The brooches unsaid were fob are not fobs. The little round hook would have had a pin attached for extra safety for the brooch to be attached to clothing so as to not loose the brooch. You find that in brooches made with gold and precious metals. The 2 brooches u said were fob brooches were never fobs for watch chains, they were always brooches. Hope this helps. Also queen Victoria vacationed in Scotland in Balmoral castle, that is were the love of Victorian pebble jewellery was made popular as she wore this type of jewellery made from the semi precious stones found there! Cheers! Lovely pieces!
I always believe that that extra little round thing was so we could make it into a pendant

This video was great. Understanding details are becoming much clearer to me.
Thank you Judy! ❤️
Well done!
Thank you Carol❤️
Beautiful collection, I just wish toy had talked about the gem stones, cut faceted glass or whatever the stones that were used
If the piece is sterling or of higher gold content 15 kt and above, the stone more than likely is either semi precious or precious.
Great video! I like the way you used repetition of multiple brooches from the same Era. Thank you!
Thank you so much Cena! I am happy you enjoyed it!😊❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for a good and informative video.
The brooch at 17:39 might be a Swedish hallmarked brooch. I am from Sweden so I recognised the markings. If it is Z8 it is made the year 1950, if Z3 it is 1830. Claearly has the "kattfot" and the "S" for sedish hallmarked Silver. Nice if you could research this. Makers mark seems to be GK, and if 1950 (Z8) it is from Kaplan.
❤️❤️❤️❤️ thank you 😊
Nice video 👍
Thank you!❤️❤️❤️❤️
That's what I say too.. Art nouveau is flowy european style fairies and art DECO is square and symetrical bc "deco" has 4 letters and a square has 4 sides Lol.. Things like that really helped me getting started =)
Lovely video thank you so much for taking the time to make it.

Thank you very much for sharing your collection. I’ve studied and collected Victorian & Scottish brooches in Scotland. I love them all, but my favorite in your collection is the pinchbeck knot with garnet stones. Shame your carnelian stone was cracked bc it’s a beautiful one too.
At the 8m20s mark , you indicated that the ring on the bottom of the brooch was to attach to a pocket watch. However, we were taught that these rings at the bottom were generally used to attach safety chains to clothing to avoid loss. In fact, I have a similar knot brooch in pinchbeck (not lucky as you to have it in gold) with a safety chain still attached at the bottom ring. So, were these rings only used for watch fob only? Thank you again for your time.
I believe you are indeed correct and that it was most likely used for converting into a pendant. I think the ring at the bottom could have been used for both safety chains and/ or watches judging by information from one of my books. Thank you so much for commenting and sharing your knowledge with me❤️ excellent!
@@VintageVariety That makes sense, so thank you very much for responding. I really enjoyed your collection and it’s nice to find someone who also loves older brooches.
I love wearing my antique pieces almost everyday, but I wear those without safety chains only at home bc I’m afraid I’d lose them. Do you wear all of your older pieces? Have you lost any pieces that you really loved?
Yes I do enjoy wearing all of my pieces. I have lost a couple unfortunately
the one at 9:10 or so..is it a locket of some sort..or does the front circle thing unscrew..was wondering if its a perfume locket..or maybe a piece of hair in it?? its lovely
It looks as though it would from the video but it doesn’t open.
I have an old cameo brooch with the C clasp. It's a black one. What would the material of the cameo be carved from possibly?
Cameos can be carved out of many different materials; shell, lava rock, bog oak, jet, French jet(black glass),carnelian,….just to name a few. They can also be molded out of plastic. Celluloid ( one of the early plastics)for example was used in many old/ antique pieces.
5:54 ....This brooch can be repaired at a jeweler it does have a gold content and would greatly increase the value.
That’s a excellent idea Gloria! I do have a few pieces I should probably take in for repair ❤️❤️❤️
This video would be easier to watch if you had a phone stand. The slight, constant motion is a little bothersome and almost makes me dizzy. That being said, I appreciate your knowledge and you sharing it with us.
You do have a good point. That video was my first attempt at making and editing videos. It was quite a learning process. 😊 thank you.
@@VintageVariety I understand. I subscribed and look forward to watching more. 🙂
@deanna8217 thank you!😊
I just found you and subscribe . How do you clean your silver that’s has almost turned black?
For jewelry I use a silver cleaning cloth. Believe it or not a regular pencil eraser works also:) @Anna King thank you for subscribing ❤️
Where did you get most of your brooches? They are lovely,
@Molly Fien antique stores sometimes have good deals, I got quite a few that way by offering to buy the lot at a store that was closing for a good price. Flea markets, estate sales, thrift stores, and yard sales. Hope this helps! ❤️
The Antique pins seem to be in the center of the jewel rather than yoday where they usually are near the top.
Hi Wanda! Thank you for watching. ❤️❤️❤️
@@VintageVariety I really got a lot out of the three videos I watched! I even bought the Cameo book. My problem is that I am interested in real Victorian and Edwardian cameos rather than Vintage. I’m 76 and “Vintage just doesn’t impress me since it is basically what I grew up with. I’ll be watching a lot now.
@@reginaromsey I understand completely. I’m in my fifties and my mothers in her eighties. I know a lot of the vintage items I see nowadays are items I grew up with. I do collect Victorian, Edwardian, and Deco pieces also. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
What is the piece with the two birds connected with a chain called? I inherited some very old brooches, but with them was a piece that that resembled the birds, but made with cut blue glass, under each end piece is a little clamp clasp. It's the same length as your bird piece, but I have no idea what it's for. It belonged to my great-great aunt, so it's very old. She lived from 1895-1987, so I'm not sure how old it is. I thought that you might have an idea what it is. Hope you can help, thanks.
It’s a chatelaine brooch not an actual chatelaine but a style of brooch called the same for its style. It’s from the mid 1930’s. Hope that is a help:)
@@VintageVariety Thank you 😊
I thought an intaglio was carved into the piece where a cameo is carved on the top?
❤️❤️❤️
Are the brooches you say that were on watch chains not dual purpose and the ring used for putting a chain to hang around your neck.?
@Dorset Dolly you have a excellent point there! They certainly could have been! Excellent! Thank you❤️
On the Antiques roadshow there’s sometime jewellery pieces that are multi purpose, very often pieces with precious stones. The victorians were ingenious in many ways.
@Dorset Dolly I love that show Dolly! Love your comments. That’s what my channel is about sharing information and I am so happy you commented to share!
That is what I have always believed as well
I have a R. DeRosa brooch could you give me some information on it
Ralph DeRosa? I could certainly try if you would like to send a photo ❤️
Thank you for sharing your accurate knowledge and your wonderful collection :) maybe you would be interested in selling your garnet brooch? Or you can suggest me where to look for a similar one ? Thank you so much!!;)
Thank you for watching❤️ I would suggest antique stores and perhaps eBay. Sometimes you can find them on eBay but make sure you look at the sellers reviews and feedback 🙂

