Personally I never felt stressed or pressured to succeed in school, I just went with the flow, didn't really think about anything, finished school and life went on.
So yeah I've never personally been able to grasp the idea of the stress, effort or even caring at all about graduating.

You counted every rival fight against May as a "major battle" but not the major battle against Wally at the end of Victory Road?
So if you count the Aqua Admins as important battles the starters would have changed places (Aqua Admin at Weather Institute and Aqua Hideout)

In pokemon Scarlet/Violet,Before jumping into the paldea crater,Arven says the professor is railroading them. In the game,there's a group of 4 kids, Arven,Penny,Nemona and the player. If we travel back to Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue,checking the TV in your room you're shown a description of 4 kids exploring railroad tracks, which is referencing to the film "Stand By Me". The characters in the film are searching for a dead body. Turo/Sada is a dead professor turned into an AI.
