be like one of them.
I am telling you i was saying the same thing when i was a beginner and now i can draw like that.. anything can be done through practice👍👍

Well it certainly owes you time. Time is money

In art school, we called those "hairy lines."
I still have this habit, unfortunately, because my "aim" isn't great.

okay, Ima try it on the drawing tab
Damn, it feels different like on paper
My art style is supposed to be sloppy and sketchy, even though I’m inking. Though this is good advice!
Line and outlining are always the first things to master. It's all in the wrist! 😂

I was doing a tapered Line and just Realised I made an An apple that had a bite in it crazy
Now no one can blame us for drawing a circle with these lines 😂
My first art class I was taught to hold the pencil line 😂😂
Now I'm better itsmeasy to erase and also looks better 😊
I used tapered lines even before I knew what they were

I actually hate the look of tapered lines, I really liked that first one, though 😅
Imagine if a line got a low taper fade
"imagine if this line had a low taper fade"
amazing
I learned this on accident when I was pretty young I got tired cause I couldn’t never draw a straight line and I was like hold up. I got an idea.😂
I can’t comprehend how they go from scribbles to art but when I scribble they stay scribbles 😢lol
I have hyper flexibility and so I hold my pencil with a very tight grip, and it’s a habit I just can’t get out of. Any tips?
Helped me draw a wolf
For some reason my best work was when I squeezed the pencil very hard and drew very lightly it's weird I know 😅
Im only having trouble with moving your elbow because i cant imagine what it would look like i just keep tuinf if shoulder one when im tryna visualize the elbow one
I squeeze my pen when I write but when I draw I hold so lightly that I slips across the table 😅😅

When I sketch using pen I kind of just do a bunch of scratches in one direction and it works out some how...

Ironic because when I draw I do the later but I feel like it's the opposite of being confident. It just makes things look better if I stuff up
I cannot hold the pencil steady when I’m floating the pencil TvT) always need something to rest my elbow on so idk how to use my shoulders
try standing.
