    Excellent. Still waiting on mine. Got the Anbernic RG28XX right away. It's nice, but really wanted an analog stick on it and bigger controls.

      @RetroHandheldGuides  Před 3 měsíci +3

      When comparing the two devices, the Miyoo A30 has much better controls but the rg28xx has better performance.

      The 28xx also has more cfw options as well @@RetroHandheldGuides

    Neat tips for getting every ounce of playability for the N64

    N64 is running really good. Great video dude!

      Very good ? Did you have a look at the framerates and listen to audio ? To me that is very bad. Almost nothing runs faster than 30fps and for many games, 15fps. That's ridiculous especially provided the core options and the lower res. Plus it does heat for such results !

    • @chrisw8069
      @chrisw8069 Před 4 měsíci +3

      Your assuming n64 games actually ran at 30FPS many did not.

    • @pierre1509
      @pierre1509 Před 4 měsíci

      @@chrisw8069 I don't assume. I watch the video. Plus, do the games run with 2x resolution or is it 320p ?

    • @chrisw8069
      @chrisw8069 Před 4 měsíci +2

      ugh. N64 has a lot of games natively that don't run at 30FPS. Mario 64 and Zelda are two examples of this.

    • @pierre1509
      @pierre1509 Před 4 měsíci

      @@chrisw8069 Yep ! OOT is like 20 "fps", but interlaced properly so as to be smooth nevertheless. On a LCD to get similar feel of smoothness, you need more than the A30 is capable of. You need to dig the interlaced stuff and understand how "fps" is not the best metric for CRT screens.
      Plus many games are natively rendered at a faster speed that the A30 produces. I would qualify N64 on this device as slideshows when you want full 480p resolution.

    Seems to run everything there as well as my Anbernic RG351P, which is fine with me. The A30 seems to run Banjo-Kazooie better than the RG351P. I have trouble with some of the racing games too, but I fixed most of those issues by testing with the other 9 variants of emulator/plugin combos to improve performace on particular games, so maybe that can fix issues like those, if there are several choices with emulators/plugins.

    • @RetroHandheldGuides
      @RetroHandheldGuides  Před 4 měsíci

      Unfortunately there are no other emulator cores or GFX plugins available on the Miyoo a30.
      That's why I'm impressed that it works as well as it does but also hopeful that it can get much better with updates to add more emulator cores

    Thank you very much fo the video.
    The black graphics in 4:08 may be caused because of disabling the frame buffer.

    I'm glad to see some n64 working well. Hate that damn stick though. Bought one just to see if I can cut it and replace it with a taller and modular one.

  • @viruscure4677
    @viruscure4677 Před 4 měsíci +1

    They could hit out of the park with a t618 chip to ensure good fps performance for all retro consoles or at least the ones that really mattered.....
    I would have bought one myself even tho i own an rp4 pro....

    Very helpful video! F-Zero was at the top of my list so I'm glad to see it works well.
    Do you know if some of these emulator issues might get updated in the future with patches? I'm new to the scene so I don't know if they continue to update the emulators after release

    • @RetroHandheldGuides
      @RetroHandheldGuides  Před 3 měsíci +1

      If we are lucky, a community dev decides to create a custom firmware which occasionally brings updated or new emulators to the device.
      N64 emulators for Linux based devices like this one haven't been updated in a while but there are other emulators for N64 which could be ported to the device which might help some of the games run better.
      I believe it is possible for this device to get some custom firmware in the future which will improve N64 emulation a little. Don't expect that it will allow every N64 game to run but it might help some

      The default setup that was provided by Miyoo is unfortunately not optimized.
      I would recommend installing the RA30 community configuration linked in the description of the Miyoo A30 PSP video for better performance.
      Using the RA30 build I didn't have any issues with the GBA games I tested

      If you hold down the r2 button, the ABXY buttons act as the C buttons. This is configured by default in the emulator

      Probably just the way I light my studio. The screen is definitely dimmer than most other screens on other devices but not unusable
