- Steam Decks are cool, but they look kind of boring - just black plastic. No gamer RGB or fancy color choices. And sure, you could just put a sticker on, but thats not exactly the same is it? Well, JSAUX sponsored this video to show you their new transparent cover series - a complete case swap kit for the Steam Deck that completely changes the aesthetics and adds a bunch of neat features that could make your deck run a little cooler. But is this case swap a simple job, or a nightmare surgery that isn’t worth your time?

Please don't take this the wrong way at all, but it's refreshing to see someone make that many smaller but non lethal mistakes, it makes me feel actually more motivated to tackle this replacement myself seeing it's really not that easy to break anything if you're a bit careful. Thanks for the great video! Still can't believe we have fully modifiable handheld PC's now its so cool...
No worries! I wanted to be honest with y’all and show you how to avoid the mistakes I made
appreciate it we all make mistakes not hiding them makes you feel more human and makes this mod less intimidating i wouldve 100% upgraded the joysticks to hall effect ones while youre in there anyways @@JasonWitmerYT
@@JasonWitmerYT Jist got my Deck. The fact I can play pretty much any game all the way to 360/PS3 is insane to me. Love showing it off at work to my older coworkers 😊 I literally Will never buy another main
Brand consoles ever again. 😊
Great video. I was on the fence about getting this or just the back plate. I still am a bit leery, but knowing that the toughest parts are basically remove the screen and making sure all the stuff is secure; that really helps.
Glad I could help! Thanks for watching 🙏
Took me an hour was easy! Yall got this ❤
great vid. just bought the purple case!
Nice video. I'm hoping they eventually offer all the same colors they do for the back plates. The extra air holes over the fan are interesting. I'd like to see in depth testing to see how that changes the dynamics of the airflow. I wonder if it helps or hurts.
I think Gamers Nexus already tested it and the results were not good:
With the stock backplate the fan draws air through other components, that need cooling (like the SSD, VRMs or the RAM). With the JSAUX backplate, the fan now gets air directly, which results in higher temps of those other components.
@@xXYannuschXx CryoByte33 on his testings only noticed a 1 degree difference on the components between the jsaux and stock backplate, that sounds very neglectable for a boost in APU cooling performance.
Great vid 👏🏼... they look awesome but there's no way I would even attempt this 😕
Same.. not risking destroying my $500+ device. I’m too clumsy for this anyway.
Haven't watched fully yet but I'm getting a red transparent one this weekend, hopefully I can pull this off.
You got this 💪
Really impressed with these kits, they're definitely not going cheap. Am I the only one that doesn't have a hairdryer? Lol
Haha that’s why I said borrow one from your mom!
Literally me the moment he said hair dryer. "Wow the one thing I don't use or have.."
they need way more colors, would love a blue or red transparent case
The organization and spare parts are above and beyond. I feel like it’s possible…still scared though.
They just need to make the full shell blue and not just the backplate and I am doing this! Good video bro. Subbed.
Cheers! They just released an all white version, so maybe we get blue soon
@@JasonWitmerYT hopefully
I painted the shell in this video to blue recently myself if you want to check it out. It’s a recent video
I was going for this, but a screw in the motherboard wouldn't budge, I didn't want to risk ruining it, I tried the rubber band trick to no luck, and I don't have good pliers to manually unscrew it either. It was a bust for me. At least I was able to replace the face buttons, bumpers and triggers (but not the power and volume buttons. So I can just use a decal to cover the rest.
Were you using the screwdrivers provided? In my experience it is much better to use your own premium screwdrivers because cheaper ones can ruin the screws
Thanks for the vids! I seen you've used the jsaux as well as the extreme rate one, i was wondering how they compare and the differences? I've used extreme rate before for my ps4 controller so I know they're reputable, just trying to decide which one to buy
I’ve actually never used extreme rates shell, but I’ve been using the jsaux one since this video and it’s been great! Thanks for watching
Me, a bald man: a hair dryer?! God damn it!
I thought it was an easy process. Oh boy I was wrong. Not for me I don't want to kill my brand new deck. Black is good lol
Getting one with full translucent red 1t
@@Julian.padillaai want that one too
@@plant4170 its really nice got over 40 hours on it already
They have the better suction cup than extreme rate.
the one extreme rate give is a joke, its small and not place to push securely...
What temp was the heat gun when you could finally remove the screen? Great video!
