    Steam Deck is Struggling with Big Games. Should we Worry?
    www.pcgamesn.com/steam-deck/f...
    Two huge releases from the last month, Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Horizon Forbidden West, have failed Valve’s compatibility testing and have been branded ‘Unsupported’ for Steam Deck.
    This is by no means a call for panic, but it feels like the first stage in what is going to be a long and drawn-out need for a new generation of Steam Deck sooner rather than later.
    Not really the type of games I enjoy playing on the Deck anyway.
    Lately I’ve been playing a ton of stuff like FF7 Remake, Crisis Core, Super Woden GP
    Also, I have a PS5 and that’s just a better spot to play a game like Horizon
    Also, Dragons Dogma runs like shit on everything so it’s not an issue inherent to the Steam Deck
    Steam Deck Competitor is DoA
    venturebeat.com/games/suiplay...
    Mysten Labs announced that it is working with open operating system company Playtron to launch an open gaming handheld with multiple game stores, from Sui Web3 games to the Epic Games Store.
    PlaytronOS, which will be compatible with various hardware configurations. Playtron is building an ecosystem much like Android, the open mobile and PC operating system. It is an open operating system across multiple devices and multiple companies, said Kirt McMaster, CEO of Playtron, in an interview with GamesBeat.
    “We’re building a new gaming operating system right to open up the PC. Effectively, we’re attempting to extract the PC gaming ecosystem from Windows and recontextualize in our own operating system,” McMaster said. “That gives users the access to all of the stores, Steam, Epic Games Store, Gog, etc. But all in a single launcher. You can sign in with your Steam account. You can sign in with your Epic Games account. All your games will appear in a single launcher. They’ll work in a single operating system.”

    Enclave Remnants

    So sick of PC and consoles getting unfinished games. Why do we tolerate it? Would you buy a car if the brakes came a month later? No other product pulls that kinda crap. But gamers defend it. Why?

      Preach! I've been catching up on older games just because I know they're stable, cheaper and enjoyable. Also, why are we paying $70 for unfinished games at that? Something is definitely wrong.

    • @Pegaroo_
      @Pegaroo_ Před měsícem +5

      Part of the reason I don't buy games at launch. Wait a couple of months for them to sort out the code and for the game to go on sale.
      Maybe if we all stop buying these buggy messes of games at launch they might realise they need to finish the game before they put them on sale but if we keep buying them or worse pre ordering they'll keep doing what they are doing

    • @cadraf
      @cadraf Před měsícem +1

      True, i remember back in time where you would pay 40/50€ for a finished game and dlc would be free stuff. And how games are not optimize for nowadays consoles. Ps3 had 512mb of TOTAL RAM, and only 256 would be for gaming, and that shit would run massive games, yeah the apu was a hell of a apu but
      You gonna tell me we dont have the same capable apu to run good games? Developers and company are getting greedy. Thats why i only buy games after atleast 6 to 12 months and on sale. Games nowadays are not worth the full price. Look at switch games from their first party company, the exclusives, running on the low powered switch, There is no excuse.

    @LumberPanda Před měsícem +54

    It was always going to be the case. The Steam Deck is a 400USD handheld, its not "getting left behind" its "the laws of physics exist". If someone bought the SD and thought that it would be able to run 2024 AAA games with awful CPU optimization even on desktop-grade CPUs (consoles) then that is not the device's fault lol.

    • @kennypowers1945
      @kennypowers1945 Před měsícem +8

      Here’s the thing tho there are modern AAA games that run 720p to 800p 60fps like resident evil 8, halo infinite, re 2 remake, re 4 remake, cyber punk 2077 etc. if a new game can’t it’s the optimization of the devs that suck. It’s not the deck getting left behind, it’s devs getting lazy. Same argument goes for Xbox series s and lesser gpu cards

      @BrandonHolly-hv3lu Před 22 dny

      @JDabz96 most of the games on steams platform is unplayable on steam deck. At least rog ally can be docked with better wattage, resulting in amoother frame rates and gameplay over all. If i can barely play a game that came out years ago for like 2 more hours compared to playing the game perfectly for a little over an hour until i have to dock it and then it plays even better I'll get the rog ally. Ive had both actually until i sold them to get a pc. Sold the deck for well under market value. I had people literally trying to trade me steam decks for the rog ally with cash on top. The market speaks for itself.

    Playtron is a Linux fork from Fedora I believe. There is no such thing as a Windows fork. Microsoft would never allow modifications to Windows. What’s worse is they’re going to be banking on the work Valve has done to Linux gaming.

