Nintendo Killed Samus in Fortnite for a Dumb Reason

- Metroid's Samus Aran ALMOST made it into Fortnite, but Nintendo wouldn't let it happen unless Epic Games accepted this dumb condition.

Kind of reminds me how Link and Samus were considered for Marvel Ultimate Alliance until Nintendo realized they'd show up on the PS2 version of the game.
Here's the thing they were NEVER going to do it because we're not Japanese
i mean is pretty dumb to go behind their backs like that in the first place is not really a good way to build a relationship.
If I remember correctly, their main mistake was the devs shared screenshots with playstation buttons in-game as they made their pitch.
@Yoshizuyuner ah yes because they used blue ink instead of red ink
Suct your ass up the only reason they assumed ps2 were the buttons not the controls at all
Yeah but that's even more stupid, it's just another reason of why we can't have nice things with Nintendo @@Mario1080p
I mean it’s not all that surprising. Link was only in the GameCube version of Soul Calibur 2, and when the HD version came out they put Heihachi and Spawn in all versions, but Link was completely absent because there was no Nintendo version of SC2 HD. The Nintendo content in Lego City Undercover is also only in the Wii U and Switch versions, while PlayStation and Xbox had that content removed.
There are non-Nintendo versions of Lego City Undercover?
@@pkmntrainermark8881there's a PC version, i heard it's the worst one

@@pkmntrainermark8881 The original was a Wii U exclusive, so it had some Nintendo references in it. There was a rerelease later that had some minor extra features like two-player, and came out on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC. Only the Switch version of this rerelease kept the Nintendo references.
Epic: “We want every player to have the same quality experience, no matter the platform.”
Nintendo: “No.”
"No matter the platform" is a pretty big deal to a brand that makes IPs *and* platforms.

Didn’t seem to be a big deal for Microsoft and Sony. If 2/3 give the okay, you’re in the wrong for backing out of the deal. Especially when your platform consistently has the worst issues for said game.

Thats actually weird because Mario, Luigi, and Samus, themed cars are playable on all platforms from Rocket League, and in Sky: Children of the Light, there are Zelda cosmetics that you can give your Sky Child and it appears on all available platforms.
Those aren't the characters themselves though. They're just themed after the characters.
I can't speak for the others, but I know the Mario and Luigi stuff in Rocket League is only visible to Switch players. So if you have Mario or Luigi stuff equipped, anyone who isn't playing on Switch won't see them on your car
No, the Samus and Mario cars in Rocket League aren't visible on anything but the Switch and honestly I felt like I got scamed at the time because of that
The Nintendo cars can only be seen and accessed on the switch
Not true, you can only see them on the Switch. What are you on about?
I just imagine Samus in her ship flying across space seeing all the weird Brocken up space of Fornite thinking… “nope”
Yeah, we know.

I can see why. It wouldn't make sense for a badass like Samus to break out into a Fortnite dance.
Have you never seen the other characters they added in Fortnite before? Samus in Fortnite would not be far-fetched at all.
Make it with AI
Let's be honest, Samus not being in Fortnite is a good thing. Why would you want a suited Samus without an arm cannon shooting a rifle? Characters like Aang, Goku, and Ryu don't even make sense to appear in Fortnite anyway.
Exactly.
Be honest, you just wanna gate keep metroid
Oh my God, who the hell cares? I just want to play as Samus in the game.
I know right. I hate how everything has to be in Fortnite for no reason.

Good Nintendo.
Gatekeeping their IP from this garbage.
.... sounds like a 1st world problem
Just like the little health-related situation found in Luigi's Mansion 3 that they griped about on video as well.
okay?
Honestly, I'm glad Nintendo vetoed samus appearing in fortnite. The Metroid series is too dignified and sophisticated for samus to shoot some other character in the head with a regular gun, and subsequently do some goofy dance.
That is what i was thinking about
Nintendo is extremely protective of their IPs, it's always been a thing sadly.
Because I would have loved to see Link and Zelda outside of it's home series and be in like Genshin Impact.
They already did, back in the 90s. Remember the "legendary" Zelda CD-i games?
Link was in Soul Calibur 2, Bowser and Donkey Kong were Skylanders, and based on what the Activision devs said about designing the latter, as long as you're willing to put up with their initial demands, they're surprisingly lenient.
Let's be clear, they DO NOT bargain on some things, certain terms are final, take it or leave it, but they actually encourage creativity in the crossovers that they DO greenlight!
In fact, Hammer Slam Bowser's Magma Bowser form was originally just going to be either Giga Bowser or Dry Bowser, and Nintendo looked at the concepts and said, "That's boring! Do something cool and unique!" And this Magma Bowser.
Hyrule Warriors was born from Koei presenting Nintendo with their take on a Zelda game, and one of the bigwigs at Nintendo was all like, "make the gameplay more like Pirate Warriors 2, that looks fun and different", so on and so forth.
Damn it nintendo. Missed one of the easiests chances to give Metroid the recognition it deserves.
Not a dumb reason. They realize their appeal is their games, and they want you to come to their platform for their games and characters
Tbh having a character in fortnite is basically an advertisement at this point there’s no reason not to allow it. Nintendo is just really weird about their ip.
1:23
I don't blame Nintendo for this. I believe they have every good reason to hold their I.P.s *away* from third-party platforming, especially considering just how INSANE it is for Epic to suddenly handpick characters from outside their *original roster...,* something I grew tired of a long time ago....
Plot Twist: Nintendo rejected the offer of having Samus in Fortnite because they are not ready to witness Samus hitting the griddy with Goku and Thanos.
10 yr old: Samus is from fortnite
I think that's the real problem here.
🍑🍑🍑🍑🍑
I mean I feel like it'd be weird to see Samus with a gun, at least in the armor, but you know Nintendo remember how they were with marvel alliance or rocket League.