I have a brooch that says Australia and other some other words I can't make out. When I used Google lens I can't find anything:( I need help
Australia or Austria? Often when google lens doesn’t show anything, I search for similar items on the web. I’ll type in key description words like; vintage, filigree, brooch, Austria. Then I will click to images to see if images of anything similar pop up. Hope this helps!❤️❤️❤️
@@VintageVariety thank you so much for your response I appreciate you for that. I'm almost certain it say Australia and something else. I found it in a goodwill blue box along with a weiss Christmas brooch. I have no idea about them but they are beautiful I looked on Google with no luck but I will continue to search
Do you sell any of your broaches ?
Hello Clint and thank you for watching. I have sold a few in the past but no recently. The antique brooches I hope to one day pass on to my children. 😊❤️
I loved brooches long before Michelle OBAMA brought them back.
My Grandmother and aunts had beautiful brooches and hat pins.
unfortunately, many were sold, but I have a couple and wear them, which keeps my Grandmother and aunts close to my heart.
I also love cameo and had inherited several, which were stolen.
I will never get any of those back, but ,I am always looking Pawn shops or thrift stores and at flea markets yard sales and auction or estate sales.
There is something special about brooches and I dearly love the ones worn on coats, especially winter wool.
I never learned if there is a way to.smooth out the scratches on the glass or cameo.
Any help?
@Lillian Willams I love wearing them too! There is no way of smoothing the scratches that I know of. I have a few that are scratched also.
To bad they didn’t etch the dates when they make them back then
I agree! It would have made life easier for many collectors not to mention all the time it would have saved researching the pieces.❤️❤️❤️
Have you seen any opera cloak brooches?
No I’ve not but I imagine they would be quite interesting. 🥰
@@VintageVariety ...It is similar in appearance to a medium size brooch, but twice the size. Found it in a container with buttons late 1800's.
That is a awesome find!!!!

Sure Joy! My email is in the about section on my channel. I will certainly try to help ❤️
