Kayo KT250 Pipe Upgrade

  • More Power! After taking the Kayo KT250 into the tough single-track of The Holler it was clear that we needed more bottom-end power. Modifying the GPX TSE250R pipe has become a popular mod due to both bikes using the same Yamaha DT230 engine. It took some work but nothing too hard about this swap, and WHOA does it make a difference! If you're in the Midwest check out CC Powersports for your next KAYO!

      Yeah, it has a great pop to it now and it's way more luggable down low. I put the high performance CDI from GPX on it this morning and it's crazy how much different the bike feels now. It feels like a real Enduro 2 stroke. Peppy off the bottom while still remaining smooth and the bike will wheelie easily now. Can't wait for it to dry up so I can ride it on trails again. super happy so far

    Some of the fellas over across the pond in Africa and Europe are taking a yZ 250 pipe and adapting their stock header inlet and welding it to a YZ 250 Expansion chamber and getting significant performance gains from it.
    I, however, would probably use my FMF Gnarly expansion chamber and a T-304 silencer and do some custom work to fit it. I bet I would see that opening that rascal up some.
    I have had really good luck with that combo on other woods bikes in the past. I know it probably sounds like sacrilege cobbling FMF together with ProCircuit but it really has been a wonderful combo on my 2T wide ratio bikes in the past; providing much better bottom and mid range grunt. I found I didn't need to wring the engine's guts out half as much. If the GPX pipe doesn't get you the results you are hoping for you may consider trying the YZ chamber.

    • @evelkestriegel
      @evelkestriegel  Před 2 lety +2

      Yeah I've been following those guys as well but I like the fact that this pipe is tuned for this engine. We'll see how it feels this weekend. Feels great just riding around the house.

      @@evelkestriegel yeah I can understand that. GPX has spent some time working with the engine to get the most out of it. I think that Kayo has a better frame and running gear where GPX has more in the way of tuner mods. Either way the engine if it is anything like the Yamaha it is patented after will provide great durability for years to come. Let us see a revisit when the ground is not slimy.

And interesting seeing under your seat. I got the 250 EFI and they stuffed the ecu right behind your cdi with one bolt. It fits, but looks like an afterthough. Over all I love mine, but considering maybe trading for the KT since Im suddenly limited to really tight single track for the next year or two. It might be a coot hair lighter and 2T smoother.

    Are there any other good alternatives to the pipe you used . It's out of stock. I just bought a 2 stroke for the first time and I am confused. Are most expansion chambers interchangeable regarding the position of the spot where they bolt to the head. Like if I were to go buy a 250 yamaha chamber , would it bolt onto the kt250. Or are modifications needed for any change

    • @evelkestriegel
      @evelkestriegel  Před rokem +2

      No, they're not interchangeable, each pipe is specifically tuned for each engine and the mounting is different from bike to bike. Unfortunately yes, the gpx pipe has become hard to find but I have seen a lot of people custom mounting KTM 200 pipes in the kayo kt250 riders group on Facebook. Lots of cutting and welding but they make it work. I've also seen guys wake the bike up with changing jetting and gearing in that group

      Not sure what the limit is but after installing it this morning the bike runs even cleaner now. I had just heard that it was the move if you went to the GPX pipe to also put the GPX high Rev CDI box on it so I did it for the extra 30 bucks. I don't I don't think the CDI is necessary but I do think that the motor is even smoother and has more low and grunt. Can't wait to get it out on the trail

      GPX TSE250 pipe. But, kayo offers a performance pipe now that bolts on with no issue. I definitely recommend going that route

    If you had to start over would you just get a used Yamaha

    • @evelkestriegel
      @evelkestriegel  Před 3 měsíci

      Interesting... I own both, I think for hard enduro and general trail riding the KT doesn't get as hot and the estart is WAY more beneficial for trail riding and hard enduro, if I were racing XC and wanted to ride some mx with the same bike I'd go yamaha