  • @friendlyperson9841

    Forbidden west runs okay on the steam deck if you adjust the settings. Just cap it at 30fps, set everything to low, textures to medium, turn of motion blur, set fsr2 to dynamic with 30fps as target. And thats it. It is playable. Obviously dosnt look as good as high settings but plays well enough to be enjoyable, even in fighting situations in the game.

    So I have had sort of an interesting experience/relationship with my SD. I am coming back to it after having fixed it with some updated bios that was never there available before (November) when my console screen was all black. Anyway. That was an exciting thing to discover and to get my handheld BACK basically. I'm trying my best these days to not bog down my 64gb deck and to play what can be played! I have been tinkered more than I've played an actual game on my deck (looking at you Deathloop).
    And this has been working out for the best! There has obviously been a massive improvement to the deck, and it happens month by month, uodate after update! I do realize that proton ge is something that is available and not even a official steam legwork, and yet those independent efforts are really helping to keep this console pushing it's potential.
    So personally, I'm stoked for what the deck CAN DO. And I'm feeling even more understanding of what it cant.
    Hi FI Rush, Doom, Death Stranding. Also- Emulation with hardly any tinkering required! All amazing reasons why I love this thing. But mainly, I own it for the steam games. Too many other decent handhelds that can handle ps2 and down (which is pretty much all i care about). N64, Dreamcast, ps1, pico 8, all platforms I love. Dreamcast and PS2 probably the most, then Wii, then N64 and so on. I recommend grabbing a homebrewed new 3ds xl for those 3ds games and dsi xl for your ds game needs. Something might top the original hardware in the near future, but for now those handhelds do phenomenal jobs like they were born to do. 💪
    To save some space (even mental space) for my deck i think ill do my best to play the oldest emulation stuff on something like original hardware or retroid pocket 2s. Trim ui smart pro looks like a fantastic option too for the budget friendly emulation crowd. Then the retroid pocket 4 pro, then the Odin 2. I want me an Odin 2!

    One thing I have liked is that kernel updates and driver updates to 24.1 yield some mild performance improvements, such improvements improved optimized shader routines for FSR2/3 and improved RT support. Control in particular has yielded noticeable improvements with RT on. still will burn your battery even if they ever get Control w/ RT at 40 fps. seems like the deck is more suited to mild RT stuf like shadows and Reflections. I expect with FSR 3.1 Returnal could perform very well, Xess 1.3 also is getting massive improvements.

    Exactly. These publications don't understand that the Steam Deck is a handheld PC and not a console... It's not like games that come out ONLY on Switch and can't run well. It's not built for every game to run well, games should be built to run well on it (and other older/lower end hardware). Developers for the most part aren't making games FOR the Steam Deck and that's hard to understand for a very console-centric news media.

    I think the gaming media doesn't get it, gamers like the Steam Deck and the Steam Deck isn't the only way we have to play games. Gamers are flexible, we may play a game in one box, and another in another box, perhaps another even on the cloud. The Steam Deck is part of an overall gaming space that's complimentary and not exclusionary.
    CZcams would have you believe there are console wars, and rivalries and people put all their eggs in one basket. But that's not the case in real life. Gamers largely feel no loyalty to any given platform, they just want to play games.

    What people do not seem to grasp is every AAA game that’s difficult to run on deck is also difficult on every other handheld needing lower resolutions and lower settings and often still not getting anywhere near 60fps. These are handhelds, if you complain about the latest graphics heavy games being difficult to run then you are just doing it all wrong. Go and discover emulation, go and look at the thousands of indie games that are often better than AAA games and leave the graphics showcases for the systems they are designed for which is absolutely not low end power restricted lethargic handhelds.

    Lol sorry to break it to you but you are not burning 700 calories in 1 hour of walking on a treadmill even on an incline. The machine may be telling you that, but that is absolutely not possible unless you were morbidly obese to begin with. A normal size person would have to run at around a 8-minute pace to burn 700 calories an hour. A brisk walk only burns about 40 calories per mile.

    It’s not necessarily the decks fault that new games are fucking horribly programmed, you can barely run stuff like dragons dogma on a top of the line desktop pc, so tbh it’s just not fair. If the game is properly made it’ll probably be fine. Look at lies of p, look at the Sony ports, and there’s plenty of others too. They all run great on deck.

    If you bought the Steam Deck to play current PC AAA games then you bought the wrong device. There's a reason why GPU's update every few years. Game engines are always evolving.
    That said I'm not sure why people get upset if there are people who want an updated Steam deck. YOU can keep your old Steam Deck while new people can benefit from the increased power. At this point unless you want to play older games there's no point buying one.
    All the deck OLED needed was USB4 support and people could have plugged in their own GPU's giving the deck a lot more power, but nope we'll have to wait for the next version now.
