    Edward closes his eyes when Augusta says he has only treated her with respect; he had to make her hate him.

    I think in this scene Edward realized how innocent and sincere Augusta is and how she’s loved in a way he never saw in his family, and realizes he really can’t hurt her. Also, i love how Augusta always points out, this season and last,Charlotte’s influence over Colbourne, while Charlotte’s just like “uh, nah, no idea what you mean”.

    This was such a clever scene. That Colburn looks at Charlotte, making one more plea that she chose love, choose him, while talking to Augusta at the same time.

    So many layers -- so much going on here. Each person in the room is really changing from what he or she was/believed in the past, and it all seems to be internal, but reflected on each face.

    I actually believe Edward had a heartfelt moment! Probably a first! He finally did the right thing!❤👏🏻👍🏻

      Or perhaps he realized the inheritance might not be of substantial value if the uncle ( colburne) was allowing his niece to make the decision!

      I agree with Ann Marie. I think he said those hurtful things to Augusta because he realized he could not be the man she deserved and she was so smitten she couldn't accept that. Watch Edward's face while Alexander is telling her how much he values her.

      @@abbaschild2499 I agree. I believe that the Hankins, or should I say Miss Hankins more so than her brother, has really touched Edward in some way, not necessarily in a religious way, but through her kind influence, he finally found his conscience. Edward knows that Augusta deserves much better than him. Also, his remarks to his aunt, Lady Denham, the way that he expressed them, strongly suggests that he really had been 'undone' by Augusta, as he had previously confessed to Miss Hankins.

    • @user-lr7ei4er7o
      @user-lr7ei4er7o Před 8 měsíci

      I truly believe Edward loved Augusta, but realized he could not marry her because of the prejudices of the people who knew what he used to be. I agree about Miss Hankins 'getting to' Edward through her kindness and heartfelt caring for him, and that actually began the change in Edward. He has a lot of regrets: Esther, Clara, the fact that his son will never be in his life. There truly should be a movie or something to give the fans more closure. To see Augusta meet some agreeable young man and have a 'normal' courtship. To see Susan and Samuel visit from London for a Colbourne Christmas. To see Leonora grow and become a brilliant young woman. To see Lady Denham have her family around her, during a holiday or summer visit--wouldn't we all want to see Esther and Lord Babington again? To find out how Georgiana, Otis, and her mother are doing. Arthur. All of the Parkers. A visit from Alison and Declan, with their family. So many possibilities, that we'll never get to see.@@mysticalmargaret6105

    Alexander s'adresse à sa nièce : regardons-le, écoutons--le !
    Qui regarde-t-il ? Charlotte !
    Que dit-il ? Il répète ce que Charlotte lui a confié lors de leur voyage commun, il suit les conseils qu'elle lui a demandé d'avoir vis-à-vis de Augusta.
    IL ÉCOUTE CHARLOTTE !
    IL COMPREND CE QU'ELLE DIT !
    IL A TELLEMENT CONFIANCE EN SES JUGEMENTS !
    IL ENTEND ET APPLIQUE TOUS SES CONSEILS !
    IL L'AIME, ELLE EST SON GUIDE, ELLE EST SON TOUT !
    Quelle FABULEUSE, GRANDIOSE, MERVEILLEUSE HISTOIRE D'AMOUR !
    Tout sonne vrai, tout est d'une INTENSITÉ INCROYABLE !
    On y croit, on en rêve, on peut s'y projeter : Charlotte et Alexander marqueront notre mémoire collective pour le futur !
    Leur amour est d'une PURETÉ totale, d'une FORCE que rien ne détruira, d'une INTENSITÉ jamais atteinte.
    UN TEL HOMME QUI AIME AINSI AIME POUR LA VIE !