Surprisingly high haha like a 7/10 on the heat scale
@@JasonWitmerYTthanks for the reply! Do you know the exact temperature?
i should of just gotten the back shell lol
"They included protection, but I'm American, so I'm just going to raw dog everything" LOL I would have choked if I was eating or drinking ATM.
I don't own a deck yet, but I've done similar mods in the past to several PSP's and DS's, and so long as you go slow, no one should have any issues(it can be fun like building a huge Lego project). The PSP was pretty modular, and the only issue there was the UMD drive door, as you have to apply pressure to get it in and out. And the DS had one wire that went under this cramped space, and that was a pain, as was the ribbon cable for the top screen, but overall, easy enough.
The Deck was actually designed with self repair in mind and while it has a ton of parts, the things provided here seem to make it super easy. I actually bought a Dbrand tear down skin for mine, and that still looks better to me than any of the clear cases do. But if I ever swap the screen for a better one(a company has one coming soon), then I'll probably swap the shell, as I'll have to go to bare bottom to swap the screen anyway at that point.
it’s like DIY ifixit
Raw dog, Everything 😂😂😂😂
Does the vent in top of the fans affect the circulation or the temps? Coz that's kinda suspicious design choice.
Looking at other peoples testing; cutting a hole there can really help your temps lower
In the UK we would call those rubber pads a membrane.
Giving a shot like this is so risky, no thank you !
Would this be easier to do this at the same time as upgrading the display?
Most definitely should do them at same time.
@@JasonWitmerYT am I wrong in thinking that the factory display could stay attached to the factory front plate if I did this?
i want to do this but im scared im gonna screw something up
I was wondering if I did not want to take the screen out couldnt i just buy a whole new screen?
You totally can! They actually sell an anti glare screen you can buy with it.
TAKE OUT YOUR SD CARD BEFORE TAKING OFF SHELL
how did you get the back off???
its just 8 screws haha
Subbed. The screen is the part that worries me the most and I won't have a heat gun for it...
Thanks! A blow dryer is more than enough!
i wish they would make they for the ally i would love to make my ally atomic purple
Are these compatible with the OLED ??
Unfortunately not 😔
6:20 I would call them membrane pads
I want to replace my original black steam deck shell with a black JSAUX shell.
Oh fk this.... Imma fk it up
I tried this myself, and was able to replace the shell. However, the screen would no longer display an image. I bought a new screen, had the same issue. I sent it in for repair, they replaced the screen for a third time, and the issue persisted. There's a small chance that if you disconnect the screen, the software will not be able to reconnect to the screen when you plug it back in. Replacing the shell on your Steam Deck is 100% NOT worth it. You can do everything right, and you could still end up with an irreparable Deck.
I'm glad I'm not the only one having this issue. I'm in the same boat. No bios, no HDMI over USB C, everything. The last thing I might be able to think og is doing HDMI over M.2, but that's it...
I love how all youtubers use tweezers for the buttons they have guides just drop them in
Looks better on camera because my fingers are too big
@@JasonWitmerYT nah smash them in I also have fat fingers apparently gotta make it look gritty next time make it gritty and tag me
I’ll do my best bro 😎
Rubber Pads, Silicon Pads, but it differs from where i live (Philippines)
No way. Not worth the risk. Looks cool though.
There is no way I'm doing this to my SD
1
I've destroyed electronics trying to do stuff like this. I'm gonna upgrade the the SSD but that's it. I can only see heartache in my future if I try this.
I'm thinking of just changing the shell and not the touch pads.😂😂😂😂😂😂😆😆😆😆
This doesn’t replace the touchpads actually so you’ll be fine!
In what world is this worth it lmaooo😂
Raw Dog
OOOF that's just not worth it to me IMO. too risky too much work!
I was thinking of spray painting my deck!
So basically if you want to screw up your steam deck, go ahead try this.
except extremerate already beat them to the punch like two months ago, and they have gold chrome, race car chameleon, wood, etc, plus they also have button swaps. even at least two other companies have started making nvme docks two for half the price and more usb ports.
I have a extremerate clear purple, haven't got around to changing it yet.
nope, no way I'm doing that.
What about the rog ally? I don't want to leave it on white which I know I like white but for me taking it with me on the go, I prefer black stuff when it is something I take with me cuz those would be the most used products and it will pick up nasty lint and would be visible on a white product.
Some companies have told me they are all working on making some ROG ally products 👀
Looks great, but that's way too much work to be worth it to me. Shame.
The extra fan vents will actually cause the deck to overheat btw, the housing is specifically designed to pull aid over the VRMs
s
lol way too risky smh
