Nice to know your willing to teach us how to use cheat engine more appropiately i gotta ask if your gonna make future vids helping us out with Cheat Engine in somegames i have found cheats like health money etc... and i save them whenever i exit the game and enter again i used that cheat table that i save but the cheat doesn't work and i gotta look for another new value i was thinking if you can make a video on how to make those cheats permanent so you don't always have to look for a new value every time you enter a game if it posible
Yep! That's covered in this video. That's what the script is for. The script finds the value for you so you don't have to find it again.

What happens when our emulator uses Jit compilation? Yuzu and Duckstation seem to, and I'm having trouble getting around this issue. Seems like it's for someone advanced. Restarting the emulator will leave you with all the compiled code changed.

Nope. PC's use little endian, which is the default in cheat engine (just 2 byte, 4 byte, float). The Switch (Yuzu) is also little endian.

for a layman with sort of short attention span, I actually understand the code menu jargon a bit more after watching it. having a flycast/retroarch/dc all in one console, I at least have an inkling of how to narrow down the initial xxxxxxxxx number of cheats that pop up. would probably have to watch many more times to find out how to input a cheat manually.

Thank you so much for this tutorial. Hardly anyone does these video's for emulators and following the other videos never worked. The only problem I ran into is when I tried this on fire emblem(ryujinx emulator) I was unable to scan for AOB unless I checked the copyonwrite box for some reason. Is that specific to ryujinx or is it needed on some searches?
Actually, I should have mentioned a few other settings you need - check the memmapped option under scan settings, veh debugger under debugger, and on the on the main CE window make sure writable is squared like executable (not checked, squared. :)
Hey ik this is old but i am stuck and was curious about something
So basically i followed your tutorial but with Link Between Worlds
The goal was to make hearts not give health but potions and fairys still do
So it would be a more proper hero mode
I found the address that affects healing however if i disable it, it disable all healing
Not just hearts
And i was wondering if there was a way to separate them so i could only disable hearts
Or if there would be a easy way to just disable hearts from even appearing

Join my Discord. It would be easier to guide you there. :) First thought would be to hook an instruction that gives you just the health you want. Then you can just freeze it.
yes, actually what he disabled is an instruction and for emulator it can be worse, these can be shared instruction all over you game, just think like you are modifying processor instruction, it will change all the values it access, but if it is a health changing function's instruction it will change only health, but if it is game instruction (not possible in emu almost, depends how the emu works, our pc do not parse those usually), if the same thing happens we can create a script for differentiability scanner and separate the use of instruction for health and whatever you want to accomplish
Please help me, every time I do right click and choose find out what writes to this address on the value that I found on PPSSPP the emulator got crashed. I've also try to do pointer scan on it, but it ends blank (no result) on the second pointer scan (rescan).
That's a really great tutorial. However, When I try to see what instruction accesses or writes to my selected value, the debugger just doesn't gives me any output showing the code or instruction that writes to my selected value, no matter how many times I satisfy or trigger the action necessary for the instruction to write to my selected result. I'm using VEH debugger, and the Android emulator I use is LDplayer. Please help if you can.

I ask because I have been banging my head against the wall trying to find an unknown health value to no avail. And for the first time ever (and only from you) I am hearing regarding little vs big endian pertaining to console emulators.
From what I'm reading, it uses little endian, so that's standard 2,4,float

I tried searching for everything, even "all" and I've tried "changed/unchanged" instead of "decreased/increased" value but still I can't for the life of me find the health value. Someone provided a cheat code for the health but it's for the Japanese version of the game, and it makes some of your enemies invincible too. I'd really like to A) find the health for the US version and B) NOT allow any of the enemies to become invincible too. Any guidance you can offer me would be immensely appreciated.
@@Postposterous I finally got it thanks. The problem was that the stage I picked to hack it at, the opponent was too strong and killing me too fast. I chose a less difficult opponent and managed to hack it just fine. Thanks again
EDIT: Another thing that was contributing to the difficulty I was facing was that when i was right clicking a line in cheat engine to click "find out what access this", my mouse was bugging out and making me accidentally click "remove the selected address" lol. That was obviously messing me up.
Okay, so this was quite helpful for a lot of stuff, but I'm having issues with something. I want to freeze/disable the food effect timer. I found a couple addresses that were counting down with the timer. One only updated when opening the menu, so that's obviously not it, but changing either one had no effect on the timer anyway. Clearly there's something else going on that I just don't get.
Never mind. I found it by searching with float values.
How do I do this with stats like atk in rpg games like if they said hp like 5000/6300 how would I get Max hp on both of those numbers
I've tried to do it with NFL Street on GameCube but the value only remains the same visually. So for example, I have 100 points and I spend 75. While the game still shows that I have 100, I really only have 25. Any suggestions?

@@Postposterous it's not the toughness to be honest they're way too long, especially the 3rd phase.
But like in general a save cheat would be nice to save in shrines(the longer ones) aswell without having to start at the beginning.

