  • After over a year of planning, i finally bought a new van!
What i bought is a 2014 Renault Master 2.3 front wheel drive.
The reason for the new van is because our current 2011 Fiat Ducato was only designed for myself, the wife and the dog. A couple of years after the build, a pet human came along and so a redesign is required.
I thought about stripping the Fiat and reuilding with a different layout but decided it was better financially to sell it and build new so here we are!

I have the Movano version which I built about 3 yrs ago and I have just bought the Renault Master XLWB which I will be converting shortly. I get approx 30mpg from the movano drive is great been all over the country in it they make great campers. I fitted a window in the sliding door and the next panel along on the drivers side I have a small opener high up at the rear which is where the fixed bed is also a sliding window next to the drivers door which is where our kitchen is be interested in your conversion so will sub to the channel.

I noticed that your old van had windows all round. Just wondered what your thoughts were on the pro's and cons of doing a camper with windows like this. I'm about to get an L1 H1 Renault Master, ex motability WAV with factory tinted windows all round for my first campervan build.
Also I'd love to know about the satnav you mention .

I think it depends what you want the interior of the van to feel like. Our first van (LDV Convoy) had just the one window in the sliding door which made the van really cosy feeling but also quite dark during the day if you didn't have the rear doors open. The Ducato with all the windows in is much lighter and feels bigger than it is with all the glass but, it can't be as well insulated so temperature control is a little more difficult. As an example, in the LDV we ran the heater for 25 - 30 minutes in sub zero temperatures and the heater then stayed off all night. The Ducato we had to leave the heater running on low at night to stop temperatures reaching single figures.

@@Markscampers Thanks for that. I thought it might be possible to use insulated panels for when it's cold.
The van has a Webasto night heater and an Autoclima 12v aircon in the rear, which I thought would be useful as the windows don't open.

Hi Mark, I'm currently looking to get rid of my 2011 Peugeot Boxer at the end of this year and replace it with a Master, so I'll be following your channel with great interest and probably nick some of your ideas. :) Hope you don't mind me asking, did you sell your Fiat privately or trade it in against the master?
    Cheers,
    Geo

Hi Geo, I haven't actually sold it yet as there are still a couple of jobs left to do but will be selling it privately
