- Today we take a look at the Antlion Kimura, the same company that made the famous modmic. The Kimura is a boom mic, that you can attach to your favorite IEMs, to turn them into a great gaming headset

In my opinion instead of buying their iem just get a $60-80 iem and get the cable with a mic separately
Yep, that's pretty much my conclusion too
@@sidesaladaudio yea this is the same for the TRN Mars too (another gaming iem but it’s $60) tunings not very good on anything gaming related really
Wonderful idea yet bad execution.
And these guys have a fair amount of presence in the market.
I was expecting more to he honest.
Celest wyvern pro comes with a 2 pin boom mic for $29, would be an interesting comparison.
I might check it out. Thanks
i have fit issues with the cable, its like its too heavy and the right iem keeps falling out of my ear due to the weight 😔
Oh no. I guess there is still a lot of variation in fit for different ears.
Which iem target curve do you like?
I'm experimenting a bit right now. From some research, and comparing with 5128, it appears that 711 couplers have a bit of a flaw when measuring IEMs, so they over represent the measurments below 1khz. So if you were looking for a flat bass and low mids response similar to a headphone, you actually have to boost the IEM target a bit in those lower frequencies to make them match. The new IEF 2023 target, along with the 5128 Delta targets on squiglink try to achieve this.
Harman is also currently looking into reworking their IEM target as they are now cross comparing with the 5128, and likely seeing a similar result
Is that the head you measure headphones on?
No. That's why there's a caption on that image that says it's just for experimental use, and it's not the fixture I measure my headphones with. Mannequin heads have a lot more variation with seal and coupling. even though things like Kemar or B&K are Mannequin heads, those are at least standardized.
The rig I use for measuring is more similar to a 45ca, with flat "cheek" plates, with the pinna and ear simulator for a more consistent seal and coupling
Good looking shells and interesting cable wasted by a mediocre sounding IEM...