    Cette série est vraiment passionnante pour preuves tous ces commentaires sur la psychologie riche des personnages. On pourrait en faire des dissertations...
    Je voudrais juste ajouter que je suis épatée par le fait que Colbourne traite si bien ses "prétendues" filles : Leo qui est la fille de l'épouse infidèle et Augusta une nièce par alliance du côté de l'épouse infidèle. Ni l'une ni l'autre n'a de lien de sang avec Alexander. Cela montre son haut sens moral. Il aime aussi en Charlotte la relation qu'elle a avec les filles. Il lui en parle souvent, presque à chaque fois. Certes c'est une métaphore de ses propres sentiments envers Charlotte mais il y a plus que cela. Sûr qu'il est un excellent père, un homme droit et affectueux. On le voit d'ailleurs porter le bébé à la fin ce qui doit être exceptionnel pour l'époque. Enfin, je voudrais dire que je suis aussi touchée par la fierté qu'il montre pour sa femme (scène du mariage où il lui laisse prendre toute la lumière quand elle fait le tour des convives). Il a l'air de ne pas revenir d'être son époux ! Une histoire d'amour à la fois passionnée et raisonnée (ils s'aiment aussi par leur complicité, leur ressemblance au final sur la façon d'appréhender la vie et les êtres) et une histoire de famille au sens large puisqu'il n'y a qu'un enfant du sang. C'est merveilleux et très moderne. C'est la femme qui révèle l'homme qu'Alexander avait déjà en lui.

      Agreed. That being said, what is past is past. The girls are both very much Alexander's now. He is as much a father to Leo had he fathered her himself, and it is the same with Augusta. They have created their own unique and loving family, thanks in very large part to Charlotte! 🙂

    1:44 That look is so telling. Why does Edward look over at Alexander with that expression? It’s such a small detail but it has major significance. I believe Edward purposely looked at Alexander in that way was so to try to convey that he was going to purposely hurt Augusta. Xander should’ve punched Edward in the face for what he said. Seems to me both men understood each other enough with just the looks alone.

    She learned a very harsh lesson. I think he actually decided to do the right thing though. He knew what he was doing to her was wrong, and decided to tell the truth. Better than to subject her to a loveless marriage and miserable life.

  • @ninotchka101
    @ninotchka101 Před rokem +12

    Thanks, friends. I can only echo what you have expressed so well -
    Edward DOES tell the truth - maybe for the first time in his adult life?
    The cruelty of his honesty is hard to absorb: He tells Augusta, “I’ve never been in love with you. It has only been your inheritance I wanted. Not you.”
    Like you have said, I feel so badly for Augusta. I’m so glad she’s got a wonderful support system to help her out of this emotional heartbreak.
    Edward puts out there what we have known for too long: “I always put myself first.”
    It’s time for Edward to see how he has hurt so many people. But he’s not capable of owning up to that, in my opinion.

    I think they did Edward dirty. I really wanted to see a redemption arc for him, like falling for Augusta made him realize that there was more to life than money and maliciousness. It’s a step forward for his character that he was ultimately honest and didn’t ruin Augusta, but they were a good match intellectually

    • @mysticalmargaret6105
      @mysticalmargaret6105 Před rokem +11

      Intellectually, Augusta can do much better. I can't get over the fact that Edward was slowly poisoning Esther with laudanum, trying to get her committed to an insane asylum! He has yet to pay for that crime, which would have meant the gallows in those days. He has a son by Cora, out of wedlock which would have been a HUGE scandal in the Regency/Georgian period. That is another thing, he's a womanizer, and was very much a fortune hunter. And, imo, he's much too old and worldly for the teenaged Augusta. And he used Leo, who is just a child, to deceive Alexander. Edward was unworthy of a wonderful girl like Augusta. And she deserves much better than Edward! She deserves a nice, decent young man of good reputation, closer to her age, without such a criminal and scandalous background. I was appalled when they were paired up. I was hoping for a fresh new young love romance for Augusta. I'm glad that Alexander and Charlotte found them in time!