Yeah, only her zero suit form could work I think.
@@goldenninja9053 yeah but the players would abuse her like how they did with Chun Lee from Street Fighter

PS Plus has exclusive skins for Fortnite
BUT
you can switch platforms and continue playing with these skins as long as had originally earned them on PlayStation
Also, others cam still SEE those skins.
There are Metroid and Mario themed cars for Rocket League
HOWEVER
to an opponent, teammate, or even youself on another platform, these just look like the most basic and generic vehicle skins
(which REALLY feels silly)
I think it’s for the best that Samus wasn’t in Fortnite. I don’t want to hear kids saying, “Look, it’s Samus from Fortnite”
They Massacre Kratos, Doom Slayer, Master Chief, but Samus will be safe

Nintendo is keeping their 1st party characters on their system, same as always.
It’s actually quite smart of them.
Someone doesn't understand marketing.
@@BaronSterling You’re obviously not talking about Nintendo, because they’re doing pretty great in the market.
@@AncientSkullKid No, I'm talking about you. Considering you think console exclusivity is a "smart" choice, when recent years have shown that is absolutely not the case.

I’m glad this didn’t happen, Nintendo characters should never be in Fortnite, the same also goes for Sonic the Hedgehog.
This isn't new. You guys just dug up old news lol. Also, if they didn't go for the zero suit option, how would Samus work in the game? Doesn't she always have the arm cannon on her at all times?
Side note: Epic might be a bit picky, as Nintendo made a similar deal with Rocket League, which that one went through, giving us Mario, Luigi, and Metroid related stuff.
This would've been excellent exposure. What the heck Nintendo??
What's next, you'll stop making DVD copies of the Mario Movie because the Xbox has a built-in Blu-ray player??
I think this is perfectly justified. I'm honestly surprised and baffled that Sony and Microsoft would allow their characters to appear on competing platforms, especially considering they've kept their characters as console exclusives in other games in the past (such as the Xbox skin pack on the Xbox versions of Minecraft and Kratos only showing up in the Playstation 3 version of Mortal Kombat 2011)
Seeing Samus in her powersuit using any other weapons but her own would be weird anyways.
A ZSS using the normal fortnite loadouts would be fine though.
Why should Samus be another character know as "that character from Fortnite"?
I'm totally fine that samus didn't show up in Fortnite. I remember Goku in Fortnite with a gun...to see this has feels wrong and dumb in my eyes 😅 I don't need hundred of colaps to play a game I like...but Nowadays most of online shooter or games in generell do it 😔

It came out during the lawsuits, but this time it was officially stated and confirmed in an interview
Im just curious how they'd do her right arm.
So, basically, it's the same as Marcel Marceau saying the one line spoken in "Silent Movie," "NO!"

Consumers once again throwing a tantrum over a business being a business.
As you pointed out, we already knew this from the lawsuit. And that's the exact reason -they wanted Samus to be exclusive to Nintendo consoles only and Fortnite doesn't do that sort of collab exclusivity.
I feel like this is Epic Games’ request. Not Nintendo’s.
@@justinyoon2840 to which part? Epic wanted them yes, but Nintendo are the ones who wanted the exclusivity to their own console.
@@roll3886 Epic Games WANTED Samus in the game, but Nintendo declined the offer from them because they only said to be visible from switch owners. Epic then disagreed. I felt that Epic Games started all this. Not Nintendo. Nintendo didn’t went to Epic Games and requested to put Samus in fortnite.
@@justinyoon2840 I see what you're saying. I agree that Epic approached them and wanted to discuss the collaboration but Nintendo said not unless it's Nintendo exclusive.
@@roll3886 Correct. Because the characters that were created from Nintendo belongs to them and aren’t gonna be distributed to other games unless they get involved in a collaboration or event. That’s why all of Nintendo’s characters are exclusive. Rocket League and Skylanders allowed it to happen only for Nintendo console because I think Nintendo were in talks with the developers, or they went to Nintendo to use their characters but only in Nintendo consoles in which they allowed to. Epic Games disagreed because their main top hit game fortnite allows characters from different franchises to come over freely, not just in Nintendo. So Epic is the one at fault here. Not just Samus, but I also heard that they wanted to bring in some other Nintendo characters as well since they must’ve saw the popularity of Nintendo’s characters.

