That was amazing. Thank CZcams algorithm. The poly rhythms. The triplets. The dynamics. The ghost notes. The touch. The musicality. And lastly the bassist holding down the “rolling stone” groove perfectly. I could watch this on a loop.
Agreed, Jonathan... this solo alone is some of the finest drumming on so many levels. Billy Kilson is one of the greatest drummers and musicians... EVER !!! His feel, his choices, musical maturity, attitude... he serves the song and only shows off a bit when it’s exactly what’s called for... but not from his ego... like almost all other drummers out there. He’s just a master on a deep, deep level. All Hail, Billy Kilson !!!
I think all the legendary drummers have a different feel and virtuosity. Billy Kilson is awesome, moves in rhythm with his instrument and therefore plays on a different level. Art Blakey still remains my no. 1 drummer - when it came to speed and timing Blakey was another level. Steve Gadd is all class and precision. Dave Weckl all metronomic timing. Billy Cobham all swagger with little effort. Drumming has to come from the natural rhythm within - what set aparts the top drummers from the rest.
I saw Billy touring years ago with Chris Botti and witnessed the most amazingly melodic, and masterful drumming performance I’ve ever experienced (and I’ve seen many of the greats). Kilson was as fun, funny and entertaining to simply watch as he was to hear play. What an incredible gift! If he comes to your town, move heaven and earth to be there!
Damn, but you've got to have your own rhythmic sh!t together to play with a guy like that. He never loses the beat - but he'll syncopate off to Pluto, and if you don't know where "1" is, you'll never find it by listening to him.
Man, I love his playing. So much better with my eyes closed. I know it's just me, but his 'showmanship' is annoying as hell. Very kitschy and stereotypical. But most definitely a monster player.

People need to know that Billy Kilson is playing at an in unfathomable level. No joke he is a musical genius.
Damn straight.
Yep,. I prefer him over Nate in Dave Holland Quintet (and Nate is a beast)

i've seen him in concert twice with Chris Botti and still cannot get enough of this fantastic artistry!

Timing feel is off the charts!
One of the rare drummers who can derive music essence from his showmanship.
Does anyone know if there footage of the whole song or set?
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Ahh yeah, that was great! Now that's drumming!👏👏👏👏👍
Let's get together Marcus millet
I remembered late ‘Dennis Davis’.
Он выше ритма , владеет временем
The best drummer.
Bass line of Papa was a rolling stone, from Lee Ritenour version

Meu professor , aprendo muito contigo

Drummer or musician?
It must be so hard to vamp with him lmao
In the begining
that bass riff he's playing too is, Pappa was a rolling stone by the Temptations
Outstanding solo,great drummer
🌱🙄💙🌾
War ... derfull 😚
He messed up a couple of times, but he was still good.
The gum is the secret to his godly nature.
He's always chewing the gum.
Makes his instrument speak...amazing...
I can click my fingers ;p

He definitely chooses the road less travelled. He rides up front with the rest of the trail blazers.
This doesn't sound like the *Foreigner* song.
Kenny smith ? Lmao 🤣
2 min of head-scratching, go-figure insanity 🤔
I like the dynamics and musical ideas, but!!
When he does the metric modulation excerpt the meter is tentative!!!sorry!!!!
so nasty!
He's ok
Its because of his chewing on a bubble gum these gummy fills ...try it
The big nothing than driss.
Its all a out musical expresion
