- Here's a commercial for the Fireflyer candy and "flying toy" by Sunmark. For the price of a candy bar.
I remember this candy/toy. I also remember being underwhelmed with it. Maybe I was too young to know how to make the thing "fly" - just tossing it didn't impress me.
"Simulated flight"
This aired on local Chicago TV on September 10th 1979 during the 3:30pm to 4:00pm timeframe.
About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:
The MCCTv (FuzzyMemoriesTV) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s to early 80s, mostly) recorded off of TV (in Chicago or other cities now too); things which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. If you have any old 1970s videotapes recorded off of TV please email: tapes@fuzzy.tv Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical preservation. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to digital, please e-mail tapes@fuzzy.tv Thank you for your help! - Zábava
...and about as aerodynamic AS a candy bar. In fact, as I recall, I was able to chuck a goddamn Snickers bar further and more accurately toward the back of a kid's head than I could with my depleted Fireflyer.
That tape crease at the end timed well and really adds to the nostalgia.
I was 7 in 1979 and that toy/candy would have interested me (especially the candy because I was a candy addict).
very magic and nostalgic ❤❤❤
I remember these from childhood but do not recall ever seeing a commercial. I also could never understand how to make them fly afterwards. It wasn’t like a frisbee, you were supposed to launch one half using the other somehow with this little tab. Never got it. 😆
Same here - maybe I never read the instructions. 😄
I’m pretty sure those got banned at my school pretty quickly. Thanks for the memories!
That must have been pretty cool in the late 1970's.
Not really.
I had one of those until a recent junk purge. Definitely a learning curve involved to make it fly any distance but it was definitely doable. Did NOT have one in my 70s or 80s
childhood years. Yet another example of how plastic could bring 15 seconds of satisfaction before sentencing our children to environmental doom
Is this dude a young Vic Dibitetto? Looks like him.
You know the candy must be great when the ad focuses on the packaging. What kind of candy even is it?
Looks like the cheap "tart n tiny" candy that comes with the cheapest of bad candy dispenser toys. Yuck.
LOL who is this comic?
He looks like a younger Vic Dibitetto.