Super glad Samus isnt in Fortnite
Pretty much confirms the theory of that condition being the main reason. It's not the first time they used that condition with that Rocket League X Mario car skin crossover. It can only be visible for those who play on the switch version and default skin on other platforms.
Also it's not about Nintendo saying no, but rather Epic in not accepting their condition they've been using since Soul Calibur 2.
I have forgotten that these skins exist.

@@runningoncylinders3829 This actually wouldn't be the first time. Nintendo did this with the CDi and were a lot more liberal with licensing their IP. It didn't work out for them.
I feel like this was already discussed, way back when the original documents about this wee released, and it just makes sense from Nintendo's side. At the very least, it's consistent with the way they have operated for the longest time
I mean...I also kinda blame Epic. It's ONE skin out of the millions you sell...you couldn't make ONE exclusive to Switch?
They probably didn’t want to make multiple versions of the same game. I imagine for compatibility reasons with other platforms, they wanted to keep everything the same.
@@PianistTanookiThey would have only needed to make one condition check that would basically be "IsRunningOnNintendo" and if it turns false, Disable Samus from the locker, But that's the problem. Epic said "let's have an equal experience where no-one needs to be left out on new cool stuff" and nintendo said Nuh uh.
@@SawBSketch Yes, but I understand both sides.
Epic wanted to keep the game the same across all platforms for compatibility, and Nintendo wants to keep their characters exclusive to their platforms. Even if they don't make them available on the other platforms, Nintendo don't like the thought of any of their characters even making an APPEARANCE on a gaming console that isn't their own. They've been like this for decades, there is no reason why they will change in this regard, unless they went third party altogether (which won't be happening any time soon). They're extremely protective of their IP because it's the IP that give Nintendo their worth. Without the value of these beloved IP, Nintendo would be nothing.
This is why comparing them to Sony and Microsoft is beyond misinformed. Nintendo isn't anything like those companies. Microsoft's market cap is just under $3 TRILLION, whereas Nintendo's is somewhere in the $50 billion range. Microsoft and Sony are much bigger, they can afford to be more lax with their IP and potentially risk them being devalued, as this wouldn't really hurt them at all. They can survive independent from the gaming industry, Nintendo can't.
Am glad Samus didn't made got in Fortnite... Thank you Nintendo
Stupid? Really!? Pffft!
This policy has served Nintendo well, and I think it would be stupid to suggest otherwise. It’s only smart to take care of your intellectual property and not dilute them with every mediocre fad.
Nintendo being overly protective of their IP´s is no surprise, specially about Metroid. Remember the AM2R case years ago. The thing is we´ll never see Nintendo characters on Fortnite.
But really, that’s on Fortnite. Because Nintendo did give them permission with one exception. Epic refused.

Like I was everyone else said Nintendo was the most sensitive company in the world
It was no surprise to me that Samus was declined by Nintendo to appear in Fortnite. I've always known that Fortnite is a multiplatform game that the developers of that game are wanting the same experience for all players no matter what platform they play Fortnite on. I have not seen any game that has multiplatform experiences with crossover characters have Nintendo IPs on other consoles other than being exclusive to Nintendo consoles only.
Well that was obvious, they thats how all collabs have worked in the past, and just like the last time someone tried to do this in a marvel game back on gamceube and ps2 when they put samus on the ps2 version nintendo ended the collab. Its nothing new and everyone had pretty much figured that out already.

