- The idea of a smartphone built just for gamers is not a new one (recall my throwback video featuring the Nokia NGage from 2003). For PC gaming Goliath Razer, updating that idea for 2017 means blending bold design -like a special 120Hz screen and loud speakers- with uncharacteristic restraint (there’s no manufacturer software skin aside from Nova Launcher) and a spec sheet that more than makes up for the lack of Chroma LEDs. Looks aside, a “Nextbit Robin 2” this is not.
But to hear Razer tell it, this isn’t a phone for hardcore gaming. The company isn’t launching a special catalog of titles or even the long-rumored PC-to-phone streaming service. Rather than being a gaming phone, this a “phone for gamers” … and that distinction is an important one to keep in mind if you’re considering pre-ordering one of these.

Honestly, 699 for that hardware is surprisingly cheap for a Razer product. I expected it to cost around 900 at least.

Ya it's great you will learn to pick the phone up with your phone on the power button and it unlocks instantly. Would much rather have this then an in screen sensor. Wish more companies would do this like Samsung and their fingerprint scanner placement

For a gaming phone or phone for gamers with a lot of games that take up loads of storage and games are often not movable to SD card a 128 GB edition would really have been nice

Damn, aside from the lack of a headphone jack this phone is as good as you can possibly get, the move to a higher framerate display is fantastic, the price is fantastic considering they are going above and beyond, since it is way cheaper than the Pixel 2 XL, Note 8 or LG V30 while offering a set of features not found elsewhere

Considering no phone has released with the latest version of Android before the latest Google phones update to the latest version of Android(stable).
I bought a GIGABYTE AERO 15X as my daily laptop. Casual gamer here. But I wanted a laptop with really good performance that wasn't blasted with red dragons and would look good in a business meeting. THIS PHONE IS EXACTLY THAT. Stealthy Beast. Even if you never use it for gaming, it's a clean stock android phone with beast specs for us power users out there.
It's amazing that we need to go "gamer-y" just to get above average performance from our tech these days.

I'd like to see them work on a controller for the phone, and have custom software that let's you map your control for any game. That would be a game changer.

It's not "greed." It's a phone specifically built to run high-performance games, which tend to carry large file sizes along with them. Including 128GB or 256GB of storage would seem to have been a logical step.

I've only heard a little about razer, but this phone was perfect until I read the "no headphonejack" part of it. I would have taken a battery with 500mah less if they included it, but alas, they did not.

Unloackable bootloader, dat performance, nova launcher prime pre installed! Damn, this was master class from Razer. My only gripe is that ugly thick bezels and lack of a jack!

TheDark Knut it's not as if those bezels aren't serving any purpose, the front facing speakers is a major selling point to the phone and is far better for gaming, listening to music in the shower, watching movies etc then let's say a phone with awfully slim bezels and one lousy mono speaker at the bottom that's easily muffled up. If I would have known about this razor phone I would have strongly considered it (if it's available in the U.S) before getting my pixel 2 XL which I'm also satisfied with btw.
I've been saying it for years to a phone company should have Nova Launcher pre-installed. I'm glad razor decided to do this. I think I'm going to pick this up instead of the pixel 2.

8GB of RAM don't mean a lot of shit. I have the OnePlus 5 (SD835/ 8GB RAM) and Xiaomi Mi note 2 (SD821 / 6GB RAM). Both run smoothly with same apps installed.
Im surprised more people are not talking about the finger print scanner on the side button. I think thats a good alternative place to put it when space is limited (cough cough samsung).

For PC to Phone game streaming, you can just use the 'Moonlight' app. It makes your phone think it's an nVidia Shield so you can stream Steam games with GeForce Experience.
I honestly can't say I agree with any of the negatives. More flair? this is a phone you'll carry everywhere, one that'll be expensive to upgrade so you're probably stuck with it. I don't think it should be too bold a statement. to me this phone looks amazing, only drawback is that I'd prefer better screen real estate and OLED. But goddamn, I love that complete rectangular design, it's what sony did right when they tried to do smartphones.

I just don't get this whole thing at all. If you'll spend 700 bucks on a phone, why not buy a pair of $150 Bluetooth buds. Try the jaybird x3's for $120 on amazon right now. I had the x2's for a couple years until I lost them and they were awesome, once you go wireless you'll be wondering why on earth anyone would want a wire between their face and their phone. The only thing I am disappointed with is no wireless charging.

I've noticed that most phone gaming is done by people who are still in school.
To me it also depends how hot the phone gets. Surprised his review didn't mention the square corners - thought that would be unpleasant to hold. I do find he is getting a good assortment of sponsors.

How is it innovative at all? It's a normal phone with a high refresh rate, the iPad Pros already have that tech so it's not like it's new in and of itself. I give it it credit for being the first phone to have the refresh rate, but that's it as far as innovation goes.
The IPad Pro doesn't use it all the time like the razer phone does, so it's actually better in this razer device.
Then they would have to raise the price. Considering it does take SD cards, I rather they spend the 128gb money on waterproofing.

Met Dee it's not a big deal considering it comes with a huge 4000mah battery with quick charge 4.0 and a dongle with a built-in DAC.

It might not all things considered. People are still willing to buy phones with no headphone jack. They have a fingerprint scanner. Through my screen at least that front panel does look good as far as colors anyway. I don't care about bezels if they are housing good speakers. I'm still a fan of front speakers. Expandable storage is good even though you only get 64 gigs. Wireless charging is borderline useless. The struggle is going to be convincing anyone its worth 700 dollars. And build quality will be called into question. Otherwise the matte black look is pretty nice. I don't care about having a glass back on my phone. The hipster crowd will like that it isn't samsung, apple, or google.

I'm quite impressed actually. Phones with a serious front stereo speakers are my cup of tea. Design could use a bit of refining but that block shape might help it stands out, it does need more green though

you can't see it in other videos - but because MrMobile's videos are 60fps, we are actually getting a rough idea of how smooth the 120hz is, it's crazy how smooth that is!
I loved my Robin and this is for sure what the boys at Nextbit had in mind for the 2. I actually would love to get this phone.