I've tried every single thing to try and hack HP on xbox xenia emu for ninety-nine nights, not a single thing works. Not 1 thing can be hacked at all. Is there any other way to hack HP on 360 emu? Every time I search for a value, lower, any changes, I get 0 results or a few that are constantly red and changing by the second, freezing, changing the numbers does nothing what so ever.

beautiful tutorial, I want to ask, If in a game I have a character that uses a costume in a mode different from the story game, the main one.... what i have to search to make a swap character in story mode with that costume? Its the same character, same posture, same animation, same weapons, just another main menù activity selection, because in a previous version for ps2 i used code-breakers cheats that do the job....i just want to do the same results in the hd version of the same game for ps3 in rpcs3.
You got a lottttt of learning to do homie. What you’re trying to do will more than likely involve more work than this. Look up some tutorials.
8:34 I'm just focusing on the 1st top line since that what I right-clicked, How would I know how many lines should I highlight in the first place? Why 3 Lines just as you did?
Good question. I highlighted 3 lines as a starting point to get a unique aob (array of bytes). If I'd only selected one line, chances are, there are other instances of those same bytes within the assembly, so it would return multiple results. We only want to return 1 result. So, I grabbed 3 lines in the hopes that the longer string of bytes wouldn't exist anywhere else in the assembly except for the instruction I want. You can include as many or as few lines as it takes. Just test each by doing a new 'array of bytes' scan. If it only returns one result, you're good, but if it returns more than one - you need to copy more lines of bytes and retest until you get one result. I've had cases where it took dozens of lines. Hope that helps.

If it's the second - It's not as involved as it might seem. I'm over explaining here, but you can do this in just a few minutes.
My era was game genie, game shark can you please make a step by step tutorial video on how to cheat on Steam deck wemod isn't working nor cheat happens. I desperately need unlimited power for single player games.
So I'm a little confused so I modded time shift and another game and gave myself unlimited time then later when I went to go play again the value turned into question marks and I couldn't deactivate it like before and I tried manually searching the addresses and same result the values were question marks, do you have too keep doing the same process over and over each time and try and find the codes every time you start the game or can I still use the codes I found.....I have the addresses and values written down....do I have to start from scratch every time I start the game? It took me 20 mins for one game and 45 mins for the other and it would be a pain to have to do that every time you start the game, if you could help me out or give me a tip I would be very greatful thanks
due to shared instruction, you just modified how the emulator works and not how the game works, it is common for emulators

what if... i'm doing this with a PS2 emulator (PCSX2) and with my game when I try to make a script it works but when i restart the game, the instruction, Array of bytes and address (module size) changes? therefore my script stops working because it can't find the AOB. idk what to do. and the array of bytes is changing in a weird unpredictable way too so i can't just put "??" in place of some bytes

When you change a displayed value using a cheat engine in an emulated game, you are typically modifying the value that is being displayed on the screen, not the actual value the game uses to determine things like your health. This discrepancy occurs because the value displayed on the screen is often a representation of the actual game state, which is stored elsewhere in memory.

Dude been using cheat engine for a long time it’s not a virus. One of the best memory editors you can use if you don’t wanna use it that’s on you.
Also if you look up “is cheat engine a virus” you’ll see tons of people say it’s not because they know what’s a false positive and a real one. Even the creator of cheat engine himself explains this.

This is a good video but heads up for anyone trying this on an emulator that uses SHARED code for all it’s addresses it will not work. You will crash. You will need to do AOBSCAN or figure out a way to separate the shared code.

I tried this on yuzu and its always 0 results no matter what, does it not use big endian?
ok for yuzu all you have to do is open CE go to scan settings and check the 3rd box, regular byte scans work after that.

yeah, I've been trying to do that for over an hour now and while I'm seeing values all over the place, so it IS working to some extent, I'm searching way broader than I should have to, trying to figure out the money address, and I keep running out of addresses.
I've tried changing the type I'm searching to to "all" instead of a specific amount of bytes, and narrowing it down by "unknown initial value" and "unchanged value" followed by changing the value and "value increased" or "value decreased", and eventually I end up with 0 addresses.
I think there's just something about this that doesn't work for Ryujinx.
I've tried for many hours and can't get the health bar for dynasty warriors gudam 3, I take damage and decrease value scan, still can't pin point the health...please HELP!
Depending on the emu, it may not be a big endian value. Try 4 byte. Also, health bars are often floats, so try that also. If you need more help, come to the Discord and someone there will help.

Justin Presley In that case, it will be big endian. If you haven't added that type, it's built into CE now. Settings > Extra types - check all boxes

Justin Presley Does the health constantly refill? You can try doing unknown initial value, then changed or unchanged. That's the more reliable way to do it when you don't know how the values work. Also, in case it wasn't clear - you'd use 4 byte big endian or float big endian. :)

If it's offline, I imagine so, though I haven't tried personally.

Nice, but any cheat that's not native RAM/ROM(asm) address/patch is useless and bad practice. CE is good for searching through emulator memory, but figuring out the real native address after that is the only way it's worth the time.
I have several cheat tables that have worked for years without the need to update. Definitely not useless. I use static addresses whenever possible, but often times arriving at a static address for certain values is not consistently reliable. This is the case here. I find it to be more reliable to have CE find the address for me via aob. Also, less susceptible to emulator and game updates breaking the cheat. These are things you learn as you work with emulators. :)
This is so HARD. Im trying to cheat FFXIII on RPCS3, but the value for HP change in every battle. I think is impossible to cheat this game 😢😓

@@Postposterous Yes, I already configured my CE. But in every battle I have to redo the changes. I think is something with the game itself. And unfortnately CE is freezing the emulator while opened. I'll have to play it w/o cheats 😒. Im able to cheats Gils and items but not HP or ATB Bar