That's fine. It's not like Fortnite needed Samus for their character roster anyway.
It’s not even the first time Samus has been vetoed from a third party game. Marvel Ultimate Alliance for Wii would have had Samus and even Link appear. They had some models and animations. Not sure if you can still find them on CZcams.
The reason why Nintendo didn’t allow Marvel to include Link and Samus is because the footage shown of them was on the PS2, not the Wii.
@mickmufson1824 At least Vicarious Visions avoided the same mistake with Skylanders Superchargers.
@@X2011racer Oh yeah, they added Bowser and Donkey Kong in Skylanders but only in the Nintendo versions, since that game also included Crash Bandicoot and Spyro The Dragon, I thought that both Crash and Spyro would be new fighters for Super Smash Bros Ultimate, unfortunately neither of them got in, not even as spirits.
Mojang also avoided the same problem when they added a Mario Mashup Pack to Minecraft, as the Nintendo Switch bedrock edition does not allow the use of Mario related content if being played in cross platform multiplayer.
It’s also not the only Third Party Wii game that was going to include Nintendo character(s) but was removed, you remember how the Xbox 360 version of Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing had Banjo-Kazooie as a guest character? The Wii version was also going to have a guest character, which would’ve been Mario, but Sega later decided to not include him as they only wanted Mario and Sonic to meet in the Olympic Games, even though they allowed Sonic in Brawl and later both Smash 4 and Ultimate.
Nintendo doing Nintendo thing’s as usual
Nintendo needs to get over themselves. They aren’t the Gods of Gaming anymore. If they allowed their characters to go on other platforms it would be top 10 gaming announcements in all history
They are still the #1 in the gaming market than Microsoft and Sony. Most games they make become BANGERS. You HADN’T KNOW THAT? 😂😂
that is an incredibly harsh video title guys, holy fuck
After *Link appearing in SoulCalibur 2,* don't expect any Nintendo character to appear "outside" of the Nintendo ecosystem (i.e. any game that is available *outside* Nintendo platform).
Link was only playable in the gamecube version
Even Link was only on the gamecube version of SC II so it still followed their rule/standards
Soul Calibur 2 originally had one exclusive character for each of the GameCube (Link), PS2 (Heihachi) and Xbox (Spawn). And the HD version, that only released on PS3 and Xbox 360, included only Heihachi and Spawn. So Nintendo’s standard still applied back then.
But that was still in the GCN version only.
Same with Tekken tag tournament 2 Wii u
Imagine hearing Samus from Fortnite and not Samus from Smash Bros. I really wish we got to see Samus in Fortnite, if they included her around the time of Dread's hype cycle, it would've been crazy.
...So Nintendo wanted Epic Games to pull a _SoulCalibur II (featuring Link from the Zelda series)_ for platform-exclusive revenue... Figures. 😑

*Pretends to be surprised*
I mean, Nintendo not allowing their properties on non-Nintendo platforms is as much of a fact as liquid water makes things wet: it's such a universally applicable law that we don't see changing ever

Gamexplain are starved of any new news, they decide to dig up old news to satiate their need for content.
Oh we'll I could honestly careless, I just want Metroid Prime 4.
because Nintendo wanted it to be Nintendo exclusive and only wanted switch players to be able to see it, so anyone wanting Nintendo characters in fortnite will never ever happen because Nintendo will always want to always be exclusive to Nintendo consoles and only visable to Nintendo players only

I do not play Fortnite, but find this news to be kind of sad. I am not surprised since Nintendo is still out of touch like the rest of the entertainment industry. However, I honestly do not know how else to change their mind other than tell that console exclusivity is dying right now, so their IPs will appear in other consoles, anyway.
I know that Samus was on the rocks right next to those street fighter characters I wish that nintendo will make a choice that Samus will be in Fortnite just like snake got in fortnite Samus wants to be in fortnite too because Samus was the best character and by far the perfect character in smash bros history if fortnite didn't known that there was a secret symbol of smash bros ultimate icon was on chapter 2 of fortnite look at the stemmed place. 😮😊

Not in fortshit. Not now, not ever.
With all this influence Epic Games has on the market, I’m surprised they didn’t delist Fortnite from Switch in retaliation, just like they did with Apple
The Apple thing was on a much bigger scale about the micro transactions and stuff. Epic might make some weird decisions sometimes, but they wouldn't delist Fortnite from the Switch over a skin.
Well after that experience you would think Epic would be more tougher when dealing with things like licensing, since Fortnite is now one of the biggest video games of all time.
Who do you think Epic Games is? A god? 😂
Apple was more than happy to erase all games that used Epic Games' Unreal Engine from the App Store but couldn't due to the law.
Nintendo doesn't need and wouldn't care about Fortnite. They aren't rich and successful due to Fortnite.
Epic Games needs these 2 companies more than they need Epic. That's why they throw a fit every few minutes when they don't get their way and try to masquerade it as a "consumer goodwill"
Epic should have just accepted it. Switch users need some sort of incentive for having the graphically lowest version of the game. Ah well, at least we have Lady Gaga and Billie Eilish to play as.
I highly object. That's not a dumb reason. It's protecting their brand and rightfully so.
Also just because Fortnite makes billions by ripping off children's parents does not mean it needs to be taken seriously. It's a mid shooter at best.
Having Samus in Fortnite let alone on competitors platforms devalues their IP. Almost like selling out. Should be reserved for special events. Putting her in Fortnite is no better than putting her in something like Brawhalla. Tacky as hell.
I get that tho it’s Nintendo’s IP, they want to respect it,
🤓
I don’t get why most people would want Samus in Fortnite that badly. Obviously Nintendo themselves ain’t gonna allow it.
