I can never watch Abu Dhabi 2021 the same again. I used to watch and find it wholesome how Checo did a killer job of holding up Lewis and just seeing how the whole team was doing everything possible to dethrone Lewis and Mercedes. Now when I watch it, I'll be thinking about how Max wasn't willing to do 1/10 of what Checo did for him in Brazil 2022...

Not just Abu Dhabi. I’m a big Checo fan and one of the biggest moments that season was Russia. Max P9 Lewis P2 Checo P3 they pit max before Checo to give him the best jump up the standings and Checo the next. Then we see Lewis P1 Max P2 race finish that’s huge points. And then again this season at the start Spain Checo told he couldn’t attack max when max was slower and to stay behind for 5 laps so max could pass only for then straight after that Checo to dispose the same driver in a lap. The amount of team orders in 2021 where Checo was told to sacrifice his race to stay out and hold lewis up or to pit for fastest lap to take it off lewis is insane and showed how great of a support he is to max,. This and last season. It’s a Shame max couldn’t return the favour now max had wrapped up his championship

Second obviously won’t bring any tangible reward, but they’re in a multi national, damn near year long competition at the pinnacle of motor sports. Second in the championship would mean everything for the drivers and teams, especially for checo who’s had moderate success at any other team before. What Max did was wrong, Checo is one of the main reasons Max even won last year, so to even stand by Max is borderline tasteless, coming from a Redbull and Max fan myself.

Perez hasn't been a loyal teammate, just over 0.5 s a lap slower. He always was spared over that, but as soon he could match Verstappen for two races he started claiming to have a go at the WDC himself, fuelled by the British press in denial about drivers being significantly faster than the rest. People forget very fast, because he was put back in his place by Verstappen being is usual much faster on the track soon enough, but modest and loyal, no.

I have been a Max fan for 5 years now and what I saw yesterday, I cannot even describe in words the level of disappointment I felt. I am heartbroken for Checo and I definitely lost a lot of respect for Max.

Re-watching Abu Dhabi has always been really hard for me as I saw my favourite sport lose so much of its integrity for the sake of crowning a new champion, but now after watching what happened to Checo on Sunday and then going back to watch his defence against LH like an absolute beast is hauntingly poetic - the way you edited this video gave me chills. Max can enjoy his paper crown, because he is nothing without Perez - his defence in AD 21 will be bigger than any of Max's hollow titles, mark my words.
Checo has managed to become the single most important figure behind a championship in modern f1. We have witnessed history.

Checo cheated on his wife after monaco. Whoever made the call with las vegas bet rigging on red bull to not have soft tires on checo is the reason why he fell back to 7th. Checo was 1/5 cars on medium tires and the other 4 were out of the points.
I know quite a few Mexicans and if there is one common trait, most are very loyal people. He did a great job being a teammate and deserves so much more credit.

Senna once gave up a win for his teammate Gerhard Berger. Schumacher once he won the championship in 2001 i think gave up a win to Barrichello to thank him for giving up a win to Michael in Austria. Hamilton in Hungary 2017 asked his team to tell Bottas to let him by and try to catch the Ferrari's and if he couldn't he would give the place back. Hamilton was at the middle of a title fight and he was behind Vettel in points. Hamilton was unable to pass and he gave Bottas his position back. I guess what I want to say is that all these greats gave back to their wingmen.

I always thought that max was a brat but an amazing driver, this cemented that statement but I’m a fan of Lewis because he let bottas through after he couldnt pass Sebastian during the 2017 Hungarian Grand Prix, and there was even a championship on the line but still respected bottas for his contributions
And he apparently got schooled by Nikki Lauda for doing that and not prioritizing the championship. People love to shit talk how Bottas was treated by Lewis, but the fact is, they remain close friends to this day. That wouldn't be the case if Bottas wasn't treated well.
As much as ppl would love to believe it, Hamilton was never #1 by contract, neither vs Rosberg nor Bottas. Only when his teammates had no chance for the championship anymore did they have to help. Perez on the otherhand gets sacced in race 3(Portimao 2021) or 4 (Barcelona 2022) because little Max must become the overlord of F1. Thats RB for you. Same as with Schumacher, Alonso or Vettel at Ferrari, they have to be #1 before the season even starts to perform well knowing that there is no rival with the same car. Im sure Toto likes to see Hamilton win over Russell or Bottas or even Rosberg, but they dont actively sac or destroy their races for that unless they are hopelessly behind Lewis in the championship (like Russia 2018 for example)

This year I was thinking that I would rather someone besides Max to win next year cause he was dominating this season and I'd like to see tighter WDC fights, but now I don't want Max to win championship this year cause of how he treated Checo. If Red Bull dominates next year too, I wish Checo becomes the main driver and stop being on Max's shadow. -Meanwhile I also hope Ferrari finally awakens, with Charles and Carlos winning more races-

Earlier this season Sainz got the win when he got asked to hold up Lewis for Leclerc after the late SC in Silverstone. But instead of following orders he got full attack mode and took the win where Leclerc only got P4.
In the one hand I think that it was greedy from Max but if someone is to blame it is the team, they did not communicate clear. Have all the facts before you judge. They never should’ve asked max to full push and attack ALO & LEC but keep positions for the last 5 laps. Or they had to say that he had 4 laps to try otherwise swop the cars back (but they only told Checo), you can confirm that yourself by checking both onboard radios during lap 67-71. Asking it halfway lap 71 while in DRS of ALO (which they asked to attack) wasn’t a smart move knowing that they discussed it before. They could smell from 1000 miles this would going to happen. That’s what makes me sad because the team was in full harmony almost the whole season and now they acted very stressful.
Beside that it didn’t make any difference because it was just two points. Perez still has to finish in front of LEC to get P2.

It was clear as fuck that the reason he was let by was because he had better chances at catching Alonso. But when he didn’t, he was told to give the position back for the championship. And you can’t say it was due to late communication when max says he did it on purpose and would do it again. Like, wtf. Even if the communication *would* have been bad. Then he would have said that and not that it was fully on purpose that he did not let him by. I am beyond shocked that there are actually people fanboying so hard for max that they will construct anything to fit the picture of his flawless idol. Holy.
Also: 2 points CAN make a difference. Because the last points spots only have one point difference. *and* if both don’t finish the race, Leclerc wins because he has more overall wins then checo. There are not many scenarios in which it matters a lot, but there ARE scenarios. And Max, in his clear mind and with access to his full judgement decided to make it harder for his teammate on purpose. Even though the whole fucking team and his teammate basically breath to serve him. That right there is a god complex in the making. Mark my words.

I remember watching Rubens Barrichello leading in a Ferrari ahead of Schumacher, and everyone, including the commentators, saying that given that there was only a few laps left in the race, Rubens had it in the bag. Barrichello must have thought the same thing but then was told to let Schumacher pass him. It meant nothing for Schumacher. He had already won four of the last five races. Barrichello was way ahead and in fact, had started from pole position. It broke my heart to see what looked like a well earned win for Barrichello, taken from him when so little was at stake. I lost all respect not only for Schumacher, but Ferrari as well. It was just so petty.

Anyone bringing up the supposed Monaco incident - Checo has still helped Max out and been a team player many more times, even if you net of that one event. To continue to hold a grudge like that, irrespective of the whole past relationship, does really say everything.
