The third generation of Renault's huge Master van, launched in 2010, was tasked with living up to its name by lording it over LCV rivals in the large van sector. From launch, the headlines looked as promising as this LCV's more assertive styling. Front wheel drive versions were more affordable to buy and run, while rear wheel drive models could handle much heavier loads. As a result, this Renault proved able to handle tough competition in the large van sector far more easily. But does it make sense as a used buy?
    History
The Master has been around in one guise or another since 1980, with that first generation model lasting for 17 years. Its 1997 replacement stuck around for a mere 13 years until the third generation Master appeared in 2010, continuing to share its design and all its engineering with two key segment competitors, Vauxhall's Movano and the Nissan NV400. All three of these LCVs were substantially upgraded in 2019, but it's the pre-facelift MK3 model we're going to look at here.
Packing up a Master is no small task, given loading capacities of anywhere between 8 and 18m3 in standard van models. And the torquey 2.3-litre dCi engine can haul big weights too - up to 4.5-tonnes, if you're really piling on the pounds. This diesel unit was used throughout the 2010-2019 period, but in 2018 an all-electric Z.E. version was added to the range.

I am about to buy my third one. had a 2005 for 5 years , Have had a 2010 from new for 14 years and done 220k on the same engine which has just blown . I have not had any major problems except for a clutch at 140k . It has no rust unlike my sons newer Transit . I am a very satisfied customer who is just about to get another one

Not in Australia, no parts are held in stock so you have to wait from France for delivery which takes weeks. Parts for known repeating failures. Not happy

Avoid Renault everything at any cost, they're rubbish. So I bought a Nissan NV400 instead, to then later find it's a Renault badged as a Nissan.
So, new oil filter housing needed, side door creeps open slightly for the dash to keep beeping, burnt out fuel pump, gear box packed in, reverse switch replaced, clutch cylinder on pedal replaced, EPS fault error to sort, emissions fault error to sort, and a whole raft of niggly things over the years.
My next van, I'll be studying all the components to make sure it's not Renault.

My mate works at nissan says they only ever get as blue issues but nothing else really and from his mechanic eyes the Renault's get the nicer parts over the nissan so everyone is telling me different stories haha

@@drawnbody51 64 and 114k milage. Wish I didn't buy the heap of crap. Avoid Renault.
Over 20 years ago, I worked at a place that had a garage. Every mechanic from every dealership that worked there said, "AVOID everything French and Italian". Hence why I went for Nissan. But I got stung. Renault are shit, complete and utter shit.

@@drawnbody51 Good luck, you will NEED it. If your mate is in a dealership, it's because people are taking their knackered French and Italian vans to back street garages, as opposed to getting their pants pulled down at dealerships
And when you get your French van, the lol's will soon stop.

So many different stories I wonder why some people get such bad ones surely quality control can't be that inconsistent.
I've heard amazing things about sprinter/ crafter but also the worst of the worst so I don't know what van to get.
Also what do you have / would you have now?
